I was checking out the provari today and it looked pretty cool, are there any disadvantages to these modded pvs?Which ones are recommended to someone looking to upgrade?Joye ego now.

Hey there,

IMHO the only disadvatage to the mods that I have noticed is that you have to pay more for them.

My evolution:

KR808D for about 2 weeks. Currently collecting dust in my vape supplies.
TW Tornado for about 1 month. Currently collecting dust in my vape supplies.
Super T Precise 10440. Currently collecting dust in my vape supplies. Just too short on battery life for me.
GGTS #130 still in use daily. 510 cartomizer at 6 volts with sweet type DIY.
Super T Precise 18650 still in use daily. LR atomizer at 3.7 volts with "tobacco" DIY.
Provape Provari in the mail to me right now. To be determined where it will fall in my daily vaping.

As you can see I actually use they mods as opposed to the others. Hope this helps.

Regards

The Provari is a fine choice and there are really no negative factors with it.The Provari is not a stealth vape, but for the performance you get, the size is not bad. It's main competition is the Darwin sold by Nhaler. It too is very highly regarded and is the only PV that truly offers a regulated power output, so that your vape is always the same, no matter what atty/ carto resistance you use. Right now these are the 2 high-end mainstream choices available and both are very worthy. The world of box-mods offers some interesting and beautiful mods if you like that form factor. In any case, progress is happening swiftly and mods will keep getting better and better.

If you want a much better, more consistent and longer lasting vaping experience, a good 5 volt or variable volt PV is the way to go. The ProVari and the new Darwin from nhaler.com are considered probably the two top VV PV's on the market. I see no down side. Also, with the Darwin, it comes with a 2 year warranty on the PV and 1 year warranty on the battery. That's better than any warranty I am aware of.

Mods disadvantage:
- higher priced
- separate batteries and charger

Everything else is preference.

No denying the price thing, but it should be noted that The Darwin has a built-in 1800 mah liPo battery with USB passthrough/charging capability. Users report battery life measured in days rather than hours.

That's true on the Darwin, but most mods will fit in the 'needing separate batteries' category.

Actually, I see this as an advantage. The smaller proprietary batteries on say a regular 510 or eGo will cost from $10 - $20 each and you can only get them from PV suppliers. Plus they have a recharge life of about 150 to 200 times. HV mod batteries cost about $3.50, are not proprietary and can be bought at battery and electronic stores and have a recharge life of about 2000 times.

It is an advantage in the long-run...

But when you go from an eGo to a mod (which is the OP's scenario), there is more than just a learning curve.

There are additional hardware to purchase.

When you couple the long term advantage of less expensive and long lasting batteries with significantly better performance and consistency, upgrading to a good HV PV is a smart move.
