Hi all...I've been a lurker of sorts here on ECF for the last 6 months or so and have learned so much from you guys and now taking the advise of alot of you I ordered the foxy box mod from Steve on Wednesday and am anxiously awaiting the mail man today!
I've been using the egoT for the last couple of months and have fallen off the wagon because Im just not getting what I need out of it. (whats sad is I prefer the vapor over "tobacco smoke" now but cant find my sweet spot) This will be my first box mod & first experience with 5vs...Im hoping I'll get the "flavor" and "th" Im craving so I can toss these nasty analogs for good.
Im wondering also about his 3.7 mod too now...would it hit better than the ego? Or are all 3.7v's the same??

Hey Missy, if it's TH and Vapor you want, the 5v with a 3Ω carto is a great combo. Plenty of both.
IMO, not all 3.7v's are the same. Some will hit a little better than others. It can depend on how they are built. Steve's 3.7 works as well as any I've used. In fact I had a GLV2 Mini and used Steve's 3.7 over that. Finally sold the Mini. You can't, IMO, beat em, or the price.

There is a world of difference between 5 or 6 v and 3.7 :) That being said , using a 3.7 with a lr atty is a good simulation of a 5 v mod . Not exact , but close .

If you have never used either set up , then yes there is a huge difference between a 5v mod

and a 3.7 with a regular res atty.

Hi Opl. Thats exactly what Im looking for!
I ordered some dual coil carts from VK to try specifically with this mod hoping the combo will knock my socks off so I can trash these nasty smelly sticks.. lol Now Im kicking myself for not ordering the 3.7v from Steve on Wednesday too :/ I have a feeling I'll be ordering it soon though bc you definitely cant beat the price.

WoW! I'm so close I can almost taste it! :) I did try lr cartos once before with the ego but only 2 of the box of 5 were any good so I got frustrated and tried the tank system. That's when I discovered that I didn't care for a cooler vape! Its all trial and error I guess.

Just get some Boge or Smoke Tech cartos. I have yet to get one bad one out of a box of 5. A 2Ω carto work good for me on a 3.7v. And hang around here for awhile and mabey pick up a Variable Volt.

I just want to make sure everyone knows that a Low resistance carto of 1.5-2.0 ohm is too low for 5 volts. Ideal is 3.0 ohms in my opinion.

You are welcome to experiment with 5v at other ohm resistances, but these are my opinions.

One other thing about the 5v. 1.6 ohm dual coils will not work at all in the 5v. The battery protection circut shuts it down sensing too much heat (watts) in your atty or carto

I will be posting photos of the 3 prototypes being built shortly.

Here are a few photos. There is still work to do on these, but the hard part is done. The two larger ones will be 3.7 with 1 18650 battery, and the smallest manzanita mod with be for a 14500, or another skinny style battery. maybe a 14650 will work in it. Its plenty long, just a bit slender.

This one is my favorite and will hold a 18650. Its made from Manzanita and will turn a deeper red when oiled. I am not set on the final finish of these yet.

This one is Made of oak and is a beauty.

This is the smaller one that needs a long skinny battery. Its a beaut. It has been oiled.

He was thinking of drilling a hole in this have it serve as a base.

I have a couple of invoices to send out, and will be building later tonight. I have somewhere to be this evening, and will be back on the computer about Midnight Pacific Time. All orders will be responded to at that time.

I got some 1.8 Boge cartos to use on my Ego and tried them on my 5v FBM just for grins. They work great, plenty of vape and flavor. I tried checking the ohms to make sure they were 1.8 but I guess I was doing something wrong. Keep up the good work Steve. I'm going to Norway in august and I'm thinking about getting another 5v for backup. I think I'm done with 3.7v.

Excellent. let me know when you are ready.

2 ohms get way too hot with most juices at 5v, but heck, maybe its just my tastebuds. Thats a lot of watts there. But if you love your juice with that setup, go for it :)

I just want to say thanks to Steve for my new FBM! I got it yesterday and haven't put it down since! I never knew my favorite blueberry juice could ever taste like this:w00t:

I dont think I can every go back to my ego after this, 5v's ROCK!

I also ordered the dual coils to try with it (not knowing I shouldn't) and they worked about 5 times before it shut down :/ So thx for the 3 ohm carto to try, it vapes like a dream.

I couldn't ask for faster shipping and everything was well packaged in bubble wrap & the little pink plastic case was icing on the cake. THX AGAIN STEVE oh & btw those are great pics, the wood is gorgeous...now where do I stand in line for the VV I've been hearing about?? :D

I will order more vari volt kits and list them when they are built. Probably about a week. I am pretty sure the 5 I am finishing tonight are spoken for.

Glad you are thrilled with the 5 volt mod:)

I know for sure one of them is spoken for.:laugh: Invoice me, invoice me.:vapor:

My friend is quite the wood scrounge. He is retired from a career in Forestry, so he has some good connections. The redwood used in the first prototype was from a Giant Sequoia limb that had fallen in a state park. The manzanita comes from a large piece of property owned by a frend of his.

We were also looking online at some rare wood species that I may order.

I need to spend another day with him in the next couple of weeks.
