So recently i've been given a clone of something called a dotmod petri rta,and i've managed to install the coils (first build and it's a postless deck so yeah had a hard time lolz)
When i first started to use it,the 0hms were reading at about .23,but after a couple vapes it went down to .18. My question is: knowing that it's probably normal to have a slight drop down in 0hms (correct me if i'm wrong) but i have no clue about the specs of the coils themselves so i've been running it at 55-60 watts on both a single and dual 18650 battery mods is that okay or should i change something ? Flavor's pretty good tbh with my twelve monkey ejuice and besides a couple issues with the thing itself mainly leaking i've only had 1 instance where my mod became hotter than usual..... Stopped using it immediately and used my dual batt mod.Since then i've retried my single which works fine now. Here's a link to one of the "cloned models" it's not that exact one but only the packaging was different.

Follow your link and scroll down to discussions, they have some good tips. FT has some decent forums. As far as the coils go, why don't you just recoil it with wire and a build you are familiar with? Lovely tank by the way. Does your Ω go back up to .23 when coil has cooled?

The link i used is not the original one (it's mainly one of the probable many clones) i don't own wire nor a coilmaster tool kit (or any toolkit for that matter) and no it stayed at .18 ever since so i'm guessing heating it up caused it and vaping stabilised the coils. I didn't thought i'd get an rta before next month which is when i planned to get everything needed with a serpent smm. I just couldn't pass on a free rta that nice lolz(vapes quite nicely too tbh)

Coils were already rolled so i used whatever tools i had at home to do it all (mainly 2 screwdriver, one to put the coils in place and another for the grubscrews on the deck) a cheap wire cutter and pliers).

Did you get an even glow before wicking and vaping?
nope followed a youtube guide, but like i said it vapes great still,my question was more on the 0hms vs wattage part. i know how to gauge on a drop in coil but not on a rta xD (even my big baby rba had "recomended wattage")

In an RTA, or any tank, wire resistance increases with heating. You're getting the opposite, which makes me think you've got a connection problem. I would check and tighten the grub screws. I also can't tell from your your reply to @Letitia if you did or did not heat and dry burn the coil before use. It's sort of a good idea to assure your have no hot spots or leads.

The leaking issue, for me, took some time to correct. Just takes patience and practice. I like my tails to sit over the troughs on each side, slightly trailing into them but not really covering the juice intake holes. If you don't cover the troughs enough, though, watch out. The other step to take immediately after fill is replace Topcap and flip upside down and allow air to ride around the juice intakes and reduce the built up pressure. Keep a paper towel below the Driptip and clean excess juice that flows through.

Even without an Ohms reader, QC, you can fire coils on your mod prior to wicking it to check for hot spots, connection problems, etc. With a postless deck, that may be your issue, you may want to try one of the other coils and fire it first, to see what kind of resistance you get compared to the other coil (if there are two in the set). Then, if it's okay, wick it.

If your mod is getting hot, either there's something going on with your coil, or you need less wattage, which can sometimes be tough with very low resistance coils to get a satisfying vape. If you are planning on getting another RTA, this might be the time to think about learning to build coils from scratch. I haven't used a postless deck, so I'm not of much help there, I'm afraid.

@QcVaper After rereading your previous post, Did you by chance use the coils that came with the rta? Those things, probably fused claptons, take a bit of care to fire evenly. Without the wick, dry burn them and strum the coils lightly and evenly from side to side. If you only have a small screw driver or such, be sure to release fire button just before strumming. You can strum while firing with ceramic tipped tweezers (works best for me). I believe the goal to is oxidize the metal surfaces along the wire that contact each other. Those types of coils are riddled with hotspots until properly prepped.

Sorry people but the postless deck proved to be too much for me =/
I went back to my big baby rba, while i wait to get me a serpent which is called "one of the most noob friendly and forgiving rta" i'll keep the thing around for whenever i really start rebuilding but for now postless was a bit too frustrating for me,also the fact i have to unscrew the 510 everytime i wanna access the deck and adjust 100 things at once was too much atm. Even if the coils were not checked (i usually do check hotspots and dry fire on my baby rba) they still provided a hell of a nice flavor and clouds for days at like 60 watts,so it's a good one imo but i was too frustrated to try again with it for now.

Sorry to hear that, but I too got frustrated on what I call my 1st grownup RBA which was a Lush, then I bought a Tsunami with a velocity style deck and loved it. I bought a coil master kit and a couple of RTA tanks and just kept practicing on coil build and wicking. Now I feel as if I could build coils in my sleep, but I'm not making anything fancy, just the builds I like.
If I had to guess the problem you were having with your tank it would be hot legs and hot spots, like someone said tighten up your screws and strum your coils. Good Luck

I'll probably have another go once i get better at it,thing is that one was given to me so thought i'd try it for the heck of it. Turns out i'm really not good enough atm,so that's why i'm getting a more "noob friendly" rta to get better and practice building instead of being frustrated with it. Serpent is single coil so less hassle for me and easier practice. Still like the thing it has a very smooth and tasty vape, just was frustrated too much to bother to do all the necessary steps. Who knows maybe i'll like it even more once i get better at it and start using it aswell, but for now it's a no go.

One trick I find on most RTAs with a top fill, is you need to close the Juice Flow before refilling. This helps keep a vacuum in the tank so your juice won't leak out the bottom airflow. I have found this to be the case on my IJoy captain, Griffin 25 and Smok Rta

I have a clone of the Petri 24 mm on order (which I may or may not ever see.) @VapingMoose said they are tricky to wick but he has tips. Paging @VapingMoose for help wicking a Petri. Let's see how fast he shows up.

Only had a single leak on it,not really an issue for me as i know from wicking my baby rba when it's too much or not enough basically,it's more of an annoyance whenever it happens (mostly from the waste of juice) but it's not a frequent thing on both rtas.

Thanks for the help though !

My Petri clone supposedly was delivered to my mailbox today, or so says USPS. It is NOT there. :( I hope the mail person just put it into the wrong box and it will be redelivered to the right one in the next day or two. Fastest delivery ever from China but that isn't doing me much good right now. o_O

USPS is really having a hard time lately. I still think it's fallout from all the storms. I don't even track stuff for a few days, as I will merely get annoyed. Let's hope you get it soon....

Oddly, my last FT order was way FASTER than expected, but everything domestic? Hmmm....

Anna

I didn't bother to track it at all. I have USPS delivery notification so got an email notification that the thing was delivered to my mailbox at around noon today. I suspect it was delivered to someone's mailbox, just not mine. I hope that person is not a vapor and does the right thing with my little package. *fingers crossed*
