I am fairly new to all this so I have a question. I first started off with using boge cartomizers. They worked pretty good, felt like the flavor was muted though. I then bought some Phoenix top coils and some clearomizers. On the phoenix I have had several problems. I took off the silicon ring from the coil and tried modifying the cutouts for the wicks, I have tried cutting the wicks. The reason I did this was simply because if I just filled and tried to vape I was getting so many dry hits. If I hit it and let it sit on its side for 3 or 4 minutes then I could vape again, but if I did not do this I would get dry hits. When I cut out the slits more I would get more leakage into the top part of the tube. I actually tore up 2 of the phoenix top silicon plugs taking them out so much trying to remedy this situation. I thought I would try the vision clearomizers. They did work better than the Phoenix, but if those wicks aren't completely submerged they also go dry very easily. I am letting them sit sideways so they stay good and wet when not completely full. My juices are not to thick. One is from backwoods brew and the other is gorilla juice from Alien Visions, but the Alien visions I have thinned down with Pure grain alcohol, so it is pretty thin. Is this normal for vaping. I just assumed it was not, but maybe I am wrong. I have heard of people chain vaping and guess you could with a dripping atomizer. The boge cartomizers actually worked better for me just a pain to have to keep pulling the top off so often and adding more juice. Not safe if you are driving.
Thanks

Have the provari loaded with a 2.6 ohm Phoenix running at 4.0 volts. Have the gripper loaded with a 2.6 ohm running at 4 volts. I have both loaded beside me. If I try to use just one PV have to wait about 5 or 6 minutes between hits or it will be dry. Can only hit it once or twice then it goes burnt tasting. I have tried lowering the voltages, but still will get dry hits.

Wow, I have a stardust reading 2.2 ohm and I'm vaping at 4.8 v and I can't get a dry hit if I try. Granted, these are long wicks but I have a few short wicks too and if I get them wet just by tilting, I can get at least a few hits before tilting again. This on a YJ Chrome Lavatube. I don't have even a guess at this one.

Out of 8 pheonix bc I have 1 with thick juice that floods and 1 with thin juice that gives dry hits (lol, should be the other way around). Have you tried all 5 from the pack? Can you see bubbles rising from the wick area? Have you tried small draw without firing the atomizer?

oops...you were talking about top coils. Have not tried those. I am a chain vaper too so I keep 5 battery/carto combinations going in rotation.

Norman, Ok
Just so you can be clearer about what you are talking about...

Vision is a company not a model of a product, they make several different models of carto's and tanks.

On the Phoenix.... currently there are 3 models, the XL bottom coil, a 3ml bottom coil and a XL top coil.. they each have different characteristics.

I am pretty much a chain vaper, I go through probably 10 to 15 mil a day. What I found that works best for me is boge or smoktech xl cartos in a 5 ml tank. The holes I punch in the cartos depends on how thick my juice is and I only punch one hole, I have never had one dry out, I have more of a problem flooding. I just got 2 Vivi Nova 3 mil tanks with rebuildable heads and so far they are working like a champ. No dry hits. With the problems being reported on this site with boge and smokteck cartos I will probably go with the Vivi Novas even though they are only 3 ml.

oh, to answer the question, I have not noticed bubbles coming from the wicks much. Every now and then I will see a little bubble. On the phoenix I had tried earlier in the set, where I had gone in and cut the silicon cup out a little more for the wicks I noticed more bubbles and did not dry as bad, but it would get alot more juice under the drip tip and I would end up sucking it in. Like I said I tore up the first 2 phoenix by taking that top silicon cap off so many times and trying to alter things. I was wanting to try to get some life out of one of them after paying for them. So was trying to leave this one as stock.

Ahh, stardusts. Yeah. The letting them sit on their sides is exactly right. This is my preferred carto when lounging, but not so much for sitting upright. The thing about these is that you just have to get in the habit of tilting and rolling them every few drags just like you used to flick your ashes on cigarettes. If you are getting good hits to start then stardust use is mostly a matter of slightly adjusting your vaping habits. Also, if it's the replaceable one where you can easily get to the head, make sure the silicone cap isn't compressing the wick overly much. Some people have notched that, but I've not needed to.

Actually, come to think about it, tilting is pretty well standard on ALL top coil wicked products. So it may help your to coil phoenix as well. Yiu've got to remember, these just aren't like fillered cartos where the juice is conveniantly situated right on the coils. You may have better luck with the bottom coils (though they have to be filled with syringes), or with the stallions which are mildly fillered.

Yeah, this is to me the Key to a Top Coil wicking at it's Best.

If I take a Hit with the Battery end of my PV pointed down, all the e-Liquid is at the Bottom of the Carto. One hit is about the amount of e-Liquid held by the wick. The next hit will be a Dry Hit because the wick isn't Fully Saturated.

But if I "Tilt" the Battery end of my PV up WHILE taking a hit, the e-Liquid is Pooled around the Wick and Seal Slots. The wick doesn't Dry Out and hence, No Dry Hits.

I tell people to try "Tilting" Before they do any Mods to the Seals. 80% of the time there is No Need to do Anything else but Tilt While taking a Hit.

Of course, the Direct Opposite is True for a Bottom Coil. You want the e-Liquid Pooled around the Wick/Seal Slots when you take a hit. So you "Tilt" the PV Down while hitting on it.

I like the tilting...one of the things I loved when smoking was the action of it all...I am kind of hyper and the action of smoking kept my hands busy..draw...flick and tap. So the action of tilting the pv has filled that void of action with my hands that I was missing. I just tilt it up and back after every draw and it works.

Yeah, I can only add to the above: tilt, tilt, tilt. With a Stardust, make sure that one of the wicks is always in the juice while you are vaping. By the time it's half-empty, I'm holding it just below horizontal (you really don't want to hold it upside-down). I never, ever get dry hits with them, and I only use short wicks.
