I have only been vaping for 2 weeks currently using a nautilus and aerotank mega with a VV MOD that goes to 6V.

I am so into this I just ordered a Russian 91 and KFL+ after watching many videos and am preparing to do my first rebuild able with I guess 28 Guage to get 1.4ish Ohm.... my question is do I want to get a dna 20 for this or can I use my current MOD and be happy? I guess 12 W would be my max on this VV MOD?

As long as your current APV has a 3 or more amp output... you're fine with 1.4Ω at 10-12 watts.

On a 2mm (5/64") mandrel, 28 gauge would require a 10/9 wrap... about the perfect size for a 1.4Ω, compressed, single horizontal coil on a KFL+/R91%.
On a 1.5mm (1/16") mandrel, you'd need a 12/11 wrap for 1.4Ω... which would be pushing the limitations of physical space available.

Click on my first sig line hyperlink. Steam Engine will allow you to model coils quite accurately... before you build them.

The Russian vapes well at any watt level, as long as it's built and wicked properly. I currently vape it at 30 watts, but started out at around 10 watts. One has to be practiced and competent at builds and wicking before any atomizer will vape optimally at high watts. Some have a limitation on how high they can go because air restraints. But I would wait till you've maxed out your current mod and feel you need more before upgrading. The extra watts will be of no use till you are able to utilize it. At that point you will have a better understanding of where your vape path leads.

Vape long and Prosper!!

Greetings, welcome to the forum.

I've heard it said that the KF/KFL+ is not the best choice for sub-oHm vaping. I don't know whether this is true or not, but my best KFL+ builds have been in the 2.0 - 2.4 oHm range, with my mod set to 4.5 volts (about 8 watts). This is with a .28 gauge microcoil and a cotton wick.
