Who here vapes on a cigarette lookalike (name brand please?), and for how long have you been?

Who here started out on a cigarette lookalike but then 'upgraded' to a more sophisticated system? How long were you vaping on the lookalike before making the switch? (name brands, please?)

I've been vaping since June 15th, with the Green Smart Living cigarette lookalike system. I only started using them because they sell them at my local smoke shop and I like the convenience of that. I can buy however many cartridges I can afford at the moment, and I don't have to pay for or wait on shipping. I like the cartridges; I do NOT like the batteries.

In July I tried the V2 cigarette lookalike system - I liked the battery but not the cartridges.

My son says I should upgrade to an 'alien device' (his term for the more sophisticated systems, LOL!), but they seem a bit tricky to me. I like the ease of just screwing on a new cartridge.

I began vaping with a Volt cigalike rechargeable starter kit from Smokeless Image over a year and a half ago. I was able to stop smoking with these, but quickly grew tired of the short battery life and limited choice in juice attachments that I could use. After only 3 weeks using this setup, I skipped the ego stage and went straight to mods. I purchased both an AltSmoke BB and Silver Bullet.

clear&frosted-tank-1.jpgBB.jpg

With two mechanical mods I had replaceable rechargeable batteries that lasted much longer, and more choices in different juice devices for variety and larger juice capacity. I decided that performance was a priority over how close my battery resembled a cigarette. I decided that I am now vaping, not smoking, so I no longer needed to imitate the appearance of smoking. The cigalikes allowed me to determine if vaping was a solution to quit smoking, and they accomplished that, but there's better options available.

I found that cartotanks were an excellent juice delivery attachment, something that I couldn't use on a cigalike. Major improvement with these choices and I thought I was satisfied. Then I experienced someone else's variable voltage mod. I discovered one could improve a juice's flavor by adjusting the battery device's voltage.

I did a lot of researce and decided to go with the best available: a Provari. Now I could adjust the voltage to each flavor that I was using for a more fine-tuned vaping experience. It had a built-in ohm meter and battery voltage meter, which is extremely convenient. It cost a little more than some of the other devices and may not have as many "bells & whistles" features as other mods available, but it is so dependable, reliable, and indestructable that I feel it is worth it. Plus, I have peace of mind that the US manufacturer will repair it for as long as I own it. None of the other manufacturers (Chinese) offer that. ("We make cheap. You buy cheap. It break - you buy another.")

I've since purchased other mods meant to be used as a backup or for special circumstances (including a second Provari), but I still use my two Provari's 95% of the time. The focus lately has been experimenting with the different juice devices available today (including RBAs). I can't imagine going back to my cigalike days. The difference in convenience and satisfaction is night and day.

I used Greensmokes for a month until the tobacco shop ran out of carts and I had to look for an alternative - which led me to ECF and an upgrade to eGo/clearos.

I do like the size and simplicity of cigalikes, I just can't stand stand the taste of 'em anymore. I'd be interested if some new upgraded version of them appeared on the market.

I started with the V2 system. I used them for about a week till i discovered the ego. I then found out they make mini clearomizers for the V2. So in order to keep a long story short, I now always have a 510 threaded cigalike battery and a boge cartridge that i fill with my regular juices. The convenience when out and about is great. The size is also great if you ride (motorcycles of course). An ego is too heavy to hold in my mouth like a cigarette but a cigalike with a boge carto tastes almost exactly like my carto tanks and its small and convenient.

My daily carry consists of a vamo V3, k100, and ego twist mostly with cartomizer tanks.

started with convenience store brands(blu, njoy), researched on line and bought some Volt batteries(personally prefer the manuals) much better though than store ones; battery life, curiousity, and research led to variable voltage ego battery and 650 backup with evods (instead of refilling carts for volts throughout the day frequently)-that's where i am now and i'm eyeing up provaris and maybe eventually i'll feel secure enough to handle a mod, but not really in a rush since i'm happy so far with delivery system. I still use the volts too-i like them a lot especially for the small size and ability to carry around on me discreetly.

I started with Greensmoke cig-alikes and added Twists a week later because the Greensmoke battery charging drove me nuts. I got a much better vape with my Twists but I also got a great deal of psychological comfort from my cig-alikes so I happily used both. I then upgraded my Twists to VW gear which I wanted all along but it wasn't perfected when I started. A little after that Joye came out with the eRoll so I upgraded my Greensmokes to the eRoll. I'm still happily vaping using both a cig-alike as well as more powerful gear but it is worth noting that the better gear does produce a superior vape.

