Some of you may have noticed ECF is doing housekeeping. In the case of model/device specific forums where there is also a vendor forum, the device specific forums are being closed in about a week. And yup - we do have one of those device forums, but it doesn't see hardly any use to begin with. It's this one here: REO (All Models)

A sticky has been put up there by ECF administration announcing that closure if you care to read it. That forum will be closed and moved to the archives. Doesn't seem like it will impact us much because, like I already said, it hardly gets used. And no one has commented on the sticky announcing it's closure. (Can't say the same for other device forums where ECF'ers are practically going over a cliff on this news for some reason.) I didn't even realize it was there until a post came up in the activity stream today.

No surprises. That's all. In effect, it's redundant. All ECF is asking is for people using the device specific forum to please skootch over to the vendor forum - and that's where we all hang out already in Reoville.

May not be the one I'm thinking about. The one I see is organizing committees, staging protests, going social, and stuff like that. Kinda like their own tea party. I tried to suggest, you know, why not just post in their vendor forum, but they ain't having it. Weird.

When I saw "that one" I freaked for a moment and ran right back here, pleasantly surprised (surprised is the wrong word) to see us all chattin' away in Rob's Place to begin with. Phew!

I don't know when that Reo device specific forum got started, but it has a grand total of five pages of posts in it. Didn't even know it was there.

That makes me so very happy!!!

Our own REO Supplier Associate and our REO maker can not go to that section and post.

It has been the wonderful Reonauts in this forum that go there and answer questions and ask the inquiring minds to visit us here.

Many times people have posted with questions that would get tons of answers on a thread in here. There they just do not get the traffic.

YaY! I say close it the sooner the better!!!

I didn't even know about that place until like two weeks ago. Seemed like someone could of asked a question and it would potentially sit there for a hot minute. People should be able to search Reo on ECF, and this vendor forum should be the obvious place to find things out about it.

Here you get the straight dope ASAP; sometimes even from the ModFather himself when he's not busy.

Closing that other place down makes perfect sense. ECF is over-run with sub-forums... it's to a point where any new user doesn't know where to ask a question. If they ask a question in what they think is the proper sub-forum, it may never even get seen.

Also, if ECF is restructuring: Howz about changing "GENERAL E-SMOKING" to "GENERAL-VAPING?"

I'm rambling now, I think I'll stop!! :D

I think the reaction of other device-specific subs is because they don't have the connection to the supplier that we do. We love our's, they do not. Combining creator and user in one channel is part of what makes us... us. The supplier IS the device, and vice-versa.

We're stronger for it.

I know I'm well chuffed every time the 'pine likes a post of mine, and I hang on every word he offers in his. It makes my day. How many users of other devices say that?

I did subscribe to that section so I could see when there was a new post. I tried my best to check it every time I went to my settings.

I was always so happy to see other Reonauts respond also.

Excellent post….I had no idea there was a forum on ECF where it felt familish until I jumped off the roof and landed here…That may sound silly because I may never meet most of you but I enjoy learning and laughing here when time allows. I blame it all of course on Rob and his magic dust. My wife walked in my man/room today and asked if Rob had sent me anything else….I laughed and said WELL YES and he will not stop no matter how many times I beg. He takes my money and ships me things every few days.

I am glad to be part of ReoVille.

You know, I didn't think about that until you mentioned it, that a supplier cannot reply to technical or customer service questions in the model specific forums. On that level for devices like Reo and "other" it makes no sense to have model specific forums. We get to sit here fat and happy because Rob doesn't mind the social chatter on top of all the technical stuff. Complete package in one place. But I'm under the impression that some suppliers aren't as "tolerant" about that and that's where all the kafuffle is coming from. It's hard to relate to because it's such a non issue here.

I think at the time, that area served two purposes....one to give folks a place to talk about devices whose builders aren't on ecf and second, give folks a place to talk freely if they feel like they can't do so in a supplier's forum. As you have found, the downside is they don't get the support they may be looking for. We all have our moments, but one of the reasons we have such a great forum is that folks who are unhappy with their Reos can come here and express it. As long as they don't get carried away, they generally receive a really warm and helpful response from nearly everyone. Let's face it, we all know what it's like to have a rig we're excited about and then for whatever reason, we not getting what we need from it. It can be downright frustrating...and since most of us remember those days, we tend to not hold it against those having a tough time. :D

Haha.... The first response to most of the posts over there is to come over here :)

When I first started looking for Reos I looked there and saw all the posts being directed here instead. I just clicked the link and found out how great this forum was. I knew I had found a new home where the people were as great as the mod.

^^^ THIS!!! I was one of those that always go to REOs model subforum when I was just getting interested. And I said what lame A$$es since there was not much activity there. Then when I discovered this, WHOA! You guys been hiding!!!

And really, kudos to you all and specially Robert. Him being around all the time and ready to answer questions right away does make US stronger. (tear forming in eyes when I said US)...
