Not only increased discomfort, volume and duration.... but my ankles/feet have started swelling as well!
I have found many articles supporting vast quantities of milk as the calcium and Vit. D in our diets is lacking... I tried it - helps tremendously! I rarely have soda or excess sugar / salt - drink about 36-48 oz of water daily
I started vaping almost a year ago, and was at standard bases of 80/20 and 70/30 @ 24 nic - I'm fairly settled on a 50/50 40/60 @ 18 nic.... I "think" the nic's a little low for me, but who knows, I chain like a fiend so prolly should leave it there, lol

Well, here I am headed into round #2 after quitting! Since I was 5 days late last time..have no flippin idea how to calculate this round's dates...from the actual start date or from the original start date regardless of the fact I was late. Any opinions?
Interesting note on the Vitamin D - I've recently increased my intake dramatically. I also faithfully take Airborne every day. For the energy boost - it's great!

So far so good - just as luck would have it I'm traveling to Dallas next week - gone 5 days and she is due (if calculated from the day of actual start) smack in the middle of my away time. Texas. Hot. Flo. away from home....I am beyond hoping everything goes better this time around and I do not end up so sick. Will be taking Ceyenne (sp) and taking note of nearest place for COLD COLD milk....tons of water. Funnily will also be in the middle of about 15,000 pumped up women at a convention - as muleygirl so commented - here's to hoping there's not a silver bullet with my name on it out there! Will apporach it in the most unarmed manner possible :D So far, it seems better - I'm keeping my fingers crossed for sure.

You should calculate from the first day when your period starts.
I have read that the time between that first day of menstruation until you ovulate can vary in length (first half of cycle) but it's always 14 days from the time you ovulate until your period starts.
That's depending on whether or not you're ovulating every month of course.

I've also been doing a lot of reading about perimenopause - because I believe that at 43 this is what I am going through (my period DID finally show up and it's worse than any I've ever had before as far as how heavy it is.)
Apparently from what I've read about it all it can be the lack of progesterone as you get older (35 and up) that can cause heavy periods and bad PMS.
I'm contemplating purchasing some of the progesterone cream to try.

I'm willing to try anything at this point because I really feel like I'm going a bit crazy hormonally.

Really? I mentioned I took Progesterone shots as an exclusive form of BC for so many years. To be honest I've been entertaining doing it again just to avoid having a period all together. Didn't know about the cream..but then again - exactly what other forms of BC are there for a girlie in her 40s? Seems to me like kill two bird with one stone as long as my age isnt a deterrent for the shot with other complications...hmmm perhaps I should google that huh?

So what is crazy hormonally to you..if I might ask...and if you would be so kind as to elaborate!

I have a feeling that the progesterone shots you were having are very different to the progesterone creams? The creams are not a birth control method from what I understand.
I'll be honest ,I'm totally new at looking into all of this hormonal stuff so I'm not exactly sure how it all works - each of the hormones involved, but this is the cream I am thinking of getting. ProFeme® Progesterone Cream for Women

I've also joined the Power Surge forums to try and educate myself more about perimenopause but thus far have only been able to read there as for some reason I can't post to ask questions.
Here's the link if you're interested. Loads of information there.

Hormonally crazy? Hmm, lol!
ok....

Complete lack of libido - I mean, totally :(
Thinning hair
Depression
Anxiety
Palpitations
Cravings for sweet things when I was always a savoury cravings type of person - especially when my period is due (I'm like a chocolate devouring monster!)
Night sweats
Heavy - and now it seems irregular periods
Emotionally a mess when my period is due.
Besides all that I just don't feel like 'myself" anymore. I feel old before my time. Not sure who I am now or who I am becoming and I don't LIKE this person I am right now.

Ummmm, yeah sounds like perimenopause to me. Have you been to see your doctor? They can do a blood test for your FSH levels. Don't let anyone tell you you're too young to be going through it. That's hogwash. I started way younger than you.

My doctor is a hormone specialist, I actually took HRT for a year, he would have let me stay on it longer if I wanted. His feeling was that my body should have been producing estrogen much longer ordinarily, so replacing it wouldn't be an issue for a few years. A year was long enough though. I felt pretty good when I stopped. Still do.

