Flavor of the week - FA Oak Wood!

Wow, this stuff is great! I was expecting a charred flavor, or bbq, or tobacco tasting, so of course I got just a little bottle. I was thinking 'bbq' when I opened it for a sniff, and it reminded me vaguely of the hickory bit in some bbq sauces. It's also a dark liquid, so I tried it reluctantly.

The combination of Oak Wood with Whiskey or Brandy or Rum is fabulous! It has a flavor that enhances them very well, turns them into more complex, tasty flavors. It does not overwhelm other flavors and is not so distinctive that it dominates a mix. I'm usually using about half as much Oak Wood as the Whiskey/Brandy/Rum, but I like equal parts in some recipes.

I thought oak-barrel-whiskey would go well with a coconut-almond-vanilla macaroon. I'm vaping that one now after an overnight rest. It's excellent! The whiskey is less wild with oak wood added, and it gets smoother overnight, so I'd say it's a 'steeper'. I added a bit of Brandy to it, just because I like the flavor, and the combo of whiskey-brandy-oak is great. I also made oak-barrel brandy with caramel-apple-pie that's tasting good. .. Looking around, I discovered very similar flavor profiles already exist in a couple well-known commercial versions. I see why those pricey liquids are so popular, if they taste anything like the bottles I made.

On the tobacco front, virginia, burley, oakwood, and a bit of Marzipan is tasting good to me. I'm a total novice with tobaccos, but I'd call this toasted-almond tobacco. I do not like Virginia or Burley standalone, almost liked them blended, but this is more my style. I'm using a lot of Oak Wood and Marzipan, just a touch of the tobaccos. I'm pleased to find that, even at 2%, the dark Oak Wood flavoring does not gum up my coils.

So - FA Oak Wood - definitely worth the $1.50 it took to get a sample bottle!

ive got maxx blend 7leaves and ry4--any ideas on some good mixtures?? i made a ry4, carmel, walnut, and cat cream mix that turned out pretty good.. does vanilla go well with tobaccos?

I recently tried 2 parts of FA 7 Leaves, 1 part FA RY4, 1 part FA Coconut, 1 part FA Catalan Cream. I was aiming to duplicate White Cloud's Bora Bora flavor, which is a smooth, mildly sweet tobacco with a hint of coconut. This was not a precise match (the tobacco part is different somehow), but I like it quite a bit. This is about as sophisticated as I'll ever get with tobaccos!

Here's one I can't put down. Juicy apples with fine oak-aged brandy and a hint of exotic spices in a savory crust. It reminds me very much of fermenting apple cider:

HARD CIDER APPLE PIE
0.75% FA Vienna Cream (for vanilla undertones) or Catalan Cream (for cinnamon undertones)
0.75% FA Walnut (sweetens and accentuates apple)
0.75% FA Caramel (sweetens and add deep notes)
0.75% FA Apple Pie (for the crust)
0.75% FA Fuji apple (juicy bright apples)
0.75% FA Brandy (to ferment the apples; can be doubled for extra booziness)
0.75% FA Oak Wood (to make the Brandy ideal)
0.75% FA Cardamom (adds ginger and cinnamon touch that make cider flavor)

If you're using PureVapes dropper bottles, just add 1 drop of each flavoring to 4ml of your nic base - easy and quick. Shake and vape, but if you let it sit overnight, the cream flavor will come through more.

This is a superb apple vape!

Hi HIC, I've had some success with 7Leaves combined with Blueberry and Dragon's fruit for a bit of sweetness. It goes well with a bit of cream with minimal Vanilla - Fresh cream perhaps? I used 2% Blueberry Wild, and 1% Dragon's fruit, both from TFA I think.

I wasn't too sure about it when I sniffed it, almost smelt a bit floral, but thankfully none of that in the vapour! I'm not really sure how to describe either it, or the strange mix I've made using it...

Hypnotic Walnut

2% FA Walnut
2% FA Hypnotic Mist (maybe I'll try 1% next time)
1% FA Oak Wood

Freshly shaken, it's just like vaping three things at once, but after a few hours the flavours are starting to blend together - surprisingly well - making something that's a bit too sweet for my liking, but interesting all the same. It's not trying to be anything particular, and it certainly succeeds at that! I'd tried it with just Walnut + Mist before, and it was OK but didn't work as well at all - the Oak Wood seems to pull it together somehow.

Thank you Huck! I'm going to give it a try. Will report back if its worth reporting on.

I just found an interesting pic on FB. Might be a good vape to do with FA flavors

has anyone mixed desert ship, 7 leaves & Virginia altogether to get good results?

I mixed 2% desert ship with 1.5% 7 leaves. havent tasted it yet. was thinking about adding 1% virginia

We2rcool posted a while ago a recipe for English Blend that uses Desert Ship, Virginia and Latakia.

Virginia 3%
Desert Ship 1%
Latakia 1%

if I remember correctly.

I will mix it this weekend but maybe it can help you as a guideline?

Ha! I still haven't tried that one, even though I've got all the ingredients now. Trying random stuff is why I've got up to a dozen tanks on the go at a time LOL! My mainstays are my Banana Cookie, my Bilberry Apple Pie with Custard, your Banana Coconut Cream Pie :) and usually some plain fruit (Pear, currently).

I got vapemail from Italy today!! :D
I should've ordered the Bread Crust seperately though - even after washing the other bottles, they still smell of it a bit :( No evidence of a spill in transit that I could see, but the bag they came in reeks of it. I don't find it offensive, but it's not convincing me that it's bread crust either... oh well.

The rest though, hmm, this could be interesting...
Fuji - smells fantastic, really appley, quite a few levels to it I suspect, and no fakeness... I can easily imagine vaping this on its own.
Peach White and Mangosteen - both smell great too, could vape alone.
Cucumber - smells, well, just like cucumber! I just have to try vaping this by itself, it _could_ be good.
Bergamot - I'm not sure about, smells slightly peppery (?!), a bit sharp, and a kind of 'almost floral' note. It may well vape completely differently to how it smells.
Fig Fresh - I'm enamoured by, I like the smell, which isn't over-powering, quite sweet.
Then we get a bit crazy...
Black Pepper - smells surprisingly mild, this could be useful, but I've no idea when.
Cardamom - smell is medium strength and pretty true to my recollection of the real thing.
And a whole lotta crazy...
Tomato - Oh boy is this sharp and strong. I'm not sure I'm man enough to try it.
Bread Crust - No Way Hosé. Like I said, it doesn't really offend me, but it would clearly take _weeks_ of soaking to get the smell out of the tank/clothes/room/car/city. I don't care what others say - their dwellings must already stink of something stronger than this, which I cannot imagine, but still, there is no other explanation! Seriously, I might still try a toothpick swirl of it, but in a disposable plastic tank, out of doors, and with an ego battery I'm prepared to throw out. I'd even mix it outside; that cap is not coming off in here again.

Long story short, I think I'll have to be careful with the random picks from now on!!
