What was the catalyst that got you to quit smoking/start vaping?

Though I'd like to say that I made the responsible decision to quit smoking for health reasons after 15 years of smoking cigs, what actually got me to quit (and start vaping), was a motorcycle insurance ad in a magazine. It was a full page spread of a picture of some guy tucked down on a beautiful vintage motorcycle, flying down the highway. I said "that looks fun, I want to do that", but I couldn't justify the expense of purchasing and insuring a motorcycle. I thought, "I could afford it if I quit smoking", and that was my first step towards quitting.

Once I learned how much $$$ I could save every month by vaping instead of smoking (not to mention all the other benefits), I made the change. I researched, ordered my devices and juices, and quit smoking cigs the day that all my stuff was delivered. The next day I registered for a motorcycle training course. A month later I hadn't smoked a single cig since quitting, was convinced that I could stick with vaping long-term, and had passed my training course and received my motorcycle license. Two weeks after that, I had a motorcycle. While there was an initial investment on riding gear, my monthly payment + insurance + monthly vaping costs are roughly equivalent to what I was spending on cigs every month. It's been almost two years and I'm still vaping and riding and not smoking and loving every minute of it. I've also gradually stepped my nic down from 24mg to 6mg, and am about to start vaping 3mg before hopefully quitting nic all together.

I'm interested in your story of what REALLY motivated you to quit smoking. Not just the health reasons, or the savings reasons, but what was the actual catalyst that got you to quit smoking, even if those things played a part in your decision?

Shame, vanity and a dash of long term health effects got me motivated. I heard my voice start to change - there's no bigger giveaway as a female smoker as that raspy voice. I was also starting to have to constantly clear my throat to talk. As a mostly closeted smoker, this was too much for me for to continue. Also, I always have my dad on my mind who passed away of heart failure. I've tried to quit countless times and vaping has been the smoothest transition yet!

I have a lot of reasons. Health, cost, neighbour(I live in an apartment) complaining of my cigarette smoke getting into her apartment, fear of eviction(the stains and smell that I can't smell), fear of the apartment complex going smokefree, hating myself for smoking. I've wanted to quit for so long and tried but it never worked.

tonight's top ten reasons to quit/switch:

10 - you stink and you know it
9 - you have trouble sneaking a lighter on the plane and you can't smoke on board
8 - the cost of cigs is out of control
7 - your health insurance dinged you for smoking
6 - you are getting tired of being shamed by your friends and family
5 - your fingers are yellow, you cough up disgusting substances in the am
4 - you are winded walking to your car on a flat surface.
3 - you realize that you are shortening your life by your actions.
2 - alternatives like patches, meds and nic gum didn't quite get you there
1 - You have seen first hand, in person the ungodly and painful process of death caused by cancer.
