Sometime when I'm too lazy to get a hot water bath set up for a juice that needs to steep. I just set the bottle on top of the cable box for a bit while watching a hockey game and shake it in between periods. My cable box is warm but not too hot (juice stays under 120F).

I DIY a lot and the one thing that concerns me about setting juice in sunlight is I believe UV light breaks down Nic. I know I store my Nic in Amber Glass bottles in a cool, dark place. I'm not sure if a short period of time would really do any harm. Just wanted to throw that out for thought though. Not meant as a criticism of anyone's methods in any way, shape, or form.

Cheers,
Steve

Thanks Steve! Windows aren't an option for me between kids and pets. I so need to clean out a drawer or something now that I have all this extra stuff. Lol. I just ordered more replacement coils, 2 new drip tips, another mini pro tank 2 and as a fluke 2 of those silicone battery holders, because mine keep rolling off my desk. Thanks again for the link. I've been trolling (comparing prices) of a bunch of online retailers, but hadn't actually ordered anything since I wasn't familiar with any. With both of you having good experiences with DV, made me much more comfortable placing an order. I love my local B&M shop, but their tank prices are almost double what I just paid. More then double for the replacement coils. So I may just stick with getting my juice and the occasional battery or drip tip from them.

When in doubt, steep. I usually throw my liquids from the mail into a dark drawer/cupboard for a week or more before trying them again.

Some people have mentioned that you can speed steep things in jewelry cleaners and slow cookers. I tried to steep some of my liquids in a baggie with tops off in a inch of water in a slow cooker on warm, but I got scared after a while that it'd mess up my plastic bottles because they felt waxy (so I would obviously say that you should only use glass). Then again, it could have been because I was a bit more paranoid than I needed to be. Some people say that leaving liquids in a slow cooker on 'keep warm' for like 8 hours is equivalent to two weeks of steeping.

You are quite Welcome TrickL, I know what you mean about coil prices at some B&M shops. One shop by me was charging 15.99 for a 5 pack  . I expect to pay a little more but almost 3 times as much was a bit excessive IMO. DV is a good place, I really think you will be happy with them. I've actually ordered from them a few times and received excellent service each time.

Cheers,
Steve

Ouch. I'm with Wings - build your own. It's easy and cheap, and you can tailor the resistance to suit your needs and your juice. You will save BIGTIME in the long run. BTW, I use organic cotton for my rebuilds, and not silica. You REALLY taste the juice with cotton... :)

My local was charging $4 each, so a penny more for 5 then yours. With one not lasting 24 hours, I would be spending almost as much on coils as I was cigs. Lol

Building my own just seems scary. I am electronically minded...when it comes to using it, not so much at how it works. If that makes sense. I'm afraid I'll screw it up. I'm good at researching things so I don't use it incorrectly because it's basically matching information. But actually wrapping the coils seems more subjective. And while I understand enough about ohms and voltage to not cause serious issues, I don't really understand why they should be kept at certain levels, how they work, and what could cause problems. Lol. I can pick any electronic up and figure out how to use it, but not a clue in hades how it does what I can make it do. Lol.

Wow, not sure that makes a lot of sense!

Steeping is one of those things you may be skeptical about, but in my experience it actually does work for a lot of juices. You will notice on some juices that after a few days the color will darken, and it often times seems to marry flavors together producing a better tasting juice. If your juice tastes weird right off the bat, give it some time to change, chances are, it will. Follow these steps for the best results:
1. First and foremost, DO NOT WATER BATHE YOUR JUICE, THE NICOTINE WILL DEGRADE WITH HEAT AS WELL AS THE FLAVOR
2. Before you take the cap off the juice, shake them for a good 5 minutes
3. Take off the cap AND the tip then squeeze the bottle a few times to ventilate the air inside the bottle
4. Place them in an open, cool, dark place. (A closet would be the best, and make sure there is no light because it can cause problems, most likely changing the flavor)
5. Every 4 to 5 hours you should squeeze the bottle a few times to ventilate the air, getting rid of all the "old" air
6. Every once or twice a day you should put the caps back on and repeat steps 1-4.

