I have ordered a Kanger Protank, a X9 Protank, and several EVODS from fasttech. I don't know how to rebuild them and I have purchased a bunch of the heating cores so they will have to do for now. If these suck I might consider purchasing from other recommended suppliers, but I need to hold off on spending for a little while. I've read that the coils are crap and that at they all need to be washed when I first get them. I also have a X8 tank that I will have to replace the heating coil on. I have never owned any tanks before so I have never taken them apart. I don't know if you wash all the parts or just certain pieces. Can someone please give me some directions or a good video link, pretty please? I'm sure it is all simple. I'd love to know how to rebuild them, as well, for future reference. Any videos or links to detailed instructions would be wonderful. Something like Rebuilding Your Atomizer/Tank for Dummies. ;)

Take the base off the protank there is a little post with a rubber gromit take the rubber off then carefully take that metal pin off you should then see the wicks on top there should be a couple lose wicks on top of your main wick with the coil wrapped around it? Take out one of the lose wicks put the other one(s) back on and press the pin back on then the rubber. This should help with any problems. Then fill and take 4 or 5 puffs with no power then just ease into it with the power till your getting good hits. If for any reason they still taste dry or burnt you can remove another lose wick and repeat. Hope this helps. I didnt have to wash any of mine at first.

Always good idea to clean everything before you start using. You never know. Carefully take all parts apart, especially the top wicks. A small dish of really hot water (or Isopropyl) soak, rinse and allow to dry. Assembly. When using new coils with juice, allow some time to let the wicks soak in the juice to avoid dry hits. Sometimes its good to add a few drops to prime it... Depending on your tank/atty/coil.

The thought of rebuilding was very intimidating to me. I watched pbusardo's video on YouTube and after seeing it, I know I could do it! I recently got five Evods and bought five replacement heads with them. I'm planning to get supplies to rebuild and when the time comes I'll swap in the new heads and rebuild the old ones, so I have five ready to go the next time around.

I highly recommend watching his video on this, it's really a piece of cake.

A few days ago, I got some wick and wire and managed to successfully rebuild an old clearomizer. First try was super low ohms, second try 2.0 ohms. It was fun and I was beaming with pride when I fired it up! Now, if only I could blow up another one, I hate to tear into a perfectly good one just for the heck of it.

I usually just wash my vaping gear in warm water. Obviously, the batteries can't get wet, but as far as tanks, clearos, etc..., I wash every nook and cranny. The X8 tank is a cartomizer tank. You just replace it with a cartomizer that is punched/flanged.

I'm not sure which 'heating cores' you mean though. Fast Tech has some issues with descriptions in English. Did you get the replacement coils for the Evod/Protank? If so, they are pretty easy to replace. Just unscrew the old one and screw in the new one. Actually rebuilding the coils is a more difficult pursuit. I would also recommend the PBusardo vids. He's on youtube and has a site: Taste Your Juice. I am just getting into RBA's and his videos really helped me figure out what to do with my AGA T2.

I got the heating cores they listed for the protanks and evods. I bought long ones and short ones. I think I read that the long ones only fit the X9 protank but the short ones were enterchangeable. I also bought the ones they had listed for the X8.

I found PBusardo videos quite easily on youtube. It looks like he does videos on everything. I watched one for the Evod.

Rinse everything in hot water. Right out of the faucet will do and if you can keep your hand under it then it's not hot enough to damage your gear. I strongly recommend NOT removing the flavor wicks from your Kanger bottom coil tanks. They are there for a reason, flavor and to keep the juice from easily leeching on to your battery connection. You can let your tanks dry completely or dry as good as possible with a paper towel, fill and vape. The first few hits may be weak but the Kanger bottom coil devices wick very well and you'll be in business after that.

The X8 again is a cartomizer tank. So the tube in the middle is just a cartomizer. That is the 'heating core' of this tank. The juice feeds into the cartomizer through the punched holes in the side. I'm pretty sure you just have to unscrew the screw on the bottom of the tank and the cartomizer should come out.

The Evods/Protank (Kamry or Kanger) are easy to replace the coil heads or 'heating cores.' With the language of your post, it sounded like you were wanting to actually build coils out of mesh and wick rather than use pre-made coils. If I'm understanding this now, yyou just want to know how to replace them. It is tough to get it without having the evod/protank in front of you. Basically, there are two main parts to a bottom coil system like the protank or evod: the base and the tube with the drip tip. The base has the coils screwed onto it. You just have to unscrew old coils and screw a new one back on. Then you just fill the tube with juice (being careful not get juice into the middle tube) and put the base back on. It might sound complicated, but really once you get your order and get comfortable filling them with juice, you should have more or less of an idea of how to change the coils.

I appologize. I don't know much yet. I used the names from Fasttech. I'm learning. Right now I just need to know which parts sould be cleaned because I read that I should before using them. That was my first question. I kind of ran my second question into my first question making my post confusing.

The other thing I have read about on here is rebuilding protanks and evods to make them better. This is greek to me, but I would be interested in learning about this if it improves life and performance. I won't be doing it immediately since I ordered a decent supply of the heating coils/heads for them all. In the future I might do this if it is more economical and makes them work or taste better.

The carto (or as I called it, heating coil) from the X8 I just got only last for a few hours of use. I hope the others I ordered have a bit more life than that.

My protanks should be here tomorrow and I will be anxious to use them, but I want to do it properly. I'm doing my research now so I'll be ready for their arrival.

Personally, I only clean my RBA's before using them. With normal clearomizers/cartomizers, I usually just fill and vape. However, if you really are set in cleaning them, I don't think they really need much more than warm water. Take the bases apart from the tubes and just rinse them in warm water. I just fill the tubes up with warm water a few times and run the bases under warm water.

That seems strange that your X8 took a crap on you that quickly. I have one, but have not used it yet. I did not realize that it was a carto-tank when I ordered it, so I am apprehensive about filling it with 3.5 mls of juice, haha. Did you fill the tank and put some juice into the cartomizer? The cotton-looking thing inside once you take the drip tip off should appear moist. If it does not, you need to add some juice to the cartomizer.

I filled it. It was working and was wonderful. I used it for about an hour the night I got it and then a couple of hours yesterday. Then it stopped vaping. The Vamo read 9.9, which someone told me meant it was not reading the cartomizer. I also tried it on the X6. It was not working on that either. It is full of juice, so I need to empty it. I haven't attempted that yet. The cartomizers for it won't be here for awhile, though. I didn't order them until the 8th.

Hmm. I share your woes with the X6. I actually threw mine out because it leaked out of every conceivable place.

With the X8, it sounds like it is more an issue with the connection its making to the battery. My Zmax says 9.9 ohms as a catch all (be it that the atomizer isn't working properly or the atomizer isnt connected to the battery). For instance, my MT3 gave me a 9.9 ohm rating, but seemed to work just fine on my MVP. If your Vamo is your main PV, you may want to check into some 510-eGo adapters in the future. At any rate, given the issues with the X6 and X8, they both seem like duds to me. This is especially disappointing because they looked so cool. I really was looking for some neat add-ons for my smoktech pipe mod.
