Question on Xtar MC1 Portable Charger Power Source

Hello all, quick question in this little guy. It will charge a cell at up to .5 amps, and the input markings by the micro USB states that amount. The unit does not come with a wall adapter.

So here's what most certainly a dumb question, but what the hey. Can I use a regular cellphone wall wart as a power source, even though it's outputting a full amp or more? I know normally with electronic devices they just take the current they need, so you can charge either a cellphone or a tablet with a 2a tablet charger. Does the same apply here, or do I need to make sure this charger is getting fed exactly .5a or thereabouts from the wall/computer USB/etc.

Replies are much appreciated, my apologies in advance for my ignorance.
