I have to share my carto tank experiences over the last ten months regarding punched or pre-punched. I use Boges in several different tanks, nice ones. I punch my own holes, always have. The unpunched cartos are less expensive than the punched, so I prefer to save money, and I can vary my hole size to suit my juice. I have yet to either deform my cartomizer negatively, damage an O Ring, or experience any flooding. Occasionally, I'll get a bad box and the cartos won't last very long, but all in all, it's pretty smooth sailing, and my vape technique is not as suggested by the experts. I hit that bad boy like an analog, so I know I'm killing the carto or coil faster, but so what. I like what I like.

The SmokTech carto punches have worn out on me pretty quick, so I switched to the Siam Mods punch and all was right with the world again. I have backup O Rings which I'm prepared to use if and when they ever wear out or are damaged. However, I may never have to replace them, before I break a tank or something, based on how it's going so far, though I have broken a tank or two a couple of times....the price of glass and a better flavor, I suppose. For the extra money I save on a week's worth of cartos that I punch myself, I can buy many, many O Rings, so I say, why not punch your own, save the money, control the vape, etc.? I know many friends who punch their own cartos, many have been vaping much longer than me, and yet I've never heard of a single one having to replace their O Rings. Obviously, Bad and others have had different experiences, which I certainly respect, but I just haven't had any problems at all, other than the cheaper punches do wear out too soon.

The location of the holes and the type of tank affect how much "change" to the carto in the tank that will occur, and I guess mine are high enough on the Phiniac's where I am not affected negatively at all. But, if an O Ring fails, and certainly this will happen eventually whether I punch my own or not, I'll just replace it. So, YMMV, but I've had no problems at all in this area and have saved quite a bit of money punching my own. To each their own, I suppose. Good luck, best to you, my two cents, welcome to the Forum.

punching holes or cutting slots is the only way to go , 2 yrs of carto tanks i have only replaced the bottom o ring one time i use a cone shaped drip tip to install a new carto and the way i cut my slot i go back over the slot perpendicular with the cutting wheel so it removes any sharp edges i have never cut my o ring from a slot that i have made ,im with you Bill why pay someone else to punch my carto

Yeah, I just don't want the new vaper or new carto tank vaper to get the impression that punching their own holes has a big downside, because it doesn't, and non-punched cartos can save money. Of course the nicer punches cost a bit more. I got mine, the Siam Mods V2, from Phiniac:

V2 Cartomizer Punch - Phiniac Rugged Pyrex Glass Tanks

While this punch is two or more times more than the SmokTech ones, they are "heavy duty" in comparison, have not worn out or had thread problems, and they just do a great job. Here's the the video on using them from Phiniac:

Since the cartos are about $1.30 for slotted/punched and $1.00 for unpunched or a savings of $.30 a piece, three cartos will amortize the cost of a complete set of O rings, which run about $.95 for a set of inner and outer rings for both the top and bottom caps. It may not seem like a lot, but it saves me about $90.00 per year when I punch my own, or about the cost of two Phiniac tanks per year. Plus, I like punching my own. I like the mechanics, I like the ability to change the size and number of holes to "suit" my juice, I get the placement to match up exactly as I like it in any tank. Just think it's a good idea too, williebb. Thanks for sharing! Happy vaping, power up and vape on!
