First I'll say that Clapton is not a type of wire. It is a style of wire that is a higher gauge wire wrapped around a lower gauge wire core (somebody correct that definition if you have a better one). Clapton coils can be made from any metal type.

As for the metal type, that depends on your vaping style. Kanthal wire can only be used in wattage mode. Wires like nickel, Titanium and stainless steel can be used with temp control. There are different types of stainless steel, but I don't do temp control so I don't know much more than that.

And as for the number of wraps, that's depends on what resistance you're going for. Steam-engine.org has a handy coil calculator to help you determine exactly how many wraps you need based on the wire you choose, the resistance you want and whether not it's a single or multi coil build.

I'm a man, and I can change, if I have to, I guess.

^^ can't really say anything else. All correct.

The only thing I'll add is that if you run low guage wire,
Claptons or other exotic builds, they will have larger amounts of metal compared to higher guage wire or simple coils.
Your battery life won't be as good as you'll need higher wattage to make them perform.

You could buy premades but that will rack up my friend.
Your best off learning how to do it.
It's surprisingly easy. I'd recommend getting a tank which can support both premade coils and coils that you have built.
Watch a vid or two on YouTube, it's really easy.
I personally like really simple 6 wraps of kanthal around 2.5mm bit, aiming for 1.2 ohms.
If, I wanted to try fancy builds then perhaps I would buy some but I wouldn't get into a habit of just buying.

Your 2nd question, I'm afraid I can't help because I only built dual coils and at 60,70,80 watts it seriously drinks battery charge and eliquid.

My builds are all 24g kanthal, dual coil, 7 wraps each @ .3 ohms (roughly, usually more like .28). Running at 30W, I would probably go through one 5ml tank a day if I stayed with that tank all day. And I do tend to chain vape quite a bit. Hope that gives you a good reference.

As for battery usage, I can usually get almost a full day from a single 18650, two days from a dual 18650 mod and maybe three days from my RX200S (haven't fully tested this yet). But that will all depend on the cell you use and what wattage you run it at.

Cool thanks:)

Can I just buy a bunch of pre-twisted kanthal wire coils instead of buying a big roll and having to make myself?

Also how much does dual coils drain battery and use up juice compared to single coils?

Sure... You can buy Pre-Coiled Coils. Nothing wrong with that. But depending on where you buy them, the Costs can be from Dirt Cheap for Single Wire Coils, to "Wow, that's kinda Pricey" for Exotic Coils.

Doing your Own Coils isn't really hard. Just need something like a Blue Screwdriver or a Clean Nail to wrap the Wire around. Or if you get something like this...

it makes it a Snap.

As for Dual verses Single, many use the "Twice as Fast/Much" rule of thumb for Battery Life/e-Liquid use rule of thumb. But I'm not a Dual Coil Vaper. So I can't really say.

How important is the type of wire when building an RBA? I want to get the TFV8 RBA for my Smok AL85 - does it matter if its Kanthal or Clapton wire? And how many wraps is necessary?
Welcome and glad you joined. "How important" Only to the point where it detracts from the vaping experience from you. If you think a customized material/wire shape makes a difference to you, it will.

On a regulated device like the one you have, the resistance of the coil/s is not really important. What is important is that the mass and surface area of the coils/s is appropriate for the wattage that you are using. If you post what wattage you usually use I can suggest a build for you.
If you are going to use a rebuildable atomizer, then go the whole hog and actually build the coils. It's easy with practice and gives you control of your vape.
