I want to take one of my IGO L attys and try and rainbow the stainless steel. I work with jewelry but NEVER use stainless. I am wondering since i have a propane/oxy torch would heating the stainless steel bring out the rainbow/oxidized layer? Wondering if anyone knows if quenching (dipping in water) after heating would be the best bet? Any/all input would be great, would really like to experiment with this.

I did this with a Stainless Steel drip tip I have. It will start with colors and if you go longer it will turn a glossy grey with a little color. I like it. I tried it on my Phoenix atty though, not realizing that the cap and screw area both were pressed in. Both fell out and wont stay in anymore so I pretty much destroyed it. Color came out nice though!

On my SS drip tip (hourglass shape) I heated it untill the skinny middle was red and quenched it (not for any reason more than I wanted too cool it off quick so I could look at it) And it was banded in blue and gunmetel black and maroon. I heated it again the same and it came out yellowish with maroon and purple, but muted color more with a gloss grey over it. There is some splotches of black, I suppose where some impurities were.
On the phoenix I turned it completly red, and it came out pretty colorful, but like I said I didn't realize the threads and the cap were pressed in, so now it's ruined because they are just loose and fall out, Unless I can fiqure out how to shrink the middle tube onto them.

Very nice!! Love how it turned out!
Just be carefull on the Igo. Make sure that nothing falls apart on it like my Phoenix. Check for seams where stuff might be pressed in. Also of course I'm sure you know, only the cap not the base....

the top cap on the IGO L is fully stainless it's only one solid piece, the phoenix is part stainless part plated base metal.

Just did another one to a shorty stainless drip tip, turned out pretty cool as well....now the choice comes...when to do the IGO...and then should i do it to the Curve...lol
