Hello, I had a question about one of your policies enforced by one of your staff. It appears as though when someone enters a 20 page thread and insults the OP, and he responds in a kind, calm manner and makes no further mention of the insult, the offensive post is supposed to be deleted and the thread is to be completely closed.

I PM'd the moderator to ask if it was really necessary to close the entire thread and punish everyone rather than just leaving it open since he deleted the offensive post, but haven't gotten a reply despite the moderator being around. So I was just curious if you could confirm that your policy is that if a moderator deletes a post where someone insults the OP but no argument results, the entire thread must be closed, even if it has like 8,000 views and 20 pages of posts.

And if that is your policy, could you please reconsider it, as it is unnecessarily punishing a lot of people for the words in one delted post.

Thanks in advance, no sass here, just hoping to get a clarification. :)

baba if you have an issue with something the mods have or have not done contact SJ per his request and please dont waste forum time on it.

First, your reply to this forum member is both abrupt and dismissive. You do not seem to care what the OP wrote. "Please dont waste forum time on it" is about the worst thing you could have written.

Second, you do not specifically tell the OP how to contact SJ. Saying "contact SJ per his request" assumes everyone knows who SJ is and how to contact that person.

Am I nitpicking; not really. I just expect moderators who jump into a thread to be helpful and provide guidance.

first off my moderation duties are not a large part and your post assumes the OP is not of average intelligent.

"Second, you do not specifically tell the OP how to contact SJ. Saying "contact SJ per his request" assumes everyone knows who SJ is and how to contact that person." from your post that line is saying the OP dont know who SJ is and dont know how to contact him

AM i nitpicking; not really. just making a point

See, you support my position. All I ask is that you are prepared to clearly and concisely answer questions from any forum member if you wish to engage them in a thread. How can you assume forum members always know what you are talking about. I have been around for a few months and had no idea what an SJ was until about 6 weeks ago. Maybe I am the one who is clueless?

Sorry to interupt....But your kidding right?:confused:The Wiz!

Well if everyone would stop using SJ instead of the actual name then I'm sure we would be reduced of people not knowing the forum admin.

Second, no one should ever tell someone not to waste forum time on a question. Because A) That is what a forum is about, specifically this sub forum. B) Its not like anyone is getting paid per post or anything, so it never hurts to ask a question. If you wanted the question/thread to have been resolved quickly an /real/ reply should have been given and that would have setteled it, no?

And now that we're like 7 posts into this thread with out a real answer, would a mod please provide one? I would like to know as well.

I closed the thread Baba....and you PM'd me after I left for work. So your conclusion that I was "still around" is erroneous.

That thread caused several complaints.....and caused infractions to be issued. When a thread becomes that disruptive, it gets closed.

    Did that answer your question?

    Lu

Ahh no worries about you going to work, it's a necessary evil. :D

As for the reports, that was mostly me trying to keep the thread cleaned up and free of namecalling.

We are all human and to ask use to to predice every possible outcome or answer to something is a little like a child crying. do you know what will stop the child from crying i sure dont. and did you ever consider that i was answering it as a user who saw SJ's post and request which i pointed out in my edit.
I consider myself a "Diamond in the Rough" Lu........or is it SL now??:)The Wiz!

I noticed under Babachoos name it says Moved On. Is that a gently way of saying he's been banned?
He reports (on other forums) that he has been perma-banned. I don't know why that isn't being put along with the name. In Kates case not even 'moved on' can be found - it appears, when looking at her name next to posts, like she could still enter at will and make posts... quite unclear, these things, for the members and visitors here; but there must be certain reasons for this no doubt - maybe someone in the know can give you clearer information, I can't, sorry.
