Same stuff...although depending on how it's processed it may or may not be clean. I never wash my rayon (Sally's Cellucotton)

Also...wick it tight in the coil or it will not work properly. It's the opposite of cotton...shrinks when wet...so it needs to be wicked tight. If it's not, you will taste the wick and have poor results.

Good morning, Harsoe. I'm interested in the material that you are using for your wick. I've been using rayon (Sally's Beauty Supply Viscose/Cellucotton) for a while now and it is by far the best wick I've ever used.

I'm going to refer you to the Rayon thread here: Rayon Part 2. That has a lot of the tips and tricks for using rayon as a wicking material, and I highly recommend reading through it. I'm also going to tag @JeremyR because he is the expert on Rayon wicks. In fact he is the reason we even use it as a wick material at all. He was the first person to do the research and try using it, and because of him there are a lot of us who enjoy a wick that requires much less maintenance than most other wicks. I'm sure he'll have some questions for you about the material that you are using and can help get everything straightened out.

Yarn is not recommended due to finishes applied for making it into yarn and also to pretreatments to improve dying of the fiber. These additives and finishes are a problem.

Only raw Rayon staple fiber is recommended. It is fresh with no additional additives.

It takes many chemicals to turn raw Rayon into cloths and such. Mostly the dying components and treatments to allow the fiber to take dye. Also other lubricants added for spinning into yarn.

Hi guys, I have questions about wicks material. I work on yarn factory run with rayon viscose. Is that same material with rayon for wicks? I tried to boiled the rayon but the taste from rayon is still stick.
Thanks you

But yes Rayon/ viscose raw fiber, graded for purity is preferred.

What is the state of the Rayon when received at your factory? Before processing.

If it turns out to be good raw fiber you may be wicking too tight.

A quality Rayon should need no washing or boiling whatsoever. You can actually taste the fiber and see if its a neutral taste also.

Please let me know if I can help you identify a proper Rayon to use in Indonesia...

Hello everyone, sorry for late reply. I'm so thankfull with all your opinions and informations. I'll try to make a resume with all your opinions. Maybe id like to described before. I'm working in the spinning mill or yarn factory with rayon viscose for the base material. Then I made trial wick with the rayon viscose fiber because I thought the process for making the fiber was same, from trees to fibres.
First I used directly without boiled up, but the chemical tasted in. Then boiled up the sliver ( fibre with parareled fibres with mechanical process).
I send picture sample of rayon viscose that already boil and those all raw material
Thanks before

Cellucotton is the best wicks until now for me. That why I tried to use rayon viscose from raw material of rayon viscose yarn. But I think the material is different. Maybe for information, raw material I use to trial come from south pacific viscose or from lenzing Austria. Thanks for your information JeremyR, its good to have a discussion with all of you.

...only mechanical process to pararell the fibre....

Could something on the machine like machine oil be getting on the rayon? Could that be causing this issue for you?

I'd imagine that the types of machines used to process rayon for yarn purposes would be different than the types of machines used to process rayon for cosmetic purposes.

I would avoid the factory rayon. In my opinion it has something on or in it that could be quite harmful to your health. It is simply not worth taking the chance. I would stick with Cellucotton.

If it tastes bad, definitely don't use it. It probably already has pretreatment/ lubrication when you receive it, to prepare it for spinning.. At any rate if it taste like chemicals its not right.
I got "Graham Proffessional" Cellucotton from sally's beauty supply and it tasted like total ...., it was like cotton x 10 but grosser. The taste contaminated my juice from dripping onto it. I had to trow it out. I wicked it nice and tight and not so tight. Wicked like a beast I just couldn't get over the taste. Did I get the wrong type?

Well they do have two versions cotton and Rayon.

No there shouldnt be any bad taste from the cellucotton. Rayon is a neutral taste mostly, with a little woody or nuttiness. Very pure taste to the juice with it, so obviously there was something wrong with what you got.

Rayon absorbs very well if you touch the Wick with dirty hands it will contaminate the Wick and carry over to the juice for a while till you vape it off... even skin oils can cause a bad taste. Always have clean hands.

The problem with Sally's is that it's beauty supply they have tons of chemicals for hair stylist in there and many aromas. The box as you saw is unsealed in the store. It is very possible you got a bad batch. Stored by some broken open bottles of perm stuff or something and the smell got into the fibers. Also how long it was sitting in Sally's storage and stuff affects how long the fibers can absorb scents from the atmosphere.

Most haven't had any problems but as listed above its possible.
