Last time I flew, I had an EVOD battery with an EVOD clearo in my coat, which went through x-ray without issue. In my checked bag, I had three other eGo style batteries, and two 50 ml bottles of liquid in a ziplock bag. I didn't know the batteries were not allowed in checked luggage. I had no problems, but will be checking the regulations before my next trip.

I vaped openly in the airport, but sat far from others. When someone sat close to me, I switched to stealth mode to avoid angst from those who might be confused about what I was doing. ;)

I wonder why a lithium battery is OK in carryon, but not in checked luggage..... Maybe the ability to get to it if it overheats?

I've had TSA take fluid from me before when I was carrying more than 3 30ml bottles on me. Other than that no issues.

I went through with I think 6 30ml bottles. Were they are in a one quart ziplock bag as required? If they were I'm curious what reason they gave you for confiscating the items.

In all honesty I was worried about $2.05 Empty E-Liquid Bottles for E-Cigarette (5-Pack / 15mL) 5-pack - red / with needle at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping that getting confiscated. It's a flat needle tip bottle that I use to help refill my tanks or cartomizers easier. I figured if anything they were going to take that...but again was just you have ecigs in there...yes...ok move along.

I think they are illegal as cargo in passenger and commercial airlines unless they are in some type of protective case. Not sure if you ever shop from FastTech.com but it's the reason they stopped shipping batteries unless you buy a 100 or more. Too many packages were having items confiscated at customs in hong kong. They still ship ego's, MVP2's etc; they just don't ship the 18650, 18350, etc loose batteries any more.

I think it's due to the fact that they can cause a fire if a short is to occur. In all honesty this could happen in your pocket if you had a few coins or paper clips and connection was accidentally made from the positive to the negative terminal. I'm not sure if it is required but would error on the side of caution when dealing the TSA use these $1.74 UltraFire 2 x 18650 / 4 x CR123A Battery Protective Cases (2-Pack) - translucent / with protective plastic case at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping or something similar when carrying batteries. I always use that and never have a loose battery hanging out in my pocket.

Shorts can even occur with ego type batteries too...not sure how easy/often it occurs...but I wouldn't cary one in my pocket with say a metal SOS scourging pad in the same pocket. I don't think it's as big of a deal with them as almost all of them have a 5 click feature to turn off the device for pocket/travel use. Ohh so make sure you have them off when putting into your carry on ;) Just a friendly reminder.

So all that being said I'm not sure why they allow them in carry on...maybe fire extinguishers are close by in passenger sections but no crew in the stow-away area? If you have them they are required to be in your carry on and not your stow away. I've never had it happen to me but have heard they can confiscate those items if someone finds them in the stow-away luggage.

Recently flying from NYC, I put the juices in a zip lock bag and my pens in their case in my carry on. I was pulled over and they had to run the pens and case alone through the scanner. The TSA agent said that next time, take out the pens and put them in their own bin through the scanner since they're still kinda new to them. They were very friendly about everything. It might differ from airport to airport though.

So it appears disposables are fine...........should I leave them in their packaging or take them out and put them in a ziploc?
I left those sealed and wrapped and put them in my carry on. All I got was you have ecigs. Said yes. Never searched bag and they said ok and I moved on. Now that I think about it I put the eblue cartridges in carry on as well. Only ecig items I put in liquid bottle was my one prefilled tank and 6x30ml bottles. I never even thought about this but you could put those bottles in your stow away which I did on returning flights. Just bring extra zip lock bags. I individually zip locked each one and then put into bigger quart size bag. Only leaking issue I had was with my tank which I didn't put in zip lock :( on the flight home but did on flight there.

I guess the do tell you to put all electronic items in a separate bin don't they. I had all batteries in cases and vamo had no battery in it. I did put cell phone and usb power bank and kindle into electronics box. Never thought about the disposables or separated batteries though. Guess I'm not sure about a mod that didn't have a battery in it though.

I visited the states last december/january

YMMV, but, i had like ten 10mL bottles that went on my checked luggage in a zip lock bag and then i took my mvp with 2 Aspire clearos in my pocket.

I forgot about the ziplock bags and everything and did 2 TSA checks, dropping the MVP and the clearos in the bins and nobody said a thing. As i said, YMMV, maybe i got lucky or they didn't care.

I've just come across this: Transportation Regulations for Lithium, Lithium-Ion
and Lithium-Ion Polymer Cells and Batteries (Ultralife Corp)
Most of it is about cargo, but page 14 has the most comprehensive coverage of the regulations covering carry-on and hold luggage that I've found.

I'm traveling this weekend too.

ETA: The actual regulations are not supposed to be available on the net; you have to pay for them. However Google can find a good deal of stuff that shouldn't exist. Certainly as of 2012, the above link appears to accurately and completely described the regulations so far as they concern vaping and other common gear. Electric wheel-chair users would have to look deeper.
