I had been smoking for 60+ years and I really never wanted to quit. When I started a carton of premier cigs cost $1.50 or .15 cents a pack. On a lark, when I was buying a carton of cigs($43.60) they had a Blu there so I bought one. I tried it and was not impressed at all. I did a little research and found that a little more up scale type of e-cig might help since I had a choice of flavors. Bought a Kangor starter kit on Nov. 1, 2013, started using it on Nov. 2 and I have not wanted an analog since. Best move I have ever made.

Smoked for nearly 38 years and got tired of the smell, the inability to breathe, the burn marks in my clothes and floors, and my doctor's nagging me to quit. I had vaped 3 years ago, but they were the Njoy cigalikes, which caused me to choke more than the regular cigs, so I went back to smoking until I discovered an Ego clone sold in a local tobacco shop.

I bought the PV along with some tobacco-flavored 24mg juice, filled up the clearo, and vaped away. I DIDN'T CHOKE! YIPPEE! Then my cig smoking went down from 1 1/2 pid to 6--literally overnight! I slowly reduced that to 5, then 4, 3, 2, 1...and I haven't had an analog for over 2 months. vaping really did help me quit the stinkies.

What was your motivation for quitting ? What made you stick with your decision ? I am a mother and my husband and I will be trying to conceive soon. I didn't smoke with my son and I didn't smoke around my son. I decided if I was going to bring another life into this world I had to quit before we got pregnant. I know the health risks of smoking while pregnant - smoking period. I knew it was time for a change. I also wanted to be a healthier person, I work in the ER and I am a nurse so I needed to set a good example for myself and others. I also haven't been smoking for a long, long time. I started at 19 and I'm almost 23 but I was smoking 2+ packs a day (45-55 cigarettes) and that's a lot. My job is stressful and I used that as an excuse for too long. My motivation is my family, health and trying to get pregnant in a few months. I won't even start trying until I'm off of my vape. I am a runner and hopefully I will notice a big change in my breathing ! I have saved $600 so far since I decided to quit. That is amazing ! I will never smoke another cigarette again.

I've been trying to quit off and on for years, but I had to watch my mother die of lung cancer in 2012. She was a heavy smoker, and it's not even a question it caused her illness. I took care of her, and I saw the disease progress day to day.

For me, it's not smoking might kill me, it WILL, eventually.

I watch what smoking has done to my parents and their health and I just couldn't bear the idea of putting my own kids through that. Not to mention the smell and I was embarrassed by being a smoker - most people didn't know I smoked. I always smoked outside, and my kids would come around the house to rattle off all the dangers of smoking to me. This was the first thing I could find to get me to be able to quit smoking without being just a horrible person in the process.

Well said...I understand what it feel like to feel embarrassed about smoking...

I guess this is a good topic to put a first post. I have tried to quit multiple times and have had limited success. Last time I tried an e-cigarette and had multiple problems with it. This time I got a vaporizer and have less side effects. I have a zillion reasons for quitting but I used to love smoking. Ultimately I quit on Jan 9th because my aunt was having part of her lung removed due to lung cancer; it was also my mom's birthday and we spent it in the hospital waiting for my aunt's surgery to be completed. My mom smoked for years and now absolutely hates it. For those reasons I picked Jan. 9 as my quit day.

I had a 22yr love affair with the cigarette I loved smoking a pack or more a day! Then came my daughter 2 yrs ago and the love affair with smoking turned sour. I started getting sick of the usual things ... The smell, the wheezing and sinus troubles, the stigmatization, etc. only a week in to vaping and surprised at how quickly I am feeling better.

I wanted to stop killing myself with cigarettes so when I heard about vaping I immediately got one. The problem was the store I went to sold me a cheap 650mah non adjustable. I even asked if I should get the variable voltage twist battery and he said no, you'll be ok with this one. Needless to say it wasn't ok. I went back and had to spend more money and get the VV battery. I think that is a problem with keeping people on vaping and not going back to smoking. Most stores (in my experience) do not give good advice and seem to just want to make a quick sale.

I ended up getting quite sick this year and it felt like it was all in my lungs. I was sick for over 3 weeks when I finally went to the doctor and they did a chest x-ray to find that I had "walking pneumonia". After a huge lecture from the doc, I decided to start thinking about quitting but I had already tried the "gas station e-cigs" and those didnt even come close to satisfying me. Then I walked into a store and the clerk was puffing on a big mod and he gave me a quick education session. He even sanitized the tip and let me hit his. I was blown away and decided to pick up a nice vape for myself. After a couple weeks of puffing on it, I noticed I like the flavor much more than analogs and just quit smoking them altogether. Now I vape a lot every day but do not have cravings for cigs anymore!

There were no health issues even in my late 30s. I started in my teens. My doctor was surprised that I was smoker (1/2 to 1 pack day Dunhills). No blood pressure issues, no trouble breathing, etc. I was still playing rec bball 3-4 times a week, swimming laps, weight training etc. Then my son came along, he was born sick because my wife had the flu when she had him and then he later developed asthma when he was over 1 years old. I thought I could just go smoke outdoors, and it wouldn't affect him. Every time I came near him after a hit, he would cough badly. Long story short, I did it for him. I'm not going to BS, I love my Dunhills but my boy means everything to me. Now my son isn't coughing around me anymore, etc. I have no idea if he just got better or it was smell of cigs on me. But I don't regret it. Save me money and vaping is pretty interesting with all the gadgets, juices, etc.

First, was the fact I started smoking in 1974 and was up to 2 2 1/2 packs a day. second, my wife who quit 18 years ago. third, I resolved in my mind that it was time, I tried the cold turkey thing, the patch, even chatix, none of which worked. A friend turned me on to vaping and wow, its been almost 3 weeks. and I have zero urge to smoke.

in between the ice ages
Tired of being the golden goose that kept getting kicked around for more tax money. Got tired of being one of the few groups that it was legally OK to abuse. Got tired of having the world's ills blamed on me for my bad habit. Tired of my health failing faster than my advancing age would account for. Though I didn't mind being a social pariah, since most of my friends were also out in the freezing weather smoking.!