Just follow those steps and within a few days you should notice your juice becoming darker, and thicker. Steeping a juice gets rid of all the alcohol and chemicals in the juice, while enhancing the flavor and giving the nicotine time to mature. Here are some other helpful tips:
1. Let your juice steep for atleast a week for the best results in your juice (remember the longer you steep, the better!)
2. If your looking for more of a throat hit get a higher PG level, as it also give more "flavor" which means longer steeping time
3. If your looking for juice that produces more vapor, get a higher VG level, while producing more vapor, it gives less flavor, for less steeping time
4. Custard type juices also take longer to steep
5. Always shake your juice before you refill your tank

From experience i know that some juices only take a couple days to steep while some may take up to a week. So you might want to test the juices after a couple days. Back to the PG-VG ratios, there are not many places to get custom ratios, which is why i highly recommend Best E Cigarette | Buy Electronic Cigarettes | E Cig Juice - MT Baker Vapor. I personally buy PG20%-VG80% juices, and like how i said the lower the PG the less the flavor, but Best E Cigarette | Buy Electronic Cigarettes | E Cig Juice - MT Baker Vapor offers flavor shots so you will never have to worry about the lack in flavor! Good luck and i hope this helped!:toast:

Thanks jayyco. The butterscotch and expresso flavors are going into my liquor cabinet tonight to mature. I will be ordering some new flavors here shortly, so I can get them set aside. It makes sense that they'd improve with age, I just started trying different flavors 2 days ago, so I never had more than a bottle at a time. ☺️ I am very thankful that there's a chance the butterscotch will improve, because the thought of wasting a whole bottle doesn't sit well with me. Lol

Got my DV order just now! Super quick, and everything correct! I'm so happy to finally have a back up tank (another mini pro tank II) and coils so I can clean all my old ones at one time! Very impressed! Will definitely be a repeat customer!!! Thanks Steve and ThePaladin for the recommendations!!!

They're very fast. I bought some coils to carry in my purse for emergency type situations, since I don't carry everything I have. I placed 3 orders last week, my DV stuff showed up before anything else and they were the last place I ordered from. Even a day after the other places. They rock.

Happy to hear it worked out well for you. Nothing worse than recommending something and have it turn out bad :D

Cheers,
Steve

I had faith! I took one of my heads apart for the first time last night to clean it and see what it looked like inside. Once cleaned, it's been good as new! I would have wasted a ton of money if not for everyone here! Just wanted to say Thanks again! Now I can't wait until tomorrow, because I have a sample pack of juices coming!

Ok, gotta comment. As I make my own juice I always, always, always steep my juice in a warm water bath immediately after making them. Some still need a bit of time to mature but 90% are good from the first shake.

Here's the basic process:

From finished I put a half-full coffee cup in the microwave for one minute and pull it back out. My juice goes in for 15 seconds at a time and then gets shaken vigorously for a full minute.

I then drop it back in the water for another 15 seconds and shake it for another minute.

***********************
I want to emphasize that my water is only barely as warm as the coffee I drink when I start steeping, and does not get reheated.

*******************
This all seems to work quite well, although I have to admit that I make small batches (6ml or less) as I tend to switch flavors frequently and almost always drip with an RDA. The comment on potency of nicotine being reduced by heat I am not sure about but, all of my juices are 24mg and 80/20 vg/pg and normally (save for new flavor trials) made with multiple flavors around 15-20% flavor profile. Also, the comment about color changing with age and flavors "rounding or evening out" I have noticed and the flavor does seem to intensify; this could be due to the high vg content more than the steeping itself in my case though.

************
Just a quick note, I checked the temp of the water after 1 min and it was just under 130f; after 2 min it was right at 180f. So for 15 sec in the 130f water I would guess that the juice is getting close to 90-100f and with the 180f water I would guess it would be around 150-160f.

Those are only guesses but that's my 2 cents.
