Hi,
I am posting here since, well, said coil sits on a Reo and I can't see where else to post it - and I'm following Rob's video for making a coil so well - Reo forum.

I have something with my coil I can't understand. Made one of those loose coils wrapped around a double strand of silica, 5 wraps and it meters out at 2 ohm, all okay. Weird thing, when I put the cap on (an ERA RBA) it moves to 5 ohm, which doesn't make sense - as if it would be the coil touching the outside wouldn't it drop instead of go up?
Also noticed that if I move the coil around it's resistance changes significantly....makes little sense?

Okay, it's been a while since I was in high school, but it doesn't quite compute to me - could someone enlighten?

Thanks )

Thanks. Ah, I thought that could be the reason. Crappy thing is the ERA has screws that break the wire if you tighten them too much. Guess I did good in ordering a RM2 last night )

I have had to file the sharp edges from the bottom of screws on several of my rebuildables because I was cutting the wire. I make them rounded at the bottom where it meets the wire.

you can tell when the screws are tight enough if you look at the wire as you tighten the screws - the wire lifts up a little. It's hard to describe it apart from to say that it's like a dog cocking its leg to pee!

if you inadvertently break a wire by overdoing it, just throw the coil away and make another (same wick if you like) because the resistance readings will drive you to madness.
