Passthrough Question : Inline battery

Just got my 1st passthrough for a 901 from EastMall.

It has a standard AAA battery inline with the usb cable and the ecig. (AAA battery is in a small box between the usb and the ecig).


What is the purpose of this and how does it work compared to a direct wired usb pass through ?

I have to say, vapour is a lot less with this pass through than with a normal battery. Even powered of a kensington.

Seriously thinking about cutting the wires, bypassing the inline AAA battery and splicing the wires together again. Would this work ?


There is no button to press. It is an auto passthrough.

Does it still function even if the usb is not plugged in?
I'm assuming the AAA is being used as a regulator. Allowing no more than the recommended amount of voltage to come to the atomizer, yet still keeping continuous power.

It's so you can vape while not connected to USB!

The drawback is what you mention, the power is lower than direct USB, but it may save your atomizer from dieing because of too much power.

Cat...was thinking about this very thing last night...wondering what the diff is. Don't want to hijack ur thread, but was wondering if we could get some opinions on which is liked better...in-line batt or not?

The inline battery also allows you to use it with lower powered USB battery packs. Without an inline battery, you have to buy the more expensive 1000mA or better packs, which cost around $50. With the inline batt, you can use a 700mA supply, and mine cost $15.
