Greetings everyone!

I have been using smokeless tobacco for 8-9 years, together with smoking, but have pretty much given that up as of now (thanks to the snus).

However, I'm not a big fan of the amount of nicotine in snus. Don't get me wrong, I love the feeling it gives me, and the taste is just awesome, but I have found I easily get OD kind of symptoms, simply because I use too much of the stuff since it's too good.

My consumption is not insane, it's about half a can a day, with regular strength portions and sometimes with a few extra strong ones thrown in there as well. This seems to still be too much though.

To be honest I've gotten in to a bad habit with the snus, it's like, I start my day, use about one every hour in my normal phase, feel good, then when a few hours have gone, I start to feel a little bit jittery, then I throw in one more to calm myself down, feel jittery still, throw in one more after a while, and so on, until I'm fatigued, tired, stressed and drained in the evening. Not something good to keep at.

So what I want to do is to lower my nicotine intake. I recently tried only vaping for almost a week, but fell back on the snus after starting to feel a little bit depressed (it went away immediately when I threw in a snus).

I use an Ego with 16 mg 80/20 PG/VG juice. Vaped probably 6-7 ml a day during that week. Now I snus all day at work and vape when I get home until I go to bed.

vaping for me is very satisfying, and the effects of the nicotine I found are much more calming and mellow than in snus/cigarettes. That is what I'm after, and getting to keep the smoking rituals (as an excuse to go outside and take a break etc.) is awesome. So I do love vaping, and it works very well in keeping me from snus, for a while.

How do I get over the hump? Has anyone quit smokeless tobacco with vaping, and does it get easier?

And you who have quit, can you tell me if you have noticed any benefits of switching? If there are no benefits then I might as well keep on snusing, but I do feel pure nicotine is better than all the other stuff in tobacco. Not having tobacco under your lip all the time would also be fantastic.

Increase the nicotine level of your juice. 16mg is pretty low for someone who admits to being addicted to it. I would suggest starting out with a 24mg which you should be able to get anywhere, and maybe bump it up to a 30mg if the 24 isn't enough. 30mg and stronger juices are harder to find, but they are out there. I would not recommend them until after you've tried 24mg and found it's not enough. Better to err on the side of caution than to get something that is too strong and make yourself sick using it.

As for other benefits of ecigs over snus I have two words for you........... Pancreatic Cancer

Ecigs don't cause it, snus can.

Very good advise! I have tried 24 mg and found it pretty much perfect for me in terms of throat hit and feel. However, I love vaping, so I would probably OD hard on that stuff too, haha. Will give it a shot and get some bottles though!

Very true on the pancreatic cancer... there is a 100% increase in risk if you are snusing, however, the increase if I remember correctly was like from 2/100 000 up to 4/100 000. Haha. But still, it's not a fun disease to get.

I came from long cut chewing tobacco. I started with a "cig-a-like"and a clearomizer, but got sick if the battery life. I got a VV/APV mod with menthol juice, refilled blank cartridges and loved it. I had to get 24mg juice and not let myself see or think about a can of Skoal apple blend or cope. None the less, after a week, I was in love with vaping. My taste buds came back, and I could smell more. Chewing tobacco no longer phases me.. Especially after losing 2 teeth from it.. Vape on! (Btw, after 2 weeks, I'd lower the nicotine content to 18 or so.)

Buddy of mine used jerky chew and patches, but I think if you used a ecig with using that maybe it could help you transfer over easy? May sound kinda foolish but if it works? But definitely try out some different nic levels that will surely help you out.

Absolutely! I quit the snus once with nicotine free snus, and it worked suprisingly well, and that was without an ecig (I obviously started up after a while again though). Will give that a try! Thank you!

That's fantastic to hear you quit the chew! I also noticed tasting and smelling more, and that already after about a week. Generally I started feeling more 'alive', like I had been reborn, discovering life again. It sounds crazy but, it was pretty awesome. Of course my mood shifted a bit, but the good times were oh so good.