I've been to see two doctors and when I suddenly developed thyroid problems, a thyroid specialist too, all of whom checked my hormone levels and told me the same thing - "There's nothing wrong with your hormones."
I don't quite understand how thorough this hormone test they do is but whatever it is I'm pretty sure it's not very accurate, lol!
The FSH is follicle stimulating hormone? Which to my understanding means they can tell whether or not you ovulated THAT particular month?
I have to wonder what that proves?
I KNOW I am not ovulating every month, so if it happened by chance that I DID those particular months doesn't necessarily mean that everything is in perfect balance? Does it?
Surely as you go through perimenopause it's a gradual thing where some months you may ovulate and others you wont?

I actually got into an argument with the last doctor I saw - a female doctor (who I thought would be more understanding )
I said to her "Surely women don't just wake up one day and they are menopausal? Surely it's a process, like puberty, a gradual thing where hormone levels fluctuate and get out of whack for a while?
You know what her answer was... "Yes they do! I've seen women who wake up one day and never ever again menstruate!"
I was astounded. It seemed like such a petty comeback.
Even more astounded when I had queried her about the flushing in my face (and really I was trying to figure out the allergic reaction to the VG I was vaping at the time - NOT anything hormonal) and she said...."Oh you can get flushing in your face from your girlie hormones (she said that!). You just have to deal with it!"
I ended up in tears in that particular doctors office when after all that she started going on about me "wasting my money on alternative therapies" when I dared to venture a question about the progesterone creams.

I've just about lost all faith in doctors.
I KNOW my body is going through changes and this is not all in my head, but so far all these doctors have done is make me feel like some stupid hysterical woman!

Hey, sounds like you've had a rough time. I think you need to go find yet another doctor. Yes, FSH is folical stimulating hormone. My levels were quite low (or high, don't remember now, but definitely not within normal parameters) when, coincidentally, they were checked when I had my TSH checked for suspected hypothyroidism. I'm not a medical professional, so take this all with a grain of salt, but I think it's the LH (luteinizing hormone) that determines if you're ovulating and that in conjunction with your FSH can give an indication if you're in the early stages of menopause.

The gynecologist (I went to her because I had a lot of the symptoms you're experiencing now, and my mother and one sister both went through menopause by the time they were 45) who initially ordered the tests sounds a lot like your last wacko doctor, but she did recommend that I see a primary care doctor to have my thyroid levels checked again. My husband, being the bright man that he is, talked me into seeing an endocrinologist. Makes sense, when you're dealing with hormones go to an expert. He redid the tests and we decided based on the results of those tests and my other symptoms that I was probably peri-menopausal, soon to be menopausal. When I went back to my gynecologist she told me that those tests aren't meaningful and that my endocrinologist had no idea what he was talking about. Needless to say, I found another gynecologist.

Joke was on her, four years later I'm in 10 1/2 months without a period. I've been here before, 3 years in a row. I've been going 8 months without and 4 months with. But things feel different this time, and I suspect that I've seen my last period.

All in all my symptoms probably lasted 8 years, if I think back to when they really started. Now I'm 45 and it looks like I'll be in full menopause before my 46th birthday.

Yes, from what I've read some do just wake up one day and never have another period. Most don't.

My advice? Find an endocrinologist associated with a gynecological practice, as mine is, who specializes in reproductive medicine. The test results won't be conclusive, but it's a starting point.

:)

See thanks to Mustang Sallie...you DID get some awesome advice! Sallie - luv your new pic - you look so pretty!

I hope I dont offend anyone by saying this - I'm not yet experiencing alot of this stuff, but sucking up all of the knowledge just the same and I'm really very grateful and I appreciate the sharing of all of the information. I just have thru the roof PMS and so nauseated and cramps are so painful. It's enough that it made me think about getting the shot just to avoid it. I was on the shot for BC for probably..wow 14 years? Long time..I was getting it from a doc way before it was ever widely promoted for BC. When I finally stopped..it took 3 years for things to get back to normal. Last month being 5 days late - first time in forever. I'm like clockwork.

Thanks Sallie, and Blue :)
The thing that I'm realising is that it appears that many doctors over here completely pooh pooh the idea of "perimenopause" or are just totally ignorant.
It seems, from their perspective, that there are only two states of being for a woman. You're either menstruating or you're not.

I saw a professor of Endocrinology. He couldn't give me a reason for why I ended up with a hyperactive thyroid - dismissed stress or hormonal issues, whereas I've since read otherwise. Seems to me that during perimenopause and menopause many women have problems with their thyroid. Coincidence or what?

