Common sense saves the day, but watching the news each day illustrates how short the supply is.

I think what Mike meant was that many of the folks featured on the news lack common sense.
I agree but common sense is not too common anymore
I think these type of posts are lame. Not that the original poster is lame, but the whole idea that we have to post rants on this, just silly.
I guess because I am a libertarian, and I believe I should be able to put whatever I want to in my body, as long as it is not infringing on others freedoms to do the same.
The need to point out that some people are different, and will always be discourteous smokers, or vapers, or swear in front of your kids, or or or or...blah blah blah
I was OK with not smoking near non-smokers. I was always, what I considered, a considerate smoker. In fact, I try to be considerate in whatever activity I'm taking part in. I don't want to sound all prideful, and self righteous, but I think that's an important virtue. "Do unto others", and all that. That said, I see a lot of people in the vaping community that insist on pushing the envelope in public places, and with smoking restricted areas. While we, as "vapers", are fairly convinced that vaping is far, FAR, less dangerous than smoking cigarettes, the general public may not be as convinced, or they may not be familiar with e-cigarettes in general, and therefore apprehensive as to the effects it may have on their health. In my opinion, it's important to educate these people about what we're doing, and why we're doing it. BUT, is it irresponsible of us to just walk around indoors, in restaurants, on the bus, on the train, etc., and force people to accept what we're doing as "OK"? Or, would it be better to get the word out some other way? I'm not sure what the best approach is, but I know that when someone else's activity infringes on my comfort zone, I become defensive. I think that that's a natural reaction that we, as humans, have ingrained in us. And, I don't think that forcing our vapor on others is going to produce a different reaction in "outsiders".
Like I said, I don't know what the best approach is, but I do see a lot of you that take the time to ask before you vape, which I think is the considerate thing to do. Then there are those that walk into Starbucks, and start puffing away like they're trying to start a revolution. I guess it comes down to this: does anyone REALLY need to vape that badly, that they can't wait until they're bus ride is over, or until they have an opportunity to go outside? People are still going to see your device, and will most likely ask questions, if they feel comfortable. They're NOT going feel comfortable, and will probably just get defensive, if you're going to blow it their face, so to speak. I think we need a positive message, and an educational one, if our habit/hobby/common joy is to be accepted by others outside of the vaping community. And, it may go a long way in our fight against severe regulation. Brute force never yields that kind of message.
So, I would just like to prevail upon people to consider how they want to be seen as a vaper. The "I don't have any .....s to give" attitude isn't helping anyone, especially you, and the rest of the vaping community.
<end rant>
Yep, if common sense were allowed to rule all would be ok, but we see less and less common sense everyday in all parts of our lives.
I agree at least to a point with the op. Everyone should be able to refrain from vaping at times. Openly vaping where its not allowed and is likely to be met with hostility will not win us vaping advocates. BUT, neither will I pretend there is something wrong with vaping and only vape behind closed doors. There are places they don't even want one to vape thereWhen they tell me I cant vape in the privacy of my own hotel room or cruise cabin or they will charge me a cleaning fee
(for cleaning what????) they've gone too far and I will and do vape in both. When I'm outdoors in a park with NO one close to me I will vape because telling me its against the rules to vape outdoors in the open is totally rediculous.
I've stealth vaped LOTS of different places vaping is not allowed.
If there is no rule or law against vaping then if I wish, I will openly vape where ever that might be. Several times I've run into people that have told me what I'm doing is not allowed. As politely as possible I tell them I am not smoking and what I am doing is not against the rules. I don't blow vapor in peoples faces and I'm considerate to those with small children. Again, I try to use some common sense even where there is no rules against vaping but I do beleive that seeing us vape helps educate a lot of people that have been led to believe that vaping is something very different from what it really is![]()
I hate people that just do it "because its not illegal". I know people that purposely vape while pumping gas, vape every restaurant and store and bar they go in and throw a mini-fit whenever anyone asks them to stop.
The point is this, you aren't raising awareness doing that. 90% of the people observing you are going to think your a jerk, and are going to want some sort of restriction in place not because of secondhand smoke or a smell or anything like that, but just because their primary introduction into what vaping is was that one jerk the other day.

Well said, I'm not as polite as you, I classify people that vape carelessly everywhere as inconsiderate douchebags that give vapers a bad name. Even if it is demonstrated that secondhand vaping is as harmless as secondhand gum chewing, I don't want to smell your stinky maple pecan juice when I'm standing in whatever line I happen to be in.
