I have a satin silver and was going to get a black, but after reading the
threads about some people having problems, I got another silver. I don't doubt the colored coating is very durable, but I imagine mine are going to get scuffed up at some point and the only thing that will show on the silver is a scuff on the clear coating. I'm covering it anyway.
I don't like any of the J-Wrap designs, so I made my own based on a pattern I found online. I then bought a clear J-Wrap to compare with the one I made and it was almost perfect (yipee!). The coating on the sliver holds up fine with medium tack adhesive. I've been wrapping it and rewrapping it for days, trying to find just the right look.
ETA: By the way, the clear J-Wrap is thinner than I thought it would be. It's the same material as clear vinyl shelf liner. The shelf liner comes in temporary and permanent, I suggest temporary (permanent would be removable, but a hassle). I bought a 12 inch by 36 foot roll for under $8.00 at Walmart.
