I know that the conventional wisdom is that oils are a no no, but I know that some of you have used oils without killing your atomizers. I'm a pretty unconventional girl, so I would like some advice. :)

I can't really afford to mix up 10ml of a juice at a time unless I know I like it, so I was thinking that I could dilute some oils in vodka and add it to some PG to test out the flavor. Do you think this would work? If so, how much vodka do you think I should use to dilute the oil prior to mixing it with my PG? I was thinking 2 drops per ML of vodka. What do you think?

Also, for those of you who have been experimenting with the use of oils, how are your attys behaving? How long have you been using oils? How much do you dilute the oils you use (how many drops per ml or 10 ml or whatever)? Do you clean your attys to limit the oil crud deposits? If so, how often and with what? I think that alcohol would be a good cleaning agent for oily crud since it's what is used to get the oil to mix with the PG. Am I on the right path?

Thanks in advance for the info/advice.

I've been using oils (cinnamon and clove) for about 2 months with no problems. I do not use any alcohol in the mix. I simply add the flavor to the PG and/or VG base the same as any other flavoring - I measure the oil by dropper-fulls rather than drops but I'm guessing about 4-5 drops per ml. I use juice that contains oils on a daily basis, hubby more occasionally. We (actually I) have lost only one atomizer in 2.5 months - it quit suddenly and completely while in use - cause unknown.

We don't do any maintenance at all on a regular basis - we don't drain the attys, dry burn, regular blow out... nothing at all. When an atty begins to be hard to draw we soak it in a shot glass of vodka for anywhere from 1-10 hours, rinse under hot running water (sometimes using a syringe to shoot water through it with a bit of pressure), blow it out, and let it dry - sometime a repeat with a longer soak is needed - and they work perfectly again. I would say we only need to clean an atty roughly once every 2 weeks or less - after cleaning I can't tell which atty used oil and which didn't.

Hi
Since a cart (901) holds .5ml I would suggest using 1ml of pg as you base, then mix 10 drops of vodka to 2 drop of oil 10:2, then use 1 drop of the infused vodka to the 1ml of pg. that is roughly equivalent to 2 drops of oil per 10ml. That way if you like the taste you can mix up 10ml of that flavor.
I have been using oild in my mixes for 50+ days and I have had one atty die in that time. I use everclear every week in a 10ml syringe and jet the heater, the jet from the battery connection side and a lot of gunk comes out that way. I then let it dry (30 min) prime it and use. Like Wink I cant tell which one had the oil in it which did after cleaning.
I use a MAX of 4 oil drops per 10ml, I find it is plenty of flavor and helps keep the oil to a min exspecially with clove, to much and your tounge starts going numb LOL.
Hope this helps.

I have never seen gunk come out of my attys while cleaning. I wonder what I'm doing wrong. I use vodka, do you think the higher proof alcohol makes a difference?

That all depends on how long you hve been using it and what you put in it. A lot of colored flavoring will produce gunk or after using it a long time too. But if you are useing "Clean" ejuice (no coloring) you probably wont see much if anything. 100 proof alcohol would be best for cleaning. Everclear is 190 proof PGA (pure grain alcohol).
