Hi everyone!

I'm quitting smoking cigarettes, well for now I'm switching to vaping. :)
This Forum has helped me a lot already, I ended up here many times while I was searching for answers about vaping. So I basically had no other choice than sign up here. :)

I've been smoking cigarettes for 22 years now.
I've quit twice. Cold turkey. Well, I actually didn't quit 'cause than I won't be here now, right? ;)
So I took 2 longer break from cigarette (14 months and 8 months), and this year I was on and off, switching back and forth between smoking and vaping.

I'm GONNA make it this time, so I'm here to get some support and also help other by sharing my experiences.

I've learned a lot about vaping. I have rebuilt my CE4 clearomizer (I know it's not rebuildable, but I needed it to work, so I did), I fixed my stripped 510 threads on my cheap batteries and so on. Yeah, I'm kinda a fixer, problem solver. :)
But as I learn more I just find out how much more I still don't know. Never ending story, right? :)

I'm not planning to vape for ever but I need this to help me with my cravings for nicotine until I'll be totally free.

I wasn't sure where should I post my question, so I just post it here.
I'm about to make my own juice.
It has to be:
- NON PG! - Unfortunately I'm very allergic to it. I had psoriasis ones, and since I'm vaping for about 2 month now (first 50/50 than 70VG/30PG) and it triggered it so much. What's interesting is that it's started on my chest and on the sides - basically around the lungs.
I have never had this severe symptoms! That's why I need to make my own juice. ASAP.
- Natural - Nothing artificial - I'm pretty sensitive to chemicals
- Good trout hit - as much as possible with VG
- Sour taste - I don't have sweet tooth and there is not many sour flavor out there.

Here is what I got so far:
- VG USP type (Heritage brand and I also got one from NOW brand which doesn't say it's USP --> does it make any difference?)
- Nicotine - I found a local vape shope where the guys were so nice, they will add the nic to my VG! :)))
- Distilled Water - I will use it to thin out the VG

And what I still need:
- Flavor!!!
Since the VG itself is a little sweet, I need to find some good, non PG based, non artificial, non sweet flavors. Something like sour apple/green apple, kiwi, lemon, citrus fruits. Not much success with this. I've checked many sites, also the ones was recommended on this Forum:
Wizard Labs - they have natural lemon flavor tho
Vaping Zone - ingredients not listed
Ecigexpress - PG

- Organic acid: concentrated lemon or lime juice or vinegar?
I just read about this. So this will reduce the PH in the liquid. Is this necessary? If yes, what type? Just any from a health food store?
Should I just use the concentrated lemon to give it a lemon taste?

- For a good TH, I've read that it is really the PG what can achieve that. For VG only juice I read that PGA (pure grain alcohol) will increase TH. Any experience with it?
Or should I just use flavors what would satisfy my craving for cigarettes a little better?
Right now I have 12mg nic.

I will mix my juice as I learned here, 80%VG + 20% everything else (Flavor, DW, Organic acid, etc.)

Thank you so much for any help.

By the way, I'm vaping on pen style batteries (EGO-T, Evod Twist II, X6) and using tanks like CE4, waiting for my CE5. I have tried iClear16D and Kanger ProTank 3 as well, but they just too airy for me. Even when I plugged the airflow holes. The CE4 seemed to give me a more similar draw to cigarettes.

You will be disappointed with the flavor of a 100% VG. VG is a pittiful carrier of flavor.

I would suggest an 80/20 or even an 85/15.

Higher VG JUICES are thicker and slower to wick.

About Psoriasis. Spread a thin coating of petroleum jelly over the inflamed skin to moisten and protect the skin.

If you make an ointment with Calendula concentrate in the PJ. It will also help heal the skin. About 20 years ago I started making an ointment (BCP) in PJ the letters are the abbreviation for the common names of three herbs I put in it.

B- Butter & Eggs (Antihirinum Linaria )
C- Calendula (Calendula Officinalis)
P- Plantain (Plantago Major)

The first two does the healing and plantain has natural sulphur to kill the bacteria and other microbes on the skin do the healing herbs can do their work.

Several sufferers of psoriasis swore by the stuff including a former landlady in Washington. (Not DC)

It is also said that getting some sun on the affected areas helps clear it up.

First off vg carries flavors just fine.

