I'm completely new to this. I have never tried any form of e-cigarette yet.
I used to smoke regular cigarettes socially all the time, and because of this have been addicted off and on to cigarettes, and feel this is the perfect product for me to substitute to for my cravings. I have no idea what I need to purchase to get started with any of this. I have thought about purchasing the Modern Vapor (sideshow I guess), and then was wondering if I could still purchase e-liquids from other online retailers, and put those other liquids into my Modern Vapor e-cig, so I could try different flavors. Therefore, I wouldn't have to buy everything from Modern Vapor, and could get the starting kit with them at first, and then branch off and buy liquids from those other retailers that have 50-100 different flavors of liquid, etc. Modern Vapor only has about 10-15 different liquids to choose from.

Is this possible? :p
If so, what are your recommendations?
I would prefer to start with low nicotine, and then eventually move down to no nicotine.

Thanks.

Hi fellow Ohioan, and welcome to ECF. I'm over in the Akron area. Yes, you can use other juices in the Sideshow. To get started you need to get a starter kit with at least 2 batteries. The Sideshow is a bit pricey but they have color options and kit options that make it attractive. It looks like a 510 from the description on their website. If so you could get a regular 510 kit for right around $30 from 510 Kits. The 510 is a good little starter unit for light smokers. But if you smoke more than a 1/2 pack a day it'll get frustrating because you'll essentially be tied to your charger.
You might want to watch the videos in this thread http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/new-members-forum/120044-i-made-videos-newbies-particular-broke-newbies.html. They provide some very useful information for those just starting out.
As far as juices, I would recommend buying a few small bottles with different strengths and flavors. That will give you some variety and let you find the nic level you need, and keep you going a while so you don't run out. Most people vape about 3ml per day, but it sounds like you're a light smoker so you will probably use less. I'd order around 30ml so you can keep going for a couple of weeks before having to reorder. If you want to keep the nic level low try some 12mg, but I'd suggest you have a bottle of 18mg on hand in case that's too low. You could also get a bottle of 6mg in the same flavor as the 18mg so you could just mix them to get 12 if you want.

I have read that the Sidesho is a modified M401. I am not sure how easy it is to refill Sidesho's carts. They use modified carts with a foil cap and probably use a pointy atty to pierce them? I recommend you do more research unless one of the answerers above is actually personally familiar with the sidesho and its carts. I get the impression elsewhere they might fill like M401 carts - you have to push up the inner cart with an unbent paperclip, fill, then use something to push the inner cart back down (with M401 I use a cart plug to do that)

I use an M401 as my main PV which is the normal version of M401. It's nice ecigarette if you are not looking for a hard hit - a unit with good flavor and a nice look and feel. This place doesn't have quite the best prices but is the only place I know where you can customize your kit colors. I got the gold atty because it goes with all of the battery colors and I also got a spare atty so i can alternate attys (use one while I am cleaning one weekly). I recommend the 401 size batteries becuase they are not huge - same size as a 110 cig but have the best battery life of the 3 sizes. And I recommend manual batteries for better control over your drag (and also because auto batteries can turn on by themselves in wind and vibration). And I love their black/gold batteries.
myPVshop Electronic Cigarettes - The M401 Electronic Cigarette

If you want an all white or all black kit, you can probably find a better price at Cignot, litecigusa.net or liberty-flights.com. And if you want an M401 PCC (I would wait to see if you happy with the unit), MyPvShop doesn't have the 401 PCC in stock but one of those other places probably does.

The M401 carts don't have foil on them - normal white stuffing which I replace with blue foam once it gets clumpy (after about 4-5 days of refilling the same cart). The initial carts that come with an M401 might be the old style (one flat side on the inner cart, harder to fill because the inner cart can't stand on its own and slips back into the outer cart on its own). So buy some other blank or filled carts for it. The blanks at MyPVShop should all be the newer style.

Or you could get the Sidesho but at least look at the M401.

As a newer vaping person (3-4 months) I would suggest the same as cskent go with a 510 kit and try the ce2 v4 cartomizers you can easily refill the cartomizer and I will say they are way better than a standard cartomizer. I changed to the ce2's about 3 weeks ago. I will also say that a lot is personal preference on ecigs but the 510 kit gives decent battery life as long as your not a heavy vapor like I am, and flavored juice is so much better to taste than a cig will ever be. Good luck on vaping.

A general suggestion is to check out some of the products from the ECF Suppliers area.
Forum Suppliers List

A good beginner kit, with two batteries, charger, for either the 510/Riva/eGo or KR808D-1 families of ecig can be bought for $30 - $40.

If you are a fairly light smoker, 1/2 pack a day or less, then a standard 510 type kit or a KR808D-1 can be quite nice, is roughly cigarette size. Personally I prefer the KR808D-1 in such a case, using automatic batteries (you inhale, they fire, no need to push a button), using prefilled cartomizers (combined atomizer that vaporizes the liquid and cartridge that stores it, in something that looks like a cigarette filter.).

If you go the 510 route, then manual batteries (ones with a little push button on the side) are by far the most frequent, and you generally need to fill your own right from the start. While filing a cartridge or a cartomizer isn't hard, it does add one more step to using ecigs.

People have given you suggestions of some good vendors. If you want to look at a KR808D-1 kit try vaporsetc.com (coupon code vapezone), or NHaler (saveinnj), or vapor4life (smilin, their VaporKing are KR808D-1).

Some people may chime in saying get a Riva 510 or an eGo. These really tend not to be needed by lighter smokers, look less cigarette-like (fatter batteries), but pricing right now is pretty good. You can get a full Riva 510 kit for $30, or an eGo kit for $40 at liberty-flights, and vapor-pure has a $24 Riva 510 kit (when he gets them back in stock).

Welcome!

My hubby did a lot of research and started with the KR808D-1 kits but quickly realized that the 501's are where it is at regardless of how much of a smoker you are....I would highly suggest finding a decent 501 starter kit, and if you don't want to bother with dripping or filling your own carts buy some prefilled flavored carotmizers.....we did that in teh beginning as well....but we are both hard core drippers now.....but I am sure as with what seems everyone else....your vaping needs will change as you become a more "educated" vaper.....welcome to the club and enjoy the better health!
