first post on ecf, been lurking for a while, but now i'm going all in, so to speak. i'm currently vaping a magneto with a smok rda (the caterpillar). i've got a 0.3 ohm dual coil, and it is chuckin' the vapor. the guys at my local vape shop recommended the cana mod after i mentioned that i easily go through 3 or 4 18650s a day. my question is, is it worth the money to upgrade to a box mod, like the cana? will my battery life significantly increase? ps i know that i would have to build a higher resistance coil on the cana, which i'm fine with.

Depends how much you vape , three or four 18650's in a day , wow . The only device i use that can last multiple days of non stop vaping is the MVP but thats not what you want for the builds your using.

Depends on what the amp rating and mAH ratings are listed at , variables come in as well like how much vaping and what your builds are. My Cana last about 3/4 of a day on a 2100 Sony and i rarely do high wattage , mostly from 9 -15 watts and i vape on and off.

Ohms law is what it all adds up to. If you do not change your coil, and all other variables are constant the battery life will not change. The difference between the two devices (the one you have and the one your looking at) is one is regulated and one is not. The mechanical gives the coil its full power that it has available as it discharges...you should notice that as the battery dies, you vapor production will be less if the draw time and intensity is not changed.

The cana can heat up a higher ohm coil better than a mechanical because it will increase the voltage to the coil, heating it up just as well. With the coil your running, i would imagine that 30 watts would actually result in a decrease in performance....I did not do the math, but if you figure 3.8ish volts at that ohm, the wattage drawn by the mech is probably more....dont have calculator right now. Where as if you put a 1.0 or 1.5ish ohm coil on there, 30 watts will heat it quickly. Good vapor production and possibly longer lasting...again refer to ohms law and if you did the calculations you could find how much is being drawn versus what the mechanical is drawing.

So without changing the coil, I do not think you will get what you are trying to do achieved. It will fall short either on vapor production/performance most likely. If however you build a higher ohm coil, you can probably get it to your liking.

Ok, i think that what i remember and posted there is correct....please do some calculations and you will see.

I would like to chime in on this. With my mechs I normally go through three bats a day also. My mechs I run at .2 to .3 ohms. Now on my authentic Hana V3 I run .4 to .7s and the bats last roughly five hours. I stay above 25 watts mostly. That being said, I get the same bat life if I go around 1.1 ohms and 25+ watts, normally only see a diff in battery life on the Hana when I drop under 20 watts.

Did you ever consider a dual or triple 18650 mechanical box mod?

Not trying to put down your suggestion or anything, but I want to give a little advice on those DIY boxes being sold all over. IMO I would call or email them and make sure they are using a MOSFET or an appropriately rated switch. I had a buddy buy one because he was impatient ( Not that guys, but a different one made the same way. ) advertised for being able to handle super low ohms. He had the switch burn out and melt on him on the second day. They used a 3 amp anti-vandal switch. At just .2 you're breaking into 20 amps, food for thought. Just a thought of caution, and again, not downing the maker of that particular box. Just wouldn't hurt to make sure.

Honestly, I can't recommend any I've looked around but, haven't done much research yet, since I'm not sure if I can carry and hold a box mod comfortably.

If I was to get one I'd try to research this one it comes with or without a volt meter display

It wasn't really a suggestion for that maker I said I hadn't researched yet but if I decided on a mech box mod I'd research that one. But I don't see what you said as a put down.

Aye, just a cautionary tale. Those and the dual boxes of the same type are popping up all over. Not hard to tell why. It's easy to soldier wire to contacts and toss a nice 510 connector on a box, but scary if they don't give specifics. I'm the type that will do my research for a week or two and make damn sure, just for my piece of mind lol.

On a side note:
Now this is cool ( IMO ). I just don't care for the USB part of it. Oak & Aluminium USB Chargeable Mod

That's why I haven't went for a box mod yet, I'm trying to find a reputable company or person who builds them. But, the box is on hold since I need to get my hands on rare mods first to collect or flip for a profit.

I wasn't aware that these existed, but I would be careful with using a dual or triple battery mod that isn't regulated. You would need a much higher resistance coil to stay within your batteries power output rating.
that's why i was looking at the cana. i want a regulated mod, as i have never had one. i went from an ego twist to a magneto. i've also never had a box mod (no mvp for me haha), so a cana seemed like the best route. but sense i vape so heavily, i was wondering if there was a better regulated box mod, like a vaporshark dna30 and such.