Secondly, welcome to the forum, great place here.. I think we all had no choice - all roads lead to ecf. :)

I am routinely using less flavoring than other people with Pg. I've been vaping 100vg for years. Pg just adds chemical taste thus burn from chemical.. Vg just needs a little longer steeping. Typically I use no water in vg, unless it's below 55° I start adding little by little depending on temperature, but for Your devices you will need thinning right away. Start at 5-10% h2o, Add till it wicks properly for your devices, while also using as little as needed.

TH is mostly determined by nicotine brand and strength, then flavor. The new Ultra clean nics tend to have a lower th. The dirtier nics usually have much more th or pepperiness.

Never needed to use PGA, vinegar ect. I like a strong not sweet vape. The fruits are tough... Why don't you consider tobacco flavors?

A good flavoring that can be used at ~ 3% shouldn't be a problem for you in pg base. Half that is flavoring components so your final ratio would be about 1.5%. A fraction of even 85/15. I don't think you will have an issue at this low level of Pg, unless your extremely sensitive to it. There's usually a threshold that can be tolerated.

The flavoring can add a large part of throat hit if its the right one. I use hangsen arabic tobacco flavoring at 3%. They use a naturally extracted tobacco for the main component of the flavor in a close to 50/50 base.. No artificial tobacco chemical flavoring.!... It can be used at 2-4%. Adds a lot of th and very little sweetness. More bitter and spicy tobacco. Excellent th...

Certain flavors can add a lot of th.to your vape.

I've been vaping under 10% VG for 3+ years, no problem with flavor. If OP is going to DIY, he can make ejuice with as much or as little flavor as they wish.

But you are correct about the wicking. :) Distilled water usually fixes that.

About Psoriasis. Spread a thin coating of petroleum jelly over the inflamed skin to moisten and protect the skin.

A very good palliative remedy and should help the present outbreaks.

But the problem with allergies/sensitivities to substances like PG is that it is happening internally, i.e., system is mounting a histamine response. The psoriasis is the immune system trying to "get it out" of the body, and it erupts on skin to "get out".

OP may be able to "heal" the psoriasis with canendula, and sun, etc.......but the only way to stop the P from coming is if they stop injesting what is causing it in the first place. Because each incidence of re-injestion of the thing that is causing the side-effect will just set up a new immune response.

Best not to expose the body to substances that one's immune system has trouble dealing with, as it sets up an inflammatory response in the body which will be *on-going*, repeated insult.

Cinnamon flavoring might add some throat hit. You might do a search on cinnamon in these forums. I remember there being some complication that made them hard on attys. I can't remember exactly what it was. I expect that you have found this forum already DIY E-Liquid .

Also for throat hit you might need to up the wattage that you are vaping at. I don't think it is necessary to start with any device that is higher than 40 watts. But, you might like a warmer vape. I would try someone else's unit first before deciding on that option. I can sympathize with you on the seriousness of quitting smoking. I am on my 3rd earnest attempt now. This is the 2nd attempt by using a personal vaporizer. I'm just not going to smoke today.

I'm sort of out of it today. I just paid closer attention to your first post, and I realized that a rebuildable atomizer or rebuildable tank is an absolute must for someone that likes to tinker with stuff. I suspect that you are already familiar with basic electrical concepts such as Ohm's law.

Heathers Heavenly Vapes offers 100 VG juices... take a look... Ive been using them for over 2 yrs now... awesome stuff

Thanks for the recommendation.
They look good, they have the PG free line, but $6 for 6ml it's a bit pricy.
Nude Nicotine has their flavorings for $3/5ml. You might wanna check them. ;)

Thanks for the replies guys!

About the psoriasis and PG intolerance:

Because each incidence of re-injestion of the thing that is causing the side-effect will just set up a new immune response.

I'm agree with you Racehorse.
I might be able to get rid of the symptoms but I can only heal internally.
And I believe it's true for every health problem. Unless it was an external cause, like a train cutting off your legs. Ha.

However, I would try the mentioned remedy to treat my skin. Thanks Two_Bears.
It is also said that getting some sun on the affected areas helps clear it up.
That I'm getting plenty here in San Diego. :)

The weird thing is that it actually started back in July. And I just figured out the connection with the PG when I read about the health effects of PG. It does triggers eczema, psoriasis and other skin problems.
According to wikipedia:
"Individuals who cannot tolerate propylene glycol, experience inflamed dry skin in the facial area, or small red dots on the body. Investigators believe that the incidence of allergic contact dermatitis to propylene glycol may be greater than 2% in patients with eczema or fungal infections..."

