also what does protected and unprotected mean for these types of batteries? Thanks again people
Protected means theirs a circuit board on the positive post to protect the battery.

ICR will have both protected and unprotected styles.

Appropriate batteries (IMR and INR) are safe chemistry and will not have protected options.

Hello Beckdg again thanks for your advice, a few questions I've seen the following LG HE4 18650 2500mAh 35A 3.7v IMR High Drain Flat Top Battery, would this be suitable for my Kbox mini and safe to vape at 30 watts?

Sorry for bombarding you guys, but I'm new to all of this and I want to ensure that everything is safe in order for me to continue my vaping

Yes, the 20 amp LG HE4 (not another battery, just correcting the specs) will be just fine in that mod at any setting. My wife actually uses exactly that combo sometimes.

Do be sure to pick up a proper external charger. Those small USB charge ports do fail and can cause issues.

I recommend in this order

Anything by xtar... especially one that doesn't utilize USB

Efest luc

Pila

Nitecore

No need to apologize. You're doing the right thing.

RE the charger it should stop charging at 4.2 volts. I check my batteries with a multimeter both before and after charging. I also keep a rough check on how long they are taking to charge. That way when batteries start to deteriate I can tell.

Don't leave batteries on charge over night or unattended, its also worth using a charging bag. Allow batteries to rest after charging, so don't pull them straight off the charger and use them straight away. I charge my batteries during the evening and allow them to stand overnight before using them. It seems like a lot of hassle at first, but you soon establish a routine.

Your mod should not fire once the batteries drop below a certain level, this is usually way above the minimum charge level for the batteries we use. Often mods stop firing when the battery voltage is around 3.3V,minimum charge levels are around 2.5V but this varies with both the mod and the battery in question.

Also I need to ask, does my mod have like a safe cut out point seen as the batteries I'm ordering (LG) are unprotected also the charger I've order which is Xtar will that have a cut safe cut out point too?
Yes, regulated mods do have what's known in other hobbies as LVC (low voltage cutoff).

Yes, that charger will cut off automatically. Be sure to read the manual and start a thread asking any questions you have about it in the batteries forum.

I say this because I own the vp2 and the vp4 and they have a switch on them that controls how high they charge.

For our batteries you want the 3.5v nominal setting. This will terminate the charge when the cells are at 4.2V.

DO NOT PURCHASE OR USE A CHARGING BAG. Putting your charger in a bag while running is not only a danger to the charger and batteries, it increases your risk as well.

I have and use several charging bags. THIS IS NOT what they're used for.

Yes, monitor your charging as much as possible. It's just good practice.

If you damage a batt or think there may be something wrong, either recycle the batt or watch it like a hawk while charging.

But if you take care of your stuff and know it isn't damaged, there's no reason to believe you need to monitor to completion every time you charge.

Also... YOU CAN use the batteries in your mod straight off the charger.

This is not other hobbies where they'll be stressed the entire time from when you install them until the unit cuts off.

They'll get rest, cool down and be just fine between pulls.

Sure, if you have the time, let them rest and cool down for 10 to 20 minutes before using.

But it's not necessary.

Wow haha that's a lot of info, now I've ordered my LG Batteries from Amazon, they do stress that their batteries are regulated and tested and that I should be careful of rewraps and not to use grade B or C batts (this was mentioned by the seller) however should I be concerned that I've ordered off amazon?

Hi there. Welcome to ecf! I've read this thread and it's great to see you interested in the safety of using your batteries properly. We need more of that around here.
With that said, Beck answered your questions about the LG He4 and provided a trusted source. Iso there a reason you went to amazon, bought them, and asked after whether or not it was a good idea to do so? That doesn't seem rational.

You may be fine.

I have not yet seen reports of the HE4s being cloned.

Doesn't mean it hasn't happened, though.

Though, if you have the opportunity, I would cancel that order and get a pair or two from the link above.

A known, trusted source, in many cases, goes a long way in providing the security of knowing you're getting the right batteries.

Thanks again for all of the info and help, unfortunately it's too late for me to cancel the order, that being said the details they provided with regards to them being uk tested and regulated, surely they can't have that info up there and then for something to go wrong their necks would be on the line as a result of their lies, just thinking about that. See it's stuff like this that does worry me about vaping

Best bet, get another pair from the link above and compare them side by side with the ones you get from amazon.

Next best...
Post up some pictures here in a dedicated thread asking if they're authentic when you get them.

You're probably fine. Never hurts to check, though.

Hello fine people of the vaping world, I've been on my KBox Mini now for just over 3 months and I'm super happy with it, however I do have a question or a few questions with regards to sub ohm vaping.

Now I use the already made sub ohm (0.6 coil) coils that are supplied via kangertech now I've been reading about horror stories that ecigs will explode and all that horrible nasty stuff that it's kind of got me worried a little, (I don't want to go back on the analogues) so I'm using a high drain battery which is 20/40 A, I vape at the moment 30 watts, 4.3 volts, is this safe or should I be turning it down a wee bit?

Kind regards
your fine. your only pulling about 8.5 amps from the battery. if it's not getting warm then you have a good battery. and have nothing to worry about
