I have never heard this brought up by anyone and have searched the web. It is a bit of an embarrassing question. I am a little over 40, male and the one side effect of vaping, for me at least, seems to be putting on weight. Is this possible or could it just be that my eating habits have changed after cigarettes. Does pg vg in itself result in weight increase? I use Hangsen liquids - do they include some kind of sugar? I do vape near continuously. There is no calorie info on the liquids. I am hoping somebody is a scientist out there in the ether! Any advice/thoughts really appreciated.

You cannot intake calories from vaping, unless you have a certain rare diabetes which allows the conversion of glycol (VG) to glucose. I don't remember what the condition was called, just researching and finding info on it. Even then the levels are miniscule.

However, a side effect of quitting cigarettes is weight gain. It could very well be what's causing the issue for you. Worry not, it will subside. Drink plenty of water and put in a few miles a day in walk distance you should be fine. Better than fine!

Vape well, vape often :vapor:

I’ve seen several posts of people saying they spotted a “vapor in the wild” and it turned out they were using it to diet. Vape that cherry pie instead of eating it. I sure gained weight after quitting cigarettes but I also started eating like a pig. Now the dog walks me instead of the other way around. The piggy tendencies have dropped off, the weight not as fast. The dog is having a blast though.

I dont think its the vaping thats the cause of your weight gain.
You are probably snacking a little more than you were when you were a smoker. Now is the time to get active and burn off some of those calories. Sweating it out is the best way. You can also get rid of toxins that are still in your body. I know most men dont do this but soaking in a hot bath also rids of body toxins (same effect as a sauna ) . Try to snack on fruits & veggies. Keep the sugar & salt intake to a minimum. Drink plenty of water and you will see your weight stay the same or even decrease a bit. Good luck.

Thank you ALOT for helping me with this. It has been worrying me. I clearly need to diet as I would not recognise a gym if I saw one :) Wrong side of 40 I guess and everything is shot - except the joy of not smoking anymore (after 30 years of up to 60 a day!) It might be a nice question to add to a Q&A for new vapours if there is such a thing... and yes, I'm practicing joyfully with vaping well and often (continuously) :)

While it is true that quitting cigarettes often can lead to weight gain...it's not really part of the issue when quitting smoking by vaping. Much of the gaining weight thing with traditional quitting comes from a subconscious desire to have the hand to mouth satisfaction that is gotten with a cigarette. Vaping eliminates that problem. One thing that could be a "problem" is if you vape a lot of very sweet dessert type juices. That *might* trigger a craving for sweet things to eat. Some people seem to be susceptible to that sort of thing.

Other than that, there is no reason vaping would add to weight gain. You might have another underlying health issue that ought to be checked into with a doctor. When I quit smoking and started vaping I lost around 10 pounds relatively quickly. I've since gone on to have lost almost 20 pounds over the past 2 years I've been off the cigs and using PVs. Why? I'm not sure (I certainly wan't dieting!) but I sure am not complaining about it! Perhaps because I could vape as much as I wanted any time I wanted...I didn't feel that nagging feeling of "needing" to put something in my mouth when denied my urges to smoke. With smoking there were limitations: actual restrictions (both self imposed as well as law imposed), as well as guilt in general since being a smoker pretty much put a person in the "leper" category with society.

I've gained weight too after making the switch, I really do think it has a lot to do with appetite suppression with smoking and getting your senses of smell and taste back which makes eating so much more enjoyable. I saw my cardiologist last week and he was far more happy that I had switched to vaping than that I had put on some weight; he said you would have to gain more than 100 pounds to offset the good you have done by stopping the inhalation of tar and carcinogens. I don't know if there is a scientific basis for that statement but it has an intuitive ring of truth to it, and it made me feel better. As he likes to say, concentrate on one problem at a time...

Don't know if your weight increase is connected to vaping or not. A guess would say no. Anyway i could give you some dietry advice but it probably won't be welcome. I could tell you what i'm doing to lose weight at the moment because i'm losing weight quite dramatically. As i'm not working i can spend a lot of time exercising but that's another story. But dietry wise i've got a good handle on it. I eat cereal for breakfast, cereal for lunch and cereal for dinner all with skimmed milk. I'll drink orange squash throughout the day to stay hydrated and maybe coffee and a couple biscuits, that's it !. 375 grammes of standard cereal is about 1000 calories. So i just eat that much a day. Even without exercise you'd still lose weight. Slowly sure but better to lose than to gain, i say that but it's only beneficial if one is overweight. Personally i do exercise a hell of a lot at the moment because i was about 4 stone over weight. If i told you i cycle 60 miles a day you probably won't believe me. It takes me about 5 hours by the way, at an average speed of 12 mph. It's just moderate exercise. Aerobic cardio vascular. It doesn't matter that it isn't hard work, what does matter is duration. I burn off 3000 calories during my 2, 2 and a half hour sessions. So each day i estimate losing around 2000 calories after taking into account what i've eaten. I was 15 stone 8 weeks ago and now i am 12 stone 13 pounds. I will continue until i am about 11 stone. Then i'll start with an ab roller. I've got a plan, nevermind !. All this has nothing to do with what you are experiencing i know but i do have a point. If i were to do the same exercise but keep my old eating habits all my work would be for nothing. The most important part of my daily routine is not eating anything fatty. Just carbs and that's it. I just control what i eat. It means everything !. Not that you're interested but my goal is 11 stone by the end of the year. I know, i don't see anyone else doing it either.

Probably doesn't help. That's my 2 cents.