What VV did you get? I'm considering getting a new mod to really kick start this, but I have no idea what to get. I thougt about an Evic but read that it doesn't put out that much power (I want the power, lol). Thinking about the Vamo V5 or SID as well, but I have no idea.

Thanks both of you for the answers! Great motivation to see people responding.

I have a TON of snus in the freezer though. Question is what I do with that. Even bought a few new cans today for some reason. Bah.

I originally bought a knock off lavatube a year and a half ago. It was called a "Vtube". After research, I became a member on this forum. I looked into the vamo. It was a V1 when I bought mine. SS for like $35. Now, they're about $50 or $60. You can find kits for like $70 though. I'd say shoot for the vamo. They're the best bang for the buck intro to VV/VW vaping. As for the snus, that stuff just gave me headaches. I never used it besides the free coupon with my "stinky sticks" when I smoked. It always sucked. Toss it out. Resist temptation, and deliver us from big tobacco corporation, amen. Lol. Congrats on the switch though! I know the feeling. It's a great feeling. Just make vaping your "snus". You don't need snus. Get set on a mod with juice, a battery, a charger, and a carto tank/clearo/dripper etc of your choice, and stick with it. Keep stocked, and keep on vaping my friend.

My exact story! I quit chewing a few months ago by using the cig-a-like's then moving to eGo types and now I have the MVPv2.

OP, it takes a while, but if you start backing off the nic levels in every successive bottle of juice you buy, it can be done. Oh, and gum helps with the "need something in my lip" feeling you get.

Thank you so much for the answer man! I have thought about the Vamo V5 or the MPV, but actually think I'll go with a VTR. That thing is just sick. Being able to pump it up to 15 watts should do the trick as well.

Awesome motivation, today I only had one snus in the morning with my coffee, then one after that, at about 9 am - but after that I stuck with vaping, and have been at it since then. Drinking beer and vaping right now, good stuff!

I saw your thread, that's awesome to see you successfully quit chewing. Then there seems like there's hope for me too, haha. Yeah, about the juice, I have noticed some juices just do it for me, while others just seem to feel quite empty, even if they taste decent. I have quite I few I love now though, and I haven't even explored one procent of what's out there. This journey will be interesting!

Thank you both!

I started vaping about six weeks ago, until then I had been dipping a can a day of Copenhagen Wintergreen for about 2 years. I haven't had a dip since the day I started vaping. I started with 12mg juice going through 2-3ml a day, now I am using about 5ml of 8mg juice. One of my friends also started vaping the same time as me. He would go through about 1.5 cans of General Snus a day. He vapes 3ml of 12mg juice a day and has cut down to 3-4 pouches daily. If you're having nicotine withdrawal symptoms, try to vape more or use a juice with higher nic concentration. Instead of having a dip every hour or two, I now vape every 5-10 minutes. In regards to the benefits of quitting smokeless tobacco, I no longer have sore gums. Good luck to you.

That is awesome! A great accomplishment for both of you. I get so excited seeing other people having successfully quit. Smoking is easy to quit with vaping IMO (not super easy but still). Might be different if that's the only thing you have been using. With smokeless there's a whole other aspect of withdrawal. First, you are used to an extremely high (if you are an avid user), steady and pretty much constant nicotine level, as opposed to the ups and downs with cig. And then you are used to having something in your mouth all the time, delivering flavor and leaving one behind for a while when you put it out. With an e-cig, pretty much everything you associate with smokeless tobacco will be gone, except for pure nicotine. You have to develop totally new habits and get used to a completely different sensation and system of nicotine delivery.

I'm still snus free and keeping at it! I have to say I feel very content right now, and have felt like that all through the evening and night. I'm very excited!

Great to see other former chewers here. I dipped Skoal Straight for about 18 years then switched to cope straight for 3 years. Always about a tin a day.

I started vaping (24 ml) around christmas and had some snus on hand for some extreme cravings. Haven't had any chew or snus in 3 weeks and vaping at 18 ml now. It's worked great so far!!! Funny that I have 2 tins of cope laying around the house and absolutely no desire to crack them open. Keep it up !!!

