You CAN begin to save money after finding the ideal setup and a few favorite flavors of e-liquid.

The issue with many of us is this often becomes as much a hobby as well as a means to quit smoking.

After 1.5 years since I quit smoking, I've found the perfect battery setup (two Provari's), several fully capable backups, plenty of batteries for all, and two battery chargers. I've also got all the juice delivery attachments that I will ever need. (twelve pyrex cartotanks, several months worth of my favorite cartomizers, a few clearomizers with replacement heads, and two RBA tanks)

I have enough commercially made juice to last me at least a couple of months, and I have a large 500 ml bottle of un-flavored nicotine e-liquid and concentrated flavorings that I can make my own DIY liquids.

I could go several months or longer without spending ANY money on vaping, which is a good thing because I am currently unexpectantly unemployed after losing my job after over 30 years of dedicated and loyal service.
sorry about your job... I learned on Jan of this year, I had 60 days to find another job in the company, or I was out. I put in 98 job requests, got 4 interviews and one job offer. It isn't easy out there. Just put in for anything you are remotely qualified for and be prepared to learn whatever it is fast and furious. The days of putting in for just the jobs you are ideally qualified for are long gone.

Ok, just to be clear my OP should have been read read tongue in cheek. I was being a tad facetious.
heh either or. I personally spent $1,400 when I started in November. See just above for why that was a bad idea....
But, if I can stick to my current vaping budget like I have been, then I will break even in May!
And that is a $200/month budget. Sort of. I have a $100/month budget and allow a rollover effect up to $200. Any over that goes to reducing the amount I need to break even. It's working very well so far.

I've spent about $1000 in the last month ramping up on vaping supplies.

All kinds of batts, atty's e-liquids, etc. etc. etc.

Before that I did RYO cigarettes, which come out to a little over a dollar a pack.
I converted my daughter and her fiancee to RYO, and they went from being hand-to-mouth to having over $1000 in the bank in just 3 months (cigs are $10/pack here, end they each smoke about 1PPD)

My wife and my other daughter still smoke store-boughts, to the tune of $600/mo between the two of them.

I am trying to convert all of them to vaping, and I will find the right equipment and flavors to get them all to switch.

But here's the important point: I HATE THE FACT THAT I AM A SMOKER! I WILL SPEND WHATEVER IT TAKES TO GET OFF THEM. $1000 IS CHEAP COMPARED TO WHAT I'VE SPENT ON TOBACCO. THAT IS IRRELEVANT - I WOULD SPEND WHATEVER I NEED TO TO NOT SMOKE - NOT TO SAVE MONEY!!!!!!! And for me, e-ciggs are the only thing that has made me say "I can do this!"

I've done cold-turkey, hypnotism, zyban (only once thank god) and NONE of them worked. I'm already way down on cigarettes (not quit yet) But I now know that using e-cigs I CAN quit, and that's worth everything to me.

I would gladly pay twice what cigarettes cost just to not smoke cigarettes. I won't have to (once things settle down). In the mean time I will buy anything that gets me through this.

I did my calculation the other day, at about 8 months of vaping I have saved about $1200. I think I've easily spent that much on vaping... I've bought a lot of juice, hardware, and supplies in that time... Not a money saver yet, but I rationalize it by saying that it is worth it to get off of cigarettes for good without any side effects.

Its a trend for many people. I know people who have to get the latest and greatest I phone, Ipod, Ipad, or anything else with an I in front of it. As for me Im still using Ego type devices and carrying a LG Remarq phone.

I don't even do that...I just squirt e juice on my car exhaust and stand over the steam.

I'm 2 1/2 months into vaping. I've saved $560 from not buying analogs but spent 3k on vaping gear. I have however, found a setup and several juices that I am very happy with at this point. Most of my unused mods I will start selling off to hopefully get me closer to getting in the black. In the long run it will be cheaper.

Startup costs are high... Once you get that squared away, the spending is all mostly on stuff you WANT, rather than what you NEED. :)

Toys, toys and more toys. It's a hard cycle to break.

Very sorry to hear about that. A shame there isn't a developed market for "personal vaping coach/consultant". Some of the more experienced members here could possibly make a living with their knowledge.

Based on what I've read of his posts on this forum, I'd hire Baditude in a heartbeat if I ran a vaping related business.

Simple, take inventory of your stash, figure out how much you have still in the wrapper and how long it would last you. Use up 1/2 of your stash before re-ordering anything.

Also (heresy alert) stay off ECF for a few months, stop reading about the latest new OHHH SHINEY!!!

Make your own mod!! I just threw together a 18650 box mod out of spare bits and pieces of old PVs to use up my protected batteries that won't work in the new LiMn only electronics. May be a problem if they last a long as my original egos (no 5 button puch even), I still have one that's over 3 years old and works fine. :)

"personal vaping coach/consultant", that would be perfect, and I am unfortunately also "in the market"

Sorry to hear that Baditude, glad you got your gear in order though. I know this month, October, has been one of my most expensive since I invested in carto tanks (glass/pyrex). Those do add up. Plus I got some extra Nicotine to stock up on. Next month shouldn't be bad though. This months gonna seem like forever since I spent too much money so early on, but oh well I got what I got and I'm happy to have it. I'm still glad I don't smoke!! Happy Vaping All!!
