Hello everyone! I'm happy to start posting on this forum. So onto my question. I have a Kanger Variable Voltage eGo-style battery, 1000mAh, 3.2 - 4.8 Volts. So I've been using a Protank, various Clearomizers, and I'm ready to move onto something better. I'm looking into RBAs. I know that eGo batterys aren't exactly ideal for RBAs, but I'm experienced in electric work. I own an ohmmeter, voltmeter, watt-meter, all of that crap. As far as I know, RBAs are ideally installed onto a mod with an ohm-checker and high voltage potential. For what I would be building, I wouldn't need high voltage or an ohm-checker on my battery/mod. Does anyone have any reasons why I should invest in a real mech mod? Thanks!

I use mini RDAs on my evod vv batteries without issue. If you are not looking to subohm and know how to build a coil so as to not exceed the battery's amp limit, you should be fine. I am sure some folks would say that the performance will not be maximized on a small regulated battery, but if it satisfies you, then that is all you need.

I have an eGo-v V3 and tried to use it to power a Smok Squid (mini-RDA) built at an eGo-friendly 1.6ohm as a tasting device. It 'worked,' but not very well, even set at higher volts or watts. Even though the switch is rated at 3-3.5A there is no way the battery is pushing the amps out of the device. After getting a few weak hits I put the RDA on my ProVari set at the same voltage and the power coming to the coil was obviously different.

You can try it but I think you will be disappointed.

I would advise a mod only for security reasons; ie. power cut off in case of any short circuits..
Otherwise it is really meaningless to use those huge monsters, esp. with a mini tank :)

The Kanger VV does automatically shut off in the case of a short too! It's a really awesome battery, seems to have a lot more security than an eGo Twist. But thanks to everyone for the help!

Now, if I were to make a dual coil sub-ohm build on an RBA/RDA, it seems like I would certainly need, to put it simply, more power. I.E. A high voltage/watt VV mod. Am I correct in my assumption? You know what they say about assuming.

And I wanted to make something clear, I'm not doing this to start with this Cloud-Chasing nonsense, and trying to make bigger clouds than anyone, like so many vapers on this forum. (No offense to them; I just don't see the point.) I just think building these atomizers and experimenting with coil building and the electrical aspect, I just think it's an awesome and fun way to spend your time.

If you can rebuild a pro-tank coil, then you should be fine with a re buildable atty. Have you seen the Igo-F? Real nice on an Ego style battery.

I think you can expect somewhat less than stellar results putting an RBA on an eGo battery, the two are simply not made for each other. You can coil it and wick it any way you want, it's just not going to be worth bothering with at the end of the day. Why not just get an el cheapo mech and the right batteries for it?

There is nothing that a bug battery will do that a small one will not except the bigger one can have more mah and it can probably handle more amps. The ego will have no problems running a 1.8 ohm top at 4 volts, just like anything else. A mech with a sony VT5 will do nothing better except last longer and after a while the ego will still be at 4 volts when the sony is under 4.

You can run an RBA on a ego style battery. I've done it before and a friend of mine actually vapes his genny in a Vision Spinner exclusively.

The key is just build it to the specs of the battery. When I slapped my Kayfun on my twist, I built it to 2.2 ohms. It vaped as well as a Protank with a 2.2 ohm coil. That's the beauty of rebuilding. You can customize your build to match your gear.