After 10 years of grizzly wintergreen and cope wintergreen long cut a tin or more a day for about 7 of those years...I picked up vaping about two years ago started as a hobby..after ten years I just got fed up with it and stuck to my gins on quiting smokeless tobacco and switched to vaping...still getting the nic om not going crazy and ive never been or felt better...gums dont hurt anymore

Fantastic! Congratulations! 18 years is more than swice as long as I have went on with tobacco. Seeing you quit is awesome motivation. 16 mg right now is the only thing I have (however I did recently order some 8 mg when I was drunk for some reason... may say it for the future, haha, but I'm afraid that will be way too weak), however, it works quite well. 24 mg would pretty much be the sweet spot though. I'll see if I can stick with 16 and move down, because with 16 mg, I can vape way more without it being too much, and it still will satisfy. Thank you!

Just awesome! Switching to vaping is pretty pain-free. The cravings do come up though, but they aren't that bad. As I wrote in my first post though, one week in I really got pretty severe withdrawals. No idea why, but my lip just started itching, and the only thing I could think about was getting a snus under my lip again. I hope it will be good this time, because until a week passed, I was completely content and fine. I'm thinking, if I get over that hill, it will be smooth sailing.

Right now I have no desire to ever put in a snus, it feels like. I feel just awesome.

Starting day 1 and 8 hours right now, snus free. Still thinking what to do with all the snus I have in my freezer. I could throw it out but it's a lot of money, lol. I sure don't wanna use it though.

Thank you both for your replies! For every post here my motivation gets an insane boost! I can do this!

Bah, here come the withdrawals.

I started on friday morning, drank a little on friday night, and two beers at saturday night. I feel really low, and have slept pretty badly. Woke up early and have been feeling completely drained. I have been drinking 3-4 cups of coffee a day at work for the whole working week, but only had half a cup yesterday, and one today, so it might be caffeine withdrawal combined with some tobacco withdrawal. I don't know.

But yeah, I feel pretty low. Very tired, a little bit edgy, but at the same time, more relaxed in a weird way. Will keep on with this though, as I don't wanna go back again. Thought about if I was overvaping, but I think not. I did go through quite a lot yesterday (like 6 ml of 16 mg juice), but I felt as if I was taking it pretty chill, nicotine-wise, compared to the amount I got from snus.

Smokey Mountain herbal snuff has pouches as well as loose products. They sell online as well as b&m in the US. Not sure about international. Might help someone reading this thread as well.
I actually bought some Onico yesterday:

onico_original_portion-3.jpg

Works quite well. Tastes a bit soapy, and not really like real snus, but the feel is just like a regular portion. Keeps me sane but doesn't help with the withdrawals that much sadly.

My husband and I don't dip, but a friend of my husband does! He was asking my husband about our Infernos. I'm going to pass the info in this thread along, and maybe it will help him decide to quit.
Absolutely! It isn't THAT difficult, but there are some tough times for sure. I actually felt better after drinking some coffee and going out for a long walk.

And now I think I have figured out something great to use together with vaping: nasal snuff!

Took a small toot right now and it actually calmed me down a tad. Not enough nicotine to really make a difference, but some good MAOI's that will help me taper down easier and get rid of the habit of having a snus under my lip. That may very well be the last nail in the coffin to get me to quit fully.

Use of nasal snuff is IMO quite a pain in the ..., at least when out and about (brown powder in your nose, having to wipe all the time etc.), so I will probably not make a habit out of it. But instead of reaching for a snus when I feel a severe craving, I can do this. Eventually maybe I can ditch the tobacco altogether.

For drinking, I like a strong menthol vape personally. Lol Even when a friend of mine smokes his menthol camels (I use to "love") i get sick of the smell and get nauseous. As for nic and caffeine, nicotine burns off caffeine. I chain vape 12mg-18mg juice and noticed it. Lower nic should do, but I still chain vape. Lol.. Oh well. I'm healthier and happier right? :p Btw, that MVP does look sick. I've always considered a mod like that but nvr pulled the trigger.. My provari would not let me.. More so my wallet and bills.. X)
