Sorry if this has been asked before. I have searched the forum for days and can not find anything about this.

I bought a bottle of TFA Bittersweet Chocolate and when I opened it up the smell just about knocked me out. It smells just like a bottle of fingernail polish acetone. Is it supposed to smell like this or do you think I got a bad batch?

I tried leaving the top off for a few days and my whole house smelled like the acetone. I tried mixing a drop of it in some pg/vg 50/50 to see how it tasted and all I can taste is the acetone. BUT... when it dried on the napkin I used to wipe off the pipette it smelled heavenly. I'm just not sure about this bottle.

I haven't used this specific flavor, but sounds about right for the other similar flavors I've tried from TFA, including their Milk Chocolate. The tend to have a nastily overpowering chemical flavor, and the only way to get past it is to use sparingly (flavor lightly and build up if needed) and steep well - I never vape these flavors within a month of mixing). The ones I've had similar experiences are anything like chocos, caramels, coffees, even some vanilla type flavors have that same quality. Hope this helps!

I have that one. Have had it for quite a while. No acetone smell, but it does smell strange. I use 1 ml with .25 ml vanilla, to 10 ml unflavored, with some sweetener. I do like it, especially when it has steeped for a while. This one has been promoted to cartotank status. Try it and see what you come up with. If it is still bad, you might have indeed gotten a bad batch.

Thanks for the replies.

Megs I have the other flavors you talked about and nothing has this acrid smell that the bittersweet chocolate has. I only let it steep for a week with no favorable results. The smell was still as strong a week later as it was the day I mixed it. Maybe a longer (month or more) steep is what it needs.

0mg Meniere I did mix it at 5% and maybe that was just too strong for this flavor. I'm gonna try it at .5% and let it steep for a loooong time to see if that helps. I really want to like this flavor. It smelled promising when it dried and I think it would be wonderful if I can figure out the percentage/steep or if it is a bad batch.

Meanwhile, I think I'm going to contact TFA directly and ask them about the smell/taste of this bottle. I did buy it from them. Hopefully they can shed some light on the problem. I'll post back when I know more.
