I was diagnosed with diverticulitis over a year ago. My attacks got worse over the past year to the point that I had to get surgery, and they had to remove about 12 inches of my colon. Before the surgery, I had to get a pulminary and a cardiac clearance.

The pulminary showed the beginning stages of COPD. The lung doctor said it was emphasema, but my doctor said it was not emphasima, and said that they just tell you that to scare you. He said it was more of an athsma/broncitus thing. They both said I could improve my condition with excercise, losing weight, and quitting smoking.

The cardiac showed something on my EKG, so I had to get a stress test. The stress test showed a minor difference, so I had to get a cathiterization to make sure there was no blockage. The cathiterization showed no blockage, but it did show a small part of the bottom of my heart is slightly enlarged. The heart doctor said that at some point I could have had a mini silent heart attack.

I made it through the surgery, and did not wake up with a colostomy bag. I told the surgeon that if he was going to have to put one of those bags on me... to just shoot me in the head instead. It has been about 6 weeks since the surgery, and I seem to be healing up pretty good. I am still affraid of having a diverticulitis attack though. Even though they removed that part of my colon, I just still have that fear.

The things that they found are minor enough that they cleared me for the surgery, but are making me think that quitting smoking is something that I should definately try to do again. I used e-cigs to quit smoking before, and I think I can do it again with some encouragement.

I have a few variouse e-cigs from when I quit smoking the last time that I have been starting to use more, and just ordered a vapor4life Vapor Zeus kit along with a spare battery and a 5 pack of smileomizers. I need a big hit to not think about smoking a cigarette, and I think the Zeus will provide the hit and consistancy to do the job. I got the auto kit because of the simplicity. Just pick it up... and take a hit.

I am also going to make an attempt to get back in shape and lose some weight. I already lost 10 lbs. from the surgery stuff that I had to go through. It's pathetic that I used to be able to do 70 pushups in 2 minutes, 70 situps in 2 minutes, and run 2 mile in 14 minutes, and now I get winded running up 2 or 3 flights of stairs.

I am so glad this forum is here to support people who are trying to quit smoking, and I plan on wheening myself off the cigarettes and on the e-cigs over the next 6 months. Every doctor that I spoke to about the e-cigs say that they are probably much much less harmful than cigarettes. But, they seemed to all agree that it is better to wheen from the cigarettes to the e-cig. This will let your body adjust to the change gradually instead of shocking your system. Last time I quit using e-cigs, it took me almost 6 months, and that is exactly how I plan on doing it this time.

Anyway, Thanks for listening, and thanks for being here.

Bob

Best of luck in your transition. I hope your experience was all you will need to succeed.

After 45 + years, I did a lot of research and just made the switch. I realized, at least for me, the biggest shock to the system is the emotional one of giving up something you have become one with. The E-cig made that transition simple and I never looked back.

Wow that's some hard and awakening stuff! There's no way you can sneak back to fulltime cigging without giving your fellow ECF members a chance to help you out in any way possible. That goes for both gear issues and whatever else you might encounter that makes you want to go back to cigs. Good thing about these boards; there's a handful of experts on any conceivable setup. Luckily, there's even more nice people to keep your morale up when you just need a laugh or pat on the back.

You CAN do it!

If the simplicity of the autos works, then go for it.

If the vape doesn't satisfy, try a different concentration of nic. I started with 18 and it wasn't enough for me. I switched to 24 and haven't looked back.

And flavors, of course, that make you smile :)

When you crave a cig, vape first. Then, if you still crave a cig, have one and don't beat yourself up about it.

Hey, vaping is definitely a lot better than dying! Just give vaping an honest chance and I'm sure you'll be able to do it! Where abouts in Pa do you live?

Jacob

Thanks for the reply. I'm in Levittown, Pa.

Is that a military uniform I see in your picture?

Air Force maybe?

I was in the Army for 6 years 1983-1989.

ha, I was gonna say, pushups in 2 minutes, situps in 2 minutes, 2 mile run in x minutes... youre army for sure =D I was in '89 to '92.

that's why I switched to ecigs too, I don't have any health issues... YET. but life keeps telling me its just a matter of time, so quit now while your health is still somewhat acceptable, or wait till its a real problem? I don't necessarily want to die over some stupid habit. so I made an effort, and im certainly glad I did, vaping is much more fun. =)

good luck to you, bob. =)

Read your own post that should be all of the encouragement you need!

A little off topic but It kind of bothers me someone in the medical profession would tell me I had emphasima only to scare me. I dont want to be scared I want to be diagnosed correctly and given all of the information and options of what I can do to improve my situation.

everything you've always been warned not to do I am an EX of;-) I have zero will power If I can stop smoking anyone can.

So tell me. The cartos "smilomizers" are they a 3.00 ohm, 3.50 ohm or what? Have you burned any juice, as in too hot, with them? Maybe this belongs in a different section. You picked a great setup. Huge hit short pull but sometimes my atty doesn't handle the 5 volts too well. Do they last a long time?
I enjoyed your post. Especially the fact things are pretty much reversible! A little asthma can be tamed. And so true about weaning. Sometimes the negative side affects of detoxifying cause people to give up. Very sane. You'll do we'll!

Helluva wakeup call isn't it Bob!
While not quite as serious, yet at any rate, I'm going through similar just now.

The short of it; bloodflow issues in my feet, initial diagnosis is Buerger's, more testing in the coming weeks to affirm.
This is one of those conditions that the medical community doesn't know for sure what the cause is but nicotine, from any source, is thought to be the culprit.

I quit a 35 year affair with cigarettes 3 years ago with vaping augmented with snus, snuff and the pipe. Loves me some tobacco, just don't inhale right?

I left off the vaping and went my merry way with snus, snuff and briar. Life happens and started with the butts again. Problems with the feet started soon after.

I just resumed vaping a week ago after an almost 3 year hiatus and I've not had a cigarette or a bowl since. Still using a few portions of snus occasionally.

My hopes are that with the control possible with nicotine levels in my vape I will be able to gradually drop down to zero nic.

Indeed, We Can Do It!

I have not recieved it yet. From what i have seen on youtube they seem to be 2.5 ohm (+/- .2). I have not seen anything that suggests anything about the liquid burning. Just that you get a GREAT hit, and it is such a simple setup. That seems to be exactly what I need.

Thanks for the reply.

I hear ya.

I've been smoking since I was 13 and I'm 56 now. I smoke 2 to 3 packs a day, but I do waste alot (leave them burning in the ash tray all the time). I just need to set my mind to it again, and start gradually smoking less and vaping more.

Thank you for the reply.

after almost 50 years of smoking two months ago I started on this world called vaping, in 2010 they made me
5 bypass and the doctors told me I had to quit, but I never did, three months ago felt very bad in the chest, was when I
find another alternative to smoking, I think this is the best, I began with 12mg of nicotine and down to 6mg
yesterday and I think in a few weeks but I'll get to 0mg .. we must be strong and carry on with this, to be
able to live a little more and enjoy this life that is so beautiful ... this is just a bad time for you but
it will pass and everything will be joy ..

The first time I used vaping to quit, I started with 24 and was using a Provari. After about 5-6 months of no cigarettes I bumped it down to 18, and got a smaller e-cig (volt). That probably was a mistake, because one day I took a drag off my wife's cigarette just to see what it tasted like. It tasted like crap, but I got the nicest nic rush you could imagine. Next thing I knew, I was at wawa buying a pack. Within a month, I was right back up to 2 to 3 packs a day.

Funny how that works...:(
