So far so great with my DIY adventures but trying to figure out a robust vanilla recipe has me wondering some things.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around figuring percentages for a mix. I would think that if you find a flavor on its own to be good at a certain %, you would step back the % a bit when mixing with other flavors, but I'm still questioning this. For instance, I'm trying to use FW Madagascar Vaniila in this vanilla recipe, but on its own I've found it needs to be around 12% to taste any flavor (I know more steeping will help this though). So when I mix it with other flavors, does it do any good to use it at less than 12% if that's how much I need to taste it on its own?

Which brings me to the next question.
Do you have a flavor percentage ceiling which you won't go above? I've seen recipes as high as 20% flavoring but I'm wondering if anything higher might be too much flavoring to vape? I know we're all guinea pigging this thing but I thought I'd ask. Going back to this Madagascar Vanilla, if I use it at 12%, I'm looking at total % of over 20% with the other mixed flavors which is giving me pause.

As for steeping, I know vanillas generally need long steeps. How long should I wait until making a decision on whether the %'s are right? I always do 2 warm bath soaks with shaking but I'm sure that's not enough.

Thanks for any input!

If you make your Vanilla and like it at 12% and as and example want to add it to Cinnamon Roll, which you also like at 12%. Lets say you combine them (each juice you made on it's own) 1/2 and 1/2, the resulting mixture would 6% of each flavor. If your not sure, you can make each flavor on it's own to your liking. Then try combining in different ratios to give you an idea on the ratio you want to use in your finished mix.

When I'm making more complex mixes I use a higher percentage of flavor than I usually would if making a single flavor. If I used as in my example 12% of each, I wouldn't use 24% but would probably end up with a little more than 12% (but I might also end up with 8% of one 4% of the other). It's really dependent on the flavors and your own personal taste.

I try to keep my flavoring to 20-25% (absolute tops) for more complex mixes and probably closer to between 8-12% on 1 or 2 ingredient mixes. Here again it depends on what flavor company your using (some more concentrated, some less) and your own personnel taste. :toast:

Cheers,
Steve
