After reading the warnings about the SLB Vapros V1, I'm curious about the auto cut-off feature that many of the manual batteries have. Hopefully someone more electronically-minded than myself can help me out with this. I'm admittedly "electrically challenged". :)

I understand that (for batteries with the cut-off feature) if you hold down the button for longer than the cut-off time (say, 10 seconds), then the battery will automatically shut down, or at least stop firing. My question is - should the auto cut-off still kick in if the battery was activated somehow without pressing the button (say, in the case of a short or other internal malfunction)?

I have another SLB unit on the way, and my first thought when reading about the Vapros was....uh-oh. I know I can test the auto cut-off feature by holding down the button until it shuts down. But I want to know if the circuitry of the cut-off switch is dependent on the button being pressed, or dependent on time amount of time the battery has been firing.

Clear as mud?

I only use ego, but when I'm putting it anywhere when I'm not using it, I just give the carto a quick twist back. Similar to unscrewing a light bulb in a lamp- if the switch is activated, the electricity has nowhere to go.
Eh? Doesn't your eGo have the lockout feature? (5 clicks in 2 seconds)

That's a really good question, curious about the answer myself. I'm thinking if something is going wrong with the electronics that it's firing by itself, there would be a good chance the cut-off protection would be compromised too.

I agree...very good question and one that never occurred to me before. I hope we can get an experts answer on this.

With a mod with a hot spring, the spring would collapse and break the connection in the case of a short so the mod wouldn't fire. Some mods have fuse that would blow in case of a short so that would break the connection. But what if a mod had neither. Hmm...I'm just kinda thinking out loud here.
