Taste is subjective. With that said, where is your sweet spot? I mean, some people want hot vapor, others want cool. What voltage/resistance is comfy to you? I like around 9W. There are various ways to reach 9W. Lower resistance or higher voltage (depending on hardware). IMO if you're going with 1.5ohm coils, 3.8-4.2 is ideal. Better yet, get a Kick or dna 12-equipped mod and set it for the watts and it doesn't matter the resistance (within specs).

I'm using an rba on my VW bottomfeed box, and I couldn't tell you the resistance of the coil. My watts are set where I like it.

So I was wondering what kind of amp limit would I need to run a genesis style atomizer with a 1.2-1.5 ohm coil at the best average voltage. Can anybody help me with this? Also what kind of voltage is around the best to use with a genesis atomizers generally?

To answer your question directly, a 2.5 amp limit @ 1.5 Ohms would get you just over 9 watts at about 3.7 volts. This would be a good vape IMO.

I do agree with Dougiestyle that all of this is subjective as to what you are going to like, and also dependent upon what juice you are using. I also believe that surface area of the coil plays a role, and therefore I prefer a coil with more wraps.

Also, you can use an Ohm's Law Caclulator such as this one to figure out the numbers: Ohm's Law Calculator

I like vaping at about 9-10 watts on cartos and my bottom coil clearos. I don't actually have an RBA yet but I have some being shipped to me. I was wondering how 10 watts on a phoenix bottom coil translates flavorwise to an RBA. Would I get about the same flavor? or would I have to bump the watts up? I'm just worried that my young june LV won't have the sufficient amp limit for me to get the best out of a genesis RBA. Btw thanks for the reply man!

With a VV mod you can up the resistance of the coil by using smaller guage kanthal like 34awg and/or wrapping more coils. 2.5 ohms @ 5 volts gives you 10 watts at only 2 Amps. I cannot compare the performance to clearos cuz I've never used them, but I always preferred cartos at around 8.5 watts, but I like Gen. RBA's at around 9.5-10 watts. Again, subjective and juice dependent.

Once you get into a rebuildable you might be surprised at how yer tastes can change a bit.

I used a 6v unregulated mod with 3.2ohm atomizer (around 11watts-ish) for like 2 years. When I went to a rebuildable and VV I now find that I live in the 2.2ohm coil at about 4.2v range (about 8 ish watts) and only sometimes go to the 9+ watts rarely, usually when it's stressful or I just need a quick bigger hit....

It's all kinda subjective and hard to say what will work best for you but I can say that a rebuildable is a far different world compared directly with the regular cartomizers and atomizer :2c:

THANK YOU GUYS. ECF is too good to us noobies. I'll just go for the 34awg or higher then. Can you make a 2.5 ohm coil with 34awg on a genesis?

Absolutely, I do a 4/5 coil using 34g on everything I have. with my diameter of wick it gives me a 2.2ohm coil and as it "breaks in" gets right about 2.4 -2.5

I use nichrome 80:

PnJ Resources, LLC : Nichrome 80
great price for 100ft, that's like 400 coils!!!

I know it's not A-1 but:
Kanthal A resistance heating wire - 34 AWG - 0.16 mm / 0.006" diameter | eBay

Nichrome works awesome for all of mine.....some people say they like the taste or "workability" of Kanthal wire but I couldn't really tell a difference. Others have addressed a safety concern with the fact that the Kanthal alloy has aluminum in it.....meh, who cares...

Point is just cause somebody says it's "the best" doesn't mean you will necessarily think it's the best.

for $8.50 for 100ft of nichrome from PNJ, I would just get some so yer not out a ton of dough if you don't like it and 100ft is a LOT of wire......you can mess up and redo it a bunch and not worry about running out :p and it ships really fast.

I have found that it varies from device to device, usually depending on the air flow. I have a DFW Ratank that requires very little volts/amps. It tends to produce a lot of vapor at lower volts, and the throat hit is warm and deep. If you crank it up too high the throat hit gets too heavy, and not from hot spots, just a serious lung punch. I believe each unit is built to be mastered by it's owner, and only you can find the "spot". Not only is taste subjective, so is throat hit, and heat. I have several devices which perform differently, I reach for the one I am in the mood for.
