Well, since I have not seen anyone ask this, I am creating this seperate thread thread about the usb pass-thrus. Please keep all prodigy questions in its own original thread.

So, the question at hand. The new pass-thrus, are these direct wired to switch then to atomizer? Or is there some circuit inside to limit?

Is there a light of any kind on these pass-thrus? I hope not...

Steve, what is the voltage for the prior 801 USB passthrough model? I notice that it burns much hotter than the battery of course but never knew the specifics. Thanks bud!!!

The previous PS pass-through was putting out about the same voltage as your USB port; in my case, around 5v. But, the short cut off time for the device killed its potential. Fortunately, my 801 PS PT flaked out this past week so I gutted it and converted it to a straight manual USB PT. It is now outstanding.

Thanks Brakfastchef ... It would be interesting to try and find out if it was pulling all 500mAh it is capable of pulling through, and what type of issues the actual thin USB cord had. A 20G hot wire battling a 24-26G hot wire are 2 very different beasts. We originally sought the thinner gauge wire, only to find our hopes diminish ... We are now using 20G USB cables, which I feel can carry a 5v/500mAh load :)

I'm an artist so when you guys start talking mah's and amp's and volts, my brain goes into sleep mode. My current passthrough wont work off any of the USB ports on my Mac Powerbook, but works like a champ on the ports on the Desktop tower. My question is, is there any way to make a passthrough that will work on my laptop? Is having an inline battery pack the only way to make that work?

I will tell you I was using your pass-through with the Kensignton Portable Power Pack that was outputting 5v/1A. I assume that 1A made it through to the atomizer. In any event, the new USB Pass looks terrific with everthing that one needs and nothing else.

In a perfect world, a USB is supposed to output 5 volts/1 ampere, but that does not always happen. I understand that many Mac's have weak USB outputs.

You have two primary options. First, forget the USB port and try a portable power pack like the Kensington. It works really well and you can put it in your shirt pocket and walk around with your vaping device. Second, depending upon the model of your vaporizer, you can get a USB PT with an in-line battery. Hopefully, your USB port on the laptop can provide enough current to charge the battery. If not, option two is not good.

I think you will find that if you use a USB wall outlet adaptor you will get good performance consistently. Here is the one that I have:

Thanks guys, I actually use an old ipod wall charger with my passthrough when i'm at home and I've heard about the power packs. I'll give those a try.

Hi Steve,

Looks like the max amperage load for 20 gauge wire is 1500 milliamps or 1.5 amps, same as my kensington power pack max output! Match made in heaven! got a couple on order. American Wire Gauge table and AWG Electrical Current Load Limits
