I have a couple feet of the XC-116 from Steve at SNG. It's truly amazing stuff. It never burns, ever. I have it setup in my IGO-L (I have a USA made clone but it's that style) and when I want to swap flavors I can either hold down the fire button on my mod or light the wick on fire and burn it off. If I really want to clean it, or recoil it, I take it off, hold it with some pliers over a blowtorch until it's white again, and it's good to go. I've used only a couple inches from my original order and I'll never go back to Silica or SS Mesh.

hi i was reading up on XC-116 and found that theres mutiple industrial whole sale sites suggesting that its not to be used "This material is intended for industrial applications only. In addition, Omega does not recommend this material for food, cosmetic, medical, or pharmaceutical use." Nextel Braided Ceramic Very High Temperature Sleeving >.>

Hmmm....googling SNG Vapor brings me to all dead links....404 not founds

doesn't seem safe to buy from.

SnG Vapor

Works fine, he's a good guy. The guy that owns it comes and visits one of the B&M shops here in Arizona every once in a while and always brings neat new toys to play with. I'm not sure why you kept getting bad links though.

It has to do with it having to be heat treated before use, it's not recommended to use it without treating it first. But they can't say that, because people will attempt it without knowing what to do and get it wrong and blame them. It's much easier to put a blanket don't use this policy out there to protect themselves.

Thanks for clearing that up!
:)

I think I put sng into google...in all small letters....it may have been user error too on my part. If everybody is vouching for this site I won't hesitate to order.

I bookmarked it.

The neat thing about it is that since you just torch the wick clean it lasts forever (not literally, but it lasts a really long time) so a single foot will last months and months. So worst case and you had a bad experience with them (which I highly doubt but hey worst case right) you'd only be out a couple dollars.

All of the aforementioned vendors sell basically the same low-quality stuff. It's all twisted pair silica or worse yet cheap fiberglass. There is only one vendor I know of in the US who sells the german silica that I personally swear by.

RTDvapor.com-
Wick and Wire : Silica Wick

I've had this stuff going for almost a month in two different drippers. Doesn't really get brittle, doesn't need to be pre-torched. Holds together nicely during coiling also. Well worth the $1/ft price. I've yet to try it in my genesis though, my wick and coil have been too stable to mess with lol.

I enjoy lighting my rda on fire and watching the old juice just burn off nicely and having it be pristine again.

Congrats I am sure you had fun doing it.

Some of us are not ready to do SS wick yet much less dive into ceramic and do need the information in plain old wicking material sources.

In my case I like the idea of being able to go to wall mark and buying a ball of cotton yarn to rewick my protank and octopus. Should wicking materials become difficult to get or I run out at a bad time I want to know how to improvise.

You have to get it really really hot. Like kiln hot. I hit up SNG and he told me he heats his in a kiln to 750 deg C. So I'm not sure you can do that safely with a torch.

Yeah, Big Tex treats his Nextel ceramic in a kiln. I remember another thread that suggested a really high temp pre-treat and then it should be kiln fired at something like 1000 degrees for one to four hours. Something like that. The point is folks shouldn't just rush out and buy the UN-treated stuff hoping they will be able to treat it at home with a bic lighter or butane torch or something! :) This stuff requires some *serious* heat and for relatively long times before it is usable as vaping wick.

I re-wicked one of my clearos last night with cheese cloth. I think I used too much as it swells up pretty fast and makes it a very tight draw. It DOES seem to wick very well though. Anyone have any cheesecloth wick videos bookmarked they might like to share? This is my new avenue of vaping research ;)

And for those still shopping silica I recommend you buy a short length from PBdragon.com, my chosen silica supplier, and compare it to the silica you can get from anyone else (actually order some from a different vendor or two as well). I think you will find the differences noticeable, as well as the price! Of course if he changes his supplier you may be out of luck. YMMV.

Ceramic acts looks and is almost exactly the same amount of complicated as silica. I could set them next to each other and you couldn't tell the difference until you played with it or looked really really close.

Which is fine but I can't walk into WalMart and buy ceraminc. I can buy cotton.
