Its the beginning of day 6 cigarette free. I put down the smoke when I picked up a vape. I have been feeling great. Yesterday I received my new vape kit from Mt Baker to replace the mall/kiosk version I started with. This morning I get up and my lungs kinda hurt like the morning after I smoked too many cigs. Thoughts on this??? Too much vaping? change in liquids? Ive cut back on vaping for the day to see if it helps.

After smoking cigarettes for a while your body is adjusting to not putting all those toxins in it. It's withdrawals from not smoking. A lot of new Vapers go through it. You may even start coughing up stuff. Imagine all those toxins you were putting in your body. Cigarettes have some very bad things in them.

There's not anything I've read on ECF about ecigs causing a problem like that, but you will experience a lot of coughing as your lungs begin to recover from years of smoking. That can last for a while as your lungs heal. Cigarette smoking deadens the cilia and other parts of your lungs. As the cilia and the bronchial tubes recover, they start to remove tars and deposits, so you will cough up lots of that until they clear out.

PG can be a slight irritant to many if not most, depending on how much you vape. VG can cause a heavy feeling the lungs for a lot of people. The most popular mixes for PG and VG content vary from 80% PG down to 50/50 in the polls. Other than PG or VG sensitivity ecig use is mostly benign for most and definitely beneficial. We get our breath back and lots of us find that we can exercise again without huffing and puffing so much. The sense of smell begins to recover and sometime later we find that we can smell things we haven't smelled since we started smoking.

This link lists the benefits and when they begin to occur.

What pg/vg were you using before? I find if I go any less than 50/50 that the next day my lungs feel like they are filled with water and I have a hard time breathing. I think that they call it "heavy lungs" on this forum. So if the first juice that you bought was 70/30 or 60/40 you might be having a reaction to too much vg.

Of course the opposite could also be true. I've heard of people complaining about scratchy throats and stuff like that from too much pg.

Im feeling great and I think my sense of smell is getting better. I plan on taking my dog for a hike on the hill later (something that always winded me) I wanna see how that feels.
I think its not so much my lungs hurting as it may be more the back of my throat. It just feels weird today.

I don't think you'll notice that big of an improvement after this short of time. Give it at least a month then you'll notice a little improvement. After a few months it really improves.

Your body is adjusting to something different.. I smoked a pack a day, sometimes more for 18 years. Only able to quit for a day or two with patches and gum, but I'd go right back to smoking. I picked up a simple ecig last year and was vaping some ejuice I bought. No idea what the blend was, or even the ingredients.. Long story short, your probably past that stage in the first week where your vaping and still craving. That's the other chemicals found in analogs. Yeah, nasty, I know. However im going to be hitting week 3 tomorrow free of cigs. I noticed going into week 2 that my lungs hurt a bit any got a little bit discouraged. Don't be, it's probably normal. It's your lungs going, "...? Where's my smoke?" Well now that it's vapor, all those hairs and fibers in your lungs are beginning to clean out. Week 2 into week 3 your going to cough stuff up but guess what, I went to the pool the other day and can swim longer and hold my breath longer. Basically my lungs can already hold more air, and absorb more oxygen!!

ps- just a tip, but you may not be getting the nicotine your craving. If your chain vaping to get rid of the cravings, well, you may want to raise the nicotine amount in your juice. Mt. Vapor guys know their stuff, but I started at 24mg 30vg/70pg when I dropped cigs. Pack a day=24mg!!! I'm now down to 18mg in my main device and 24 in my backup for anxiety and stress, lol!!

Vaping takes some getting used to. I don't like hearing people always blame it on your body healing from cigs, because I wasn't a smoker before I started vaping. I started vaping to stop chewing tobacco and I've been a runner for several years at least now so I know my lungs are healthy. After vaping about a week or a little less, my throat and lungs were both sore and tender from the vapor. Sometimes in the morning or at odd times, my throat will be sensitive and hurt when vaping, especially in the morning, but this has minimized and is not the pain it used to be. I have become used to vaping now after a few weeks and can basically vape pain free.
Juice matters from what I have experienced. Take right now for instance. I am vaping some blue berry flavored juice and it hurts a little to vape it. Yesterday I was vaping an RY4 flavored juice with no pain at all, or at least very little. So for some reason certain flavors cause more irritation and I doubt its the PG/VG content doing this as they are both the same PG/VG content. Its the flavors for me that cause pain at times I'm fairly certain.
Stick to it and the pain will subside. When I had pain in the beginning, I would not inhale, only vape with the mouth and nose. Give your lungs a break. It worked for me.
So, whether you are a smoker or not, vaping will hurt your lungs and throat as you get used to it.

