thanks Rader. do you know of any mods or a way i can locate mods with the LC filter? id like to scoop another provari, but maybe i can save some cash and get just as good of a vape from another mod that has an LC filter.

Off the top of my head, mostly Modder's mods that use quality regulators like the OKR-T/6, PTR8100W, or PTN04050. The Lavatube v1.0 uses a filter, but it is horrible at maintaining the set voltage.

TBH, since China started calibrating for VRMS, there isn't much difference when you're talking about voltage (before ProVari fans get in an uproar...I'm only talking about the voltage, 4vRMS is the same as 4vDC no matter how you slice it).The new mods like the ZMax, Vamo, Volcano Lavatube 2.0, etc, etc, do a fine job of regulating accurate voltage. But if you are a high power vaper you'll need to stack 18350's to hold >11w over the entire battery life.

icould have sworn i read the chip they use was patented but i do know accuset is the trademark.
but from provapes website:
Our built-in dynamic self-calibration algorithm keeps the output voltage accurate to 1% or better over the life of the product. The ProVari will constantly monitor and adjust itself to ensure you always get accurate voltage settings. Every device will auto-tune itself so it’s always precise!”

from an interview in spinfuell magazine: The AccuSet technology (created by ProVape) will constantly monitor voltage output, with accuracy to 1% or better over the life of the product.

Each ProVari will “autotune” itself so that your settings will always be accurate and worry-free.

while i agree to a point , fimd me another mod that is within 1% or less and will stay there for the whole charge.

This probably will get the Provari fans in an uproar....Creative Marketing.

Provape was certainly not the first to create an electronic device that delivers accurate voltage. This is the 21st century, every high tech device from cell phones to laptops, televisions, stereos, and even electric razors has a voltage converters. Many of them REQUIRE far more accuracy than a Provari; ripple currents less than 20mV. All of them need to constantly monitor the output and it is easily done with a feedback circuit to a comparator. Algorithms and auto-tune is just programming the processor to give the desired result. The Chinese mods use algorithms too, they're just not as refined.

Dont take this, or my post above, as a slight at the Provari. It does a great job of doing what it is designed to do. But in the end, it is a nothing more than a very expensive voltage converter. If you had an adapter you could screw an LED into it and have a mighty fine flashlight, or set it to 5v and use it to charge your cell phone, or to drive a small fan for hot summer days. Those that own a Provari paid a premium because it is a very well designed and well built voltage converter that does a wonderful job of providing voltage to a heating element.

As a owner for several mods, Provari, itastevv, SB, kicked. oh and don't forget the twists and spinners. I own several but am not a fanboy of any. As of yet. I won't praise or condem any of them. As long as they do the job for us, well that's the bottom line. Heck I picked up one of my first kGo's the other day. Put a LR carto/tank on it and was just as happy as a little kid at christmas. Honestly I think the makers of the devices are getting way to fancy. Just my :2c:

all the mods will fire differently, some use pwm or little pulses of voltage, some are the same as two wires running from the battery.
think of it this way if you take a wire and touch both ends of the battery real fast on and off it will take a bit longer to get hot then if you just hold it on the battery. while not a big difference in real world situations some say they can tell a difference none the less.

some of what you are seeing is due to the load of the carto.
setting a voltage and pressing the button with a meter attached is not the same as putting on the carto and pressing the button, sometimes the mod or battery will drop when there is a load. others can keep the voltage stable.

watching some of pbusardo's reviews he uses a meter that goes between the battery and carto and when he presses the button you can see the voltage drop down a little bit and if this is happening on your battery then the vape will change also.
some mods/batteries are better at stopping this, this is where the provari ultimately shines. no matter what you attach, no matter what ohms, if you set 4.1 when you press the button you get 4.1 and pbusardo has shown this in his review.

while this may explaine the differences for the same carto on different batteries, there is also the did they use thick or thin wire 4 wraps or 7 wraps in the coil. sometimes the way the coil is built will change the responsiveness of the device also and helps explain why this carto "seems hotter" faster than this tank etc.

ok, so PWM is the pulse width modulation aka million little pulses. makes sense.
what is the type of power called when its just straight power? is that DC?
are there any other types of power (excluding AVG)?

just to categorize, i have noticed that egos/spinners tend to be PWM
zmax/vmax (vamo?) is RMS
mech mods would be DC (?)
provari seems to have its own thing going on.
wondering if we can expand on these categories...?

For Kemosabe;;;;; DC current like from a battery is a "direct current" When looked at on an oscloscope (sorry for spelling). True DC is shown in a straight line. AC current with is alternating current goes up and down. That's where they get the 60hrtz cycles for homes and such, unless overseas then it's 50 hrtzs. It pulese that many times a second I believe. I don't know why they got to do it with our mods but some work and some don't. I can take a straight 18650 protected battery and put it in my SB with no kick. A 2.2ohm carto is wonderful. I still think it's getting way to complicated. sorry. I saw a picture of a person that just took some tape and wraped a carto with 1 peice of wire around it and vaped. Simple and nothing breaks. Been thinking about doing it.

you are right. im definitely delving into an area i have very little knowledge in and itll likely not be understood by me.
this whole thread came about as a way of me trying to understand why certain devices hit differently than others.
i think im better off just experiencing it rather than trying to fully understand it.
