I was told to post this here, so what I'm going to do is combine both of the threads I posted into one and have my other two deleted.

Basically, I'm a machinist. I'm new to mechanicals (somewhat) and I would really like to make a high end quality device but I don't have $200-$300 to spend on one.

What I need is this: Details about the buttons and connections. Dimensions that center pins should be, any and all threading info (which I did find on a sticky in this forum) and any and all technical drawings of standard mechanical mods that AREN'T going to get me in trouble to stealing or copying ideas/designs.

**I am not looking to steal or copy any designs. I just want to research some layouts to help me in designing my own**
***I am not looking to make small or large quantities of any devices for the purposes of selling them. I want to make personal devices for myself. Unless of course I make something so awesome that I have to sell it.***

Anyways, that's basically it. I'm in the research and development stages at this point. I'm just trying to absorb as much information about mechanicals as I can. I do have one on the way so I can tinker with it and a friend has a couple sigelei's that he said I can tear down and inspect with calipers/mics.

I will be looking to either turn some bar stock on a Haas turning center, or doing some plate flip style machining on some haas mills. So if anyone has any tips about machining tubes for mech mods, end caps, etc.. that would also be helpful.

Thanks in advance guys! (and/or gals! ;) )

So as not to get myself in trouble for linking to any specific drawings etc. - I've learned an incredible amount of knowledge by plugging this line into a Google Image search and a Bing image search. The latter will net you more schematics at the top. The same key words in a Google web search will link you to some very helpful forums and such.
e cig+mechanical+mods+diagram
If you need more, drop the word mechanical and/or diagram.

I'll definitely try this. I feel like I've searched every combination of e-cig related word in google the past couple of weeks. I was starting to think that these drawings I need are a more closely guarded secret than I thought they might be. With good reason as well.

I really just need to see how the buttons work and how to get the right throw and distance mostly. Everything else is essentially just a tube.

Thank you nonetheless

*update* So after doing some searching, I have found a couple schematics and diagrams that have helped a little. What I think I really need to see is an detailed exploded view of a standard bottom button setup. I'll be looking for that.

The only way to make the "perfect" mech-mod is to actually use them.

there are no shortcuts, get your hands on a few mods, low end as well as high end.
Spend some time with them; use them, abuse them, and break them....

Diagrams will only get you so far.

All the high end mods out there, became what they are because the creator wasn't happy with what was currently available.

THAT is your starting point.

I wish you luck.:toast:

Yeah I've got some cheapies headed my way for the purpose of tinkering and use. Once I fully understand the correct ins and outs of making proper connections, I'll be in business. Then it's on to design and hopefully I can start cutting some material shortly after that.

if you're talking about sigelei mods, than you will have the perfect example of what not to make ... lol

Haha so I've heard. The one I got that I'm going to use is the Sentinel V3 clone, which I heard a lot of good things about. The one's I'm going to tinker with will indeed be those sigelei ones. But it's mostly just to get some ideas for how to design a switch.
