Today I noticed inside the tank the color of my juice is darker then what is in the bottle. I took the head off and on the wicks there is a little bit of buildup and thats whats causing the discolorization. Can I clean the wicks off with water and maybe a toothpick or something? I have been using this head for a week as I just got the protank. Thanks!

Just got my new protank in the mail a few days ago and have been vaping hard on it ever since! Depending on what type of ejuice you use (flavor / color) and also the vg/pg blend will determine how often you need to clean your heads. If you use a dark colored juice such and a higher VG percentage, your heads will need more frequent cleaning. This can be done by washing and dry burning your wicks as shown in this video: How to Clean & Dry Burn... Kanger ProTank - YouTube

As for the color of the ejuice changing in your tank, it could be that your juice is actually steeping while its in there, therefore getting darker and richer as the favors mature.

I use a clear menthol ejuice from mt vapor baker with 70/30 pg/vg. Just checked my head after 3 days of use and bottom wick seems clean and white still. Just been rinsing tank and head under water between tank fills. K

Hope this helps!

I use protanks daily. When they start turning the juice a darker color that tells me my wick/coil are getting ready to be rebuilt. Usually the flavor isn't as good once the wick/coil get gunked up. You can clean them but if you use water just make sure to dry it well before using it again. In my experience water actually ruins the wick. I don't wash them any longer. A protank coil lasts me just about a week before needing to be replaced or rebuilt.

Rebuilding takes all of 5 minutes. I always have around 2 or 3 extra coils built and ready to go.

You can also try removing the flavor wick and adding a new one. this sometimes prolongs the life and good flavor.

Do you have a link to a video on how to rebuild them by any chance?

Check PBusardo on YouTube... either his Protank or eVod (the coils are nearly the same) review shows how to rebuild the coil. It's easy, but it does take a little time. My recommendation is to buy a five pack or two of extra coils, use those first, then rebuild them all in one sitting.

Yeah just jump on youtube. Plenty of videos on how to rebuild these.

I should have said water has ruined the taste of my wicks. After cleaning with water and drying overnight there was a differnt tast after that.

The bottom line is these coils don't last a long time. maybe if you use a larger AWG wire they will last a little longer but I haven't tried.

Once you build one coil it becomes SOOOOOOOOOOOOO easy the next time. I can do one in under 5 minutes easily. It took me about 15 minutes last night to rebuild 4 coils for my protank and I wasn't even rushing.

But like the other dude stated; buy a pack of replacement coils...I did that as well. Use them and then rebuild them all. This way you always have a bunch of spares handy for those 'oh crap' moments when you flavor just drops off.

Most of my juices get darker the lower in the tank it gets even on new heads. I am generally using 50/50 blends. If you notice the flavor changing in a worse way then its definitely time to clean/change the head. I find my best flavor tends to be half-full to almost empty in the tank. It probably has a lot of factors - my draw style, the wattage I run at 8.5-10 adjusted for best flavor, throat hit etc.

I disagree with that completely. A simple maintenance like the one in the video How to Clean & Dry Burn... Kanger ProTank - YouTube will restore the coil to like new state. The only think I do different is I don't save the old flavor wick and it's replaced with new 1 mm silica. Using this method I get over a month out of my Kanger bottom coils. The ones that 'go bad' and into the rebuild pile are shorts.

It's good to know how to rebuild and I'm glad people do it, teach it and report about it. I even have Atties of various kinds soaked in pg liquid that have gotten crappy for the day I might need to play around with them but for now I pay attention to sales or co ops and stock up. I too have some Atties that will dirty up the juice and I hate inhaling dirty e juice. Maybe I am when a carto starts tasting dirty....no doubt I am. Yeah...just change them out until a rainy day and save them for messing with when in a detailing mood.
