I was young, maybe 6 or so, and I went out to eat with my family at a local diner. I think my Dad went to park the car while we were waiting to be seated. I saw my Dad and ran up to him, grabbing his leg and when I looked up it wasn't my father at all, but a strange man. I was mortified.

Was "fitting in" important to you as child/teen/adult?

Not so much to me, but it sure was to my parents - they tried so hard to 'middle' me. My dad asked me when I was young and still does, and I quote "Why can't you just conform?". I just shrug and smile.

OOPS came in late - Tree in a rainforest for sure!!

What's the nicest thing you've ever done for yourself?

My favorite tradition my family started was born out our refusal to travel for Christmas after ds#2 was 1...long story, but we go out for dinner at a Chinese Restaurant for Christmas Eve after we go to church. Now that we live back in town with family, my parents join us. It's special to us because this was our first "family" tradition not based on one from our extended family. And along the way we've had the opportunity to share it with several other 'transplant" families.
