I have four 510 attys. they all work perfect.
You don't want to dry vape an atty to many times as it thermally stresses the element.

I have accidentally dry vaped (about 3 times) my modified RN4081 until I saw a lot of smoke coming out and surprisingly 3 of 4 one year old RN4081 attys still work.
The one died a when I dropped it on the concrete.
I'm not sure if the 510 will be as durable since it seems to run hotter.

I dry vape a new atty a couple seconds at a time to burn off what ever the factory puts on it. I am afraid to inhale that stuff. I am careful not to let it get to hot. I do this for my health not the atty's health. Funny, I can worry about my health now that I vape.

After the first dry vape I am very careful to never dry vape that atty again.

I am also careful not to flood the atty or battery. I try to keep the led end elevated following a fresh refill.

I prime the atty with about 2 drops juice after cleaning/drying atty. You can hear if atty is cooking the juice.

If atty is not performing well I clean it with distilled water and dry it. If I was lucky enough to have a bottle of vodka around I would use that.

Thank god I'm an alcoholic. Got some svedka in the freezer right now!:p
On a serious note. It seems to be working at the moment. Only time will tell

Seriously, the manufacturers have considered the many ways someone will use their products. They have minimized problems by providing a priming fluid to the atomizer when it was produced. If you use cartridges, shove one in an go at it. There is no reasonable reason one has to 'prime' or season' a new atomizer. While you may not like the initial puffs off a new atty, it ain't gonna kill you.

Now, if you clean an atomizer for whatever reason, when it is dry, there is no primer protection. In that case, three to five drops down the atomizer tube and a one minute of wait time is probably enough to safely begin to use your device.

When you device produces significantly less vapor or you start getting an off flavor, you probably are getting dry and need to top off your cartridge.

I would drip a couple drops on the bridge and try a couple puffs, and if nothing drip a couple more..........if it start to gurgle it is getting flooding and you can just blow it out with your mouth(plug the center hole) and try again. I have flooded the mouth piece before and that makes it hard to draw......you can bite lightly and pull the first cap of and make sure it's not loaded with juice.

wish I could help more, but my atty's have always fired right up