About the juice, flavoring:

JeremyR, thanks for welcoming me! Yes, it is a great place! :)

TH is mostly determined by nicotine brand and strength, then flavor. The new Ultra clean nics tend to have a lower th. The dirtier nics usually have much more th or pepperiness.
What is the brand you like? The dirtier one? :) Could you post a link?

I like a strong not sweet vape. The fruits are tough... Why don't you consider tobacco flavors?
I didn't really wanted tobacco flavor, since that might just remind me for the cigarette.
But the sweet flavors available everywhere... gosh... I just don't like them.
Or maybe get one tobacco flavor and add some fruit flavor to it?
(I used to smoke American Spirit, the yellow one and Marlboro light before that.)
I will try that hangsen arabic tobacco flavoring, thanks for the recommendation.

I might tho. And just don't want to risk it.

I vape unflavored. You could try it. Maybe the flavorings are a problem for you.
I buy 60mg nic in vg, measure 10ml of that, 10ml of distilled water, 80ml of vg for a 100ml batch. Cheap and simple.
Yes, it sounds really simply.
I wouldn't really need the flavoring. I just wanted to take the VG natural sweet taste away with something. But I never tried it unflavored. Maybe this is the time. :) What about TH? Do you get a good TH? What cigarette did you smoke before (light/medium/strong)? I'm just trying to see what could work for me. Thx!

And now about the attys. I just learned this word. Haha. :)

I really would like to have a good rebuildable tank and a reliable battery/mod.
Since I'm not planning to vape more than couple of months until I quit fully, I don't want to spend a lot of $$ on this.
I would love to have recommendations on the actual tanks. Thanks. :)

I like to take long tight draws (just like smoker do...).
I couldn't find a good tank yet, the best was the CE4 due to the tight draw it's giving me.
But the frequent burnt taste and the lack of ability to rebuild it does not make me happy.
A lot of other tanks I tried was just too airy for me.

Cinnamon flavoring might add some throat hit.
I would try that. I would choose that over the mint flavor.
And yes, it could crack the plastic attys. So I need a good glass one I guess.

Also for throat hit you might need to up the wattage that you are vaping at. I don't think it is necessary to start with any device that is higher than 40 watts.
What device would you recommend?

I am on my 3rd earnest attempt now. This is the 2nd attempt by using a personal vaporizer. I'm just not going to smoke today.
This is my 2nd time switching to vaping. I'm not using the word "attempt" because I am attempting anything. I AM doing it. :)
And what actually helped me is that I was not hard on myself and I did smoke cigarettes on the first couple of weeks when I really really needed it. Than at one point it just didn't taste as good as before and vaping started to feel better. Wish you the best and I'm sure you can do it! :)

Since you need RTA, glass AND a tight draw. Would recommend a Kayfun Lite Plus. It is exclusively a MTL device and in the top 10 for flavor. The Orchid and Goblin Mini would give a little better flavor than the KFL+; but those have a lot more airflow.

Hi and welcome to ECF,

Here is what I got so far:
- VG USP type (Heritage brand and I also got one from NOW brand which doesn't say it's USP --> does it make any difference?)
- Nicotine - I found a local vape shope where the guys were so nice, they will add the nic to my VG! :)))
- Distilled Water - I will use it to thin out the VG

I vape 90%+ vg and with the newer bottom coil tanks have never had to thin my juices. So I would suggest trying without thinning first. You can always thin later if you decide you need to.

Yes, your vg should be USP.

Please talk to the guys at that shop BEFORE you have them add nic, many vendors use pg based nicotine. That could be a problem if that is what they are using.

There are not many vg based flavorings, but also check out DIY Flavor Shack as well Dawn has started carrying some vg based flavorings.

- Organic acid: concentrated lemon or lime juice or vinegar?
I just read about this. So this will reduce the PH in the liquid. Is this necessary? If yes, what type? Just any from a health food store?
Should I just use the concentrated lemon to give it a lemon taste?

While I have heard of people using these at times, no they are not needed. I have been DIY'ing for 3+ years and NEVER added these things to a juice.

TH is caused by your nic level, other things such as menthol, and some flavorings such as cinnamon can add to the th.

If you are open to trying dripping, I would suggest a cisco 510 1.8 ohm, I do suggest a sealed 510/510 adapter and drip shield. Not only does this give good flavor, but has a tighter draw than many tanks or rba/rda's out on the market and with what you are liking draw wise it worth checking out. It also will not matter how thick or thin a juice is with them.

While you are using pen styled devices I wouldn't go below the 1.8 ohm.
