If I remove some of this mesh coil, will it raise the ohms?

If you buy a 10 Foot Extension Cord from the 99 Cent store that is about as thick as a Soda Straw, then try to run a Drill Motor with it, Doesn't the Cord get Hot? And the Drill Motor labors to turn at about 1/2 the Speed it Should?

But if you buy a 10 Foot Cord that has a Bundle of Copper Strands as Big as your Thumb, something you could Jumpstart a Semi with, then the cord Never gets Hot. And the Drill Motor hums along at Full Speed.

Why?

Because the 99 Cent Extension Cord has a Higher Resistance. And It's High Resistance is because it has a Smaller Wire
inside.

So it sounds like Less Metal (per a given Length) to Conduct Electricity = Higher Resistance. More Metal (for the Same Length) = Lower Resistance.

And Doesn't that make sense when you build on an RTA? A Big Fat 22ga Wire Build will have a Very Low Resistance. Whereas a Tiny 32ga Build (of the same Length of Wire) will have a Much Higher Resistance.

Now to experiment with how much to remove...

Seems like you could Apply some Backyard Engineering to it.

That picture shows a Mesh with 9 Rows of Holes. And 10 Rows of Metal between the Hole Rows.

If you remove 1 Row of Metal, then it would be Interesting to see if the Resistance Increased 1/10th of the Resistance of the Mesh before you cut anything?

The one I'm trying is .2Ω coil... I want to try for .5Ω... Maybe .4Ω???

BTW. You could Simplify things if you just Cut Away some of the Mesh from the Middle. Leaving something that looked like this...

It would be Easier to do that than you Cut and Entire Row out. But then you would have an Area in the Middle of the Mesh that has Higher Resistance than on the Outer Edges. And that would Cause the Mesh to Heat Up more in the Middle.

ei: A "Hot Spot".

IMO, the opposite will occur.
You would need to ADD to the mesh to raise the resistance from .2Ω.

If you remove material, the resistance will fall lower.
ie, 10 wraps of 22AWG Kan @3.5mm is .7Ω, If you remove 5 wraps, the resistance falls to about .3Ω.

But if you Remove Wraps from a Build, aren't you just Shortening the Distance the Electricity has to Travel? Kinda like taking that Extension Cord from the 99 Cent Store and Cutting it in Half.

Fine if you Only need 5 Feet. But what happens if you want to say with a 10 Cord?

Yes, I agree, it would reduce/lower the resistance.
OP would like to increase/raise the resistance.

All I'm say'n is if you look at this picture below, the Distance from the Two Wires holding the Mesh Doesn't Change.

So if instead of Mesh, if there was a piece of Straight 22ga Wire. And if the OP asked if the 22ga Wire was Replaced by the Same Length 30ga Wire, wouldn't the Resistance Increase?

Wouldn't we all say it would?

But I could be wrong. Maybe with mesh it's different? I do have some mesh that I could test this on, but I don't feel like trying to find it. :p

Good example, Thank you.

30mm of 26AWG VS 15mm of 26AWG.

The mesh is not getting less dense, so not changing from 26AWG to 30AWG, just now containing less 26AWG material.
Another coil/mesh strip added in series would increase resistance.