I started with a Blu but quickly grew tired of them. The batteries would die in as little as 30 minutes and within a week one of them would no longer charge at all.

I switched to a Halo G6 which is still a cigalike but I'm actually pretty happy with it. I ordered a manual and an automatic battery with my starter kit to see which I like best and I found I like the manual best but still want an automatic when I'm driving. I did not especially care for the Halo clearomizers but really like the low-resistance cartomizers you can order with the starter kit.

I may eventually switch to something with more battery life but right now I really prefer it to feel more like a cigarette. We'll see when I've been off analogs for a few months.

Started out with V2's, vaped on those for about 2 months, then picked up an 900ma ego style, and ordered a twin 1300ma ego kit from price angles for $19 using a Protank. In then researched the vv mods, and decided on a Provari start kit with the Protank II, batteries and charger, and ordered a third battery, so that I have 3 in rotation. Ah Provari, sorry had to have a vape of my Super Skunk juice. I am now awaiting delivery of The Russian re-buildable atomizer, should be hear tomorrow, and an I-Atty Zen clone from Fasteck, should be here in a couple of weeks. So I've been vaping now for a little over 4 months, analog free the whole time, and will be building my first coil tomorrow, and a genesis coil in the not to distant future. Also have some SS mesh and wire coming, in anticipation for my genesis and to try the SS mesh coil on my protanks. Also awaiting delivery of some more juice, Vanilla Tobacco, Whiskey, and Wacky Tobacky . Gave my 900ma ego to a fellow employee, since he only had a 650 ego, and he's getting me an Iclear 30, in payment for the battery.

I'm almost identical to AndreaR a few posts above. I tried Blu twice yrs ago-hated it. Did research, great reviews on Halo. Ordered G6 in auto and manual kit. (I prefer manual) Loved it but wanted more than cartos. Ordered mini tanks for it, loved it more.

Within one week, ordered Halos Triton w/larger tanks. I still use all of them. G6 w/mini tanks is more of a cig a like and perfect when going out. Triton for home use or heavy vape nights. Triton now has VV...hhhhmmmmmmmm, this is getting expensive!

The alien devices are not so tricky to learn how to use. Simply watching a You Tube video of the device you are interested in generally gives you all the information that you need to be successful with them.

An Ideal Starter Setup for a Beginning Vapor

The above link shows an ideal ego battery system that has the option for variable voltage. You don't have to use that option, but it's nice to have it should you decide to use it later. It allows you to adjust the vapor to whatever flavor you are using for fullest flavor. The link has video demonstrations on the battery and a few juice delivery attachments.
____

Another "alien device" would be stepping up to a mod. Ideal for a novice would be the Innokin iTaste MVP. This has a built-in rechargeable battery which can last 2 - 3 days between charges. You can continue to use it as a "pass through" while it is charging. It also has the variable voltage option. You can even charge your cell phone with it. These work well with cartomizers, but even better with clearomizers, which are even simpler to fill and use.

I was given an NJoy King for my birthday. It didn't taste good but it "felt" enough like smoking a cigarette to persuade me to investigate further.

Next up was a GreenSmoke kit. It worked OK but their stuff is overpriced and I quickly started looking around for a more affordable option.

Then there was a Halo G6 kit with two manual batteries. In short order, I added three more batteries, extra chargers, low-resistance cartomizers and "mini-tank" clearomizers. The system worked pretty well and got me off cigarettes for good. I added a Triton (a single unit, not the full kit) for vaping at home.

As often happens with cig-alike users, I got tired of constantly swapping batteries and cartos and looked around for something that offered a little more juice/battery capacity while retaining a small (smaller than an eGo) form factor. I bought a Kanger E-smart pen-style kit and that's what I'm still using now after adding a third battery, another charger and a bunch more clearos. The E-smart gives me a little more run time and vapes better (IMO) than the G6. I intend to get a bigger PV to use at home - the Kanger Evod is tempting me right now - but I'll retain the E-smart for my backup and "night on the town" system (it's an elegant-looking little package).

I've also got a VV 510/eGo passthrough for use at home. Works great.

One last thing about cig-alikes: there are still times when they would come in handy (being able to puff away while playing my guitar would be nice) and the E-roll looks awfully tempting for that purpose. Maybe someday.

Thank you to everyone who has responded! It's been very educational!

Baditude - Thank you so much for that link to the Vision Spinner tutorial YouTube video! Easy to follow, newbie friendly; it helped make the 'alien devices' seem a lot less intimidating!

AndysPrincess - I don't ride motorcycles, actually, though I have had many think I do because of my username. The only thing I 'ride' is my Quickie QM710 (motorized wheelchair)! :D
