Hey guys, I just got started in the whole RBA deal with a KFL+ I just purchased (though I had previously taken a stab at building coils for an AeroTank). When rebuilding coils, is it normal that the last two, outermost wraps of the coil don't get red hot? All the coils I've built get red from the inside, out as they're supposed to, but the outer coil on each side never get red (the first and last wrap, I suppose). Is this normal? And if not, how would I keep that from happening? Thanks in advance, and I apologize for such a noob question! :)

More information would be appreciated:

What is the resistance (ohm) of your coil?
What gauge wire, how many wraps did you make?
What battery device are you using? VV or mechanical?
What type of coil? Spiral or micro-coil?
What batteries are you using?

28ga kanthal, 1.4ohm, I use a vv/vw VTR with Panasonic 18650PF batteries. I've wrapped pretty much standard, micro and nanocoil builds, with varying 8-10wraps, all the same result. I haven't seen anyone else complain about it, so I figured it was normal. Also, no hotspots or anything. They always look pretty perfect, but it was just an observation I made, and figured if ask someone with more expertise.

Pretty much all my micro coils do that. I always thought it was just the heat getting was getting transferred to the build post/deck. Well if I really get on the power and let them warm up they will glow, but I usually get a little worried about popping the coil by then.

Thanks for the response, I'm glad it's not just me. Because I swear, I'm following tutorials to a T !

I only make micro-coils (less chance for shorts and more even heating of the coil) and I get a nice glow of all the coils loops, inside out, including the outer ones. I used this build:

Thanks for the video, I've actually used that one before. Same deal, unfortunately. Also, while I have you, thanks for all the insight you post on ECF. I've learned a ton from ya !
