Are you building the coil higher off the deck and then pushing it down? That's really strange. Never had a coil move more than a mm or less, let alone as high as you are explaining.

Nope, after threading the leads I lay the coil on the deck snug the screws wick it and raise the coil about the thickness of my paperclip.

If my cap is VERY tight, I will typically knacker my coil when I pull the cap off. When I use the cap from the IGo-f on the cyclone base, ( super tight fit) I will kill the coil EVERY time I pull it off.

Lube your rings or remove one and see if the problem persists.
Cheers

I tried this. I pulled the cap off about 20 times and this is most likely the cause both caps were very tight tonight. I did get one to do it and it was very close to what I seen originally. Instead of pulling straight off, I was pulling at an angle to. Thanks Much.

I actually made a thread about that same thing happening to me in the "coil builds" forum.

It was deduced that it happens when the wire was not annealed prior to wrapping. Since I went back to annealing before wrapping it hasn't happened.

Notice how the wire dances / bends when you anneal it. Well that same thing is happening when you fire it I guess :)

I use a little torch but a bic lighter works just fine. I just run it along the length of the wire, wrap the coil, cut the wire and mount it into the RBA. Then fire, stop firing, run my mandrel thru a few times (to alleviate hot legs) fire again to observe the hot legs magically disappeared then wick and vape like the freak I am :)

I run 29 ga.

I pull my cap off all the time and have never had the coil move on me. Then again I anneal my wire before every re-coiling also... Just ordered some new ready-X-wick so I can try out the 27g that my bro sXd sent me... I need to get a piece of 1/16" music wire for my home made artistic wire gizmo so I can get back to doing micro's again. The .055 is just too small for me to get the ceramic through...
