Ok guys, I'm having issues with my two rba's, I have a phoenix A7 and a choice rba. Now I'm no pro at rebuilding but I'm not a noob by any means. I have rebuilt these every way possible and I just can get them to taste as good as just your regular old drip atty. now is this just how it is with these? Rebuild for convenience or can you make them taste as good? I'm lost and about to just go back to the old drip atty's. I've done SS wicks, silica wicks and hybrid wicks (silica and ss mesh) I'm using 400 & 500 mesh with 32g kanthal. I'm doing a side by side comparison using ectoplasma, and its like my juice taste watered down in my RBA's but pure in my factory drip atty... Please help

Rebuildables should taste a million ways better, there are multiple ways to rebuild and some taste better than others, I have never thrown a hybrid wick in my rba, I stick to stricly silica in my drippers and SS in my genesis'.

Shorts, hotspots, ohms, voltage, device, pg/vg ratio, way to many things could affect it.

What ohms do you shoot for at what voltage?

Try this: drip a few drops directly onto your coil while using ss mesh. Vape that. See if the flavor improves. If the difference is significant compared to when you put juice in the tank and rely on your mesh to suck juice up, the blame is on your wick.

A picture of your build helps too.

Sorry I should be more clear.. These are not genesis style with a tank but just rebuildable drip atty's

You need to give the ss a bit to season in the juice. Usually the first 1-2 ml of juice taste a bit off or muted. Once the juice really gets into the ss it should start tasting better. I have a chobra that I have ran about 30ml of dragon fruit diy that tastes amazing. The more I use it the better it gets. Just give it some time to get the flavor going.

AOKP running on the Gnex.

Can a coil be too tight on silica?

In my opinion, yes a coil can be too tight, and that's a mistake alot of people make,
When you wrap your coil make sure you snug it but don't choke the silica with your kanthal.

Keep trying you'll get it, just practice and trail and error, to each there own.

I've seen people put a paper clip in with the silica then wrap the coil around it all, then remove the paper clip so there is a little bit of room.

Done that done it all.. I swear I just can't get it to taste right.. Maybe it's just the attys themselves?? And I'm not crazy lol I've had ppl try them side by side and they say the flavor is more pure in the factory ones.. Maybe I just suck at this I dunno but they are built right

Not saying you suck, but if they were built correctly you would get a good taste, not muted there has to be something off on your rebuilding equation, what ohms @ what voltage ? Heavy vg or pg?

Hope you can get it to work. Been using rebuildables for a good 9 months and I only had issues my first week. Make sure you get your 5th post and post in the rba section lots of good people there. Good luck.

The way the air hole line up with the coil has a lot to do with flavor and vapor production. When you wrap the coil around the silica wick put a needle next to the wick so the wire won't choke the wick. Wick should move freely through the coil. After you attach the coil it will be on one side of the posts. Make sure you have enough wick to lay in the bottom of the atty. When you attach the cap make sure air holes are right in line with coil. I find their is a short break in period . When you add juice don't flood that causes problems , make sure wick isn't obstructing air hole, make sure when you vape air hole is pointing up. If none of that works slowly spin top in small increments till atty vapes properly. Generally air holes are right in front of coil. Good luck and I hope this helps

Typical 70/30 pg vg.. And sometimes 100% vg (rare) coils between 1.5 and 2 ohms 3.8-4.8 volts..

Do you torch your silica wick before use? Thank you so much for the responses by the way

Nope no torching here, only diffrence is that I rock a 1.1-1.2 ohm @ 4.1 - 3.7v

Like stated above make sure your coils get air by lining up your airhole with your coils.
More airflow to your coils will get you better vapor and flavor, if you are still having issues after a few trys ill get a tutorial going for you with pictures.

One tip I could give you is dont use an insane amount of silica, just enough to wick and get a good wrap going, with the 2mm I would just fold in half and wrap your coil man.