This may very well be true for you but I can tell you stopping smoking has effects on the body. I know this because when I went to basic training for the army I couldn't smoke for 9 weeks. The first 2 weeks were horrible. My lungs hurt, my stomach hurt, I had all sorts of withdrawal symptoms. I even coughed like I had the flu. After the 2nd week was up I started noticing I could run longer, breathe better, etc... My point is smoking has toxins and once you stop all at once your body does have to adjust. The day I got out of basic training I bought a pack of cigarettes. Stupid I know, but I craved them after I knew they were available. Later I found vaping and went through the exact same symptoms when I stopped smoking again. Now I can run and go up and down stairs without losing my breath. It's great.

I understand that and of course, stopping smoking has its own effects. I just believe its incorrect to blame vapor pain that new people experience on their lack of smoking. The vapor irritates the throat and lungs and causes pain, whether you were a smoker or not. I have another friend who dipped for over 20 years and he recently started vaping, partly because he saw me and others doing it to stop dipping. Now he has throat and lung pain but I told him I had it too and that it starts to minimize and go away.

Oh I agree. Putting a foreign substance in your lungs after never having anything but oxygen definitely will cause the same symptoms. I don't doubt that. But since she was a former smoker its safe to assume for the most part her body is adjusting to stopping the cigarettes. Sure, some flavors are harsh on the throat and lungs. I have some I can't Vape because they feel like their abrasive.

Yeah seriously. Some flavors are smooth and easy to vape. Others feel acidic and straight up hurt like hell. So far I've noticed that some strawberry flavors (not all of them) and blue flavorings, like grape and blueberry have hurt me the most. My god, I have a totally unvapable grape flavor at home. I bought 30ml of it because I assumed it would be as good as a different grape from a different vendor. I wanted to try another grape from someone else, but I was wrong. Not all grapes are created equal. One is good, one is trash. I mean TRASH! I only used it for testing builds with my kayfun, then dumped that garbage and filled the tank with something else.

I guess I was lucky, I didn't have any issues with the vapor changes. I started out with 24mg's of nicotine since I was a PAD or more smoker for over 40 years. Then, after about 6-8 weeks, just can't recall the time period, I cut it down to 18mg's. Now, I'm doing 12mg's and am very comfortable with the nic changes and am about to cut to 6mg's.

If you smoked menthols, I would suggest you try to remain on the menthol vape by itself for a while. I could be that your vanilla is causing what you are experiencing. Unless you smoked vanilla cigarettes, that is more than likely the change your lungs are experiencing in your issues. You have gotten rid of a ton of toxins and heavy metals by getting rid of the cigarettes, but you have added something new with the vanilla. It seems to me all this is a step at a time, or at least that's how I approached it. I was a menthol smoker, stayed with it for the first few months by itself. Now, I have added a few flavors, but I limit the amount I use of them, pretty much stay with what I had been doing all those years, menthol. For a bit of variety, you can use different types of menthols - spearmint, wintergreen, etc.

That makes a lot of sense since I havent had any problems til I added vanilla. (I had tried blueberry with no problem) But that vanilla yesterday was kinda nasty, I dont think I will be using it anymore. In fact I just dumped that tank.
and yes I was a menthol PAD smoker for 30 yrs.

My throat bothered me when I started vaping and some days my lungs felt raw as if I had smoked too much. In my case, I found that I'm sensitive to the amount of pg in the e-liquid I was using. 50/50 is best for me though I can handle 65/35 in short doses. I also started at 18mg nic and 12mg was much better for me.

Gargling salt water a couple of times a day helped tremendously. I still swish/gargle once a day just for good measure.