I'm just not going to be one of those people that walks into a doctors surgery and takes what they say as Gospel anymore.
I'm suspicious of many of their answers to menopause.
My mother had fibroids so they ripped her uterus, ovaries, everything out!
When I asked her why they removed her ovaries she said the doctor said "May as well take them out now in case you end up getting ovarian cancer."
I couldn't believe they said that! It's like...."well, while we're in here......"

I'm also wary about HRT. Not just because of all the scare mongering that goes on regarding breast cancer etc but because I've read things about estrogen dominance and how HRT can worsen or mask this.

I don't know. I'm floundering in a sea of information at the moment.
All I really want is my sex drive and my hair back! lol!

I'm updating in the hopes of encouraging women reading this thread. Lifestyle modifications made all the difference in the world for me apparently. This time around, the week before only 1 really emotional day - but not angry emotion. Otherwise, I feel better than I have in probably..wow..10 years? I am pretty happy to say zero PMS and maybe 10% discomfort. I don't even recognize myself! Along with quitting analogs - increased water and recently to about 100oz/day - natural sugars only. Cut out candy, soda and snack foods completely. I have been walking about 60-90 mins per day (2 intervals w/pooch) and this last week started back in on yoga and stretching. I hit my 2 month mark 08/07!!

When I get back from a week long travel - I'm taking measurements. If I can accomplish this...I can dissolve the rest of the weight and get back to the girlie I haven't seen in so long!

I cannot believe what a change my life has undertaken - and all because I quit analogs and starting VAPING. UNREAL!!!

I never thought candy and pop might make it worse...well if I could quit the cigs maybe the sugar can go. Crap...I really love candy! Alot!
Thanks for the tip blue8091. So you didn't feel the need to carry an axe? Hopefully this time next month there will be no jaws music playing when I'm around. I'm sick of people running and hiding till I've left the room. Though I might still pretend when my mother comes over!

I should have mentioned that I now VAPE candy flavors...:D I found some Jolly Rancher flavors I like...and Hot Cinnamon or any flavor mixed with cinnamon - my all day vape!! It seems to satisfy the cravings! Plus if I really want something - I'll just have a small amount and move on - but the sweet vapes really help me. HaHaHa @ jaws music and ppl running until you've left the room....

Now the heat is another story - and an axe is a GREAT idea - especially for those who always seem so fresh and composed and the heat index is 120.......

I hope this next part isn't TMI, but the one thing that has done wonders for both the length of my period and the pain is to stop using tampons. Some people switch to pads, but they drive me nuts so I got a Diva Cup. I understand this isn't a solution for everyone, but for me it has really helped. Not to mention it is so much more convenient. I don't ever have to run to the store in the middle of the night anymore, or make sure I carry an extra with me all the time. Just sayin'.

I've been using the Diva cup for years. Love it. Discovering the Diva cup was almost as much a revelation to me as vaping has been.

So I've been vaping for a little over a month, still smoked a few analogs the first few weeks, but haven't had any this past week and a half. I had been smoking up to 2 ppd. My period came this week and holy cow! No pain, but it's like my uterus decided to shed every cell it had ever created, and washed it all out with gallons of blood! Sorry for the graphics, but with the Diva cup it's easy to be very aware and conscious of exactly what-all is happening that it's almost fascinating.

With the heat, I haven't been exercising, and lack of exercise often makes my period heavier. I'm probably also not drinking as much water as I should be, although I'm definitely drinking a lot. Caffeine intake is probably the same as ever. The biggest change is not smoking 30-40 cigarettes a day.

I currently have a bladder infection-cystitis, UTI. I haven't had one of these in about 15 years. Ouch! I'm six weeks into vaping-no analogues since about day 3 of vaping. Coincidence or does the dehydrating effects of vaping have anything to do with it? I am also going through menopause and still having periods. This came on this week right after my period ended. I drink two cups of coffee a day and down to two diet cokes per day also. I have also been doing some sweet tea because of the hot weather. I'm trying to drink at least a couple of glasses of water each day too. I tend to chain vape especially at night in front of my computer. Anyone else experience cystitis soon after starting vaping? I don't want to blame the vaping if it's just a concidence. I love vaping!

I read that if you consume a lot of caffeine it negates all the extra water you drink as caffeine is very dehydrating.
I'd try and cut back on some of your caffeine and drink more water if I were you.
I'm no expert but it seems likely that if urine is concentrated and not being emptied regularly it may very well be able to harbour more bacteria?
